《The Boy With Rabies》Coma

Lisa screamed, Matt cried out, and Dr.Scott called for the defibrillator. Lisa and Matt were escorted to the waiting room.

"Shit, shit," Dr.Scott cursed. He didn't want this boy to die. Theo was a child. He couldn't die now. Dr.Scott and the nurses laid the bed down flat and ripped open his hospital shirt. Dr.Scott began chest compressions. Once the first set of compressions were done, the defibrillator was placed on the boy's chest.

"Clear!" The doctor shouted and shocked the boy, his chest convulsing in the air before going still again.

The monitor had not changed and so Dr. Scott did compressions again. This continued for almost thirty minutes with no change.

"Stop CPR." The doctor said sadly. "Time of death, 6:31 P-" *beep beep beep*

Dr.Scott grabbed his stethoscope while a nurse checked the pulse on the boy's wrist. When both confirmed Theo had a pulse, everyone let out a sigh of relief. However, the boy wheezing confirmed that he was struggling to breathe on his own.

"Tube please," Dr.Scott requested. Nurses helped the doctor place the tube down Theo's throat, and a few minutes later, the wheezing stopped. Dr.Scott ran a few tests before confirming that the boy had fallen into a coma.

"Fetch his parents please," he said to a nurse. The nurse obeyed and not a minute later, Theo's parents ran in and stopped at the sight of their son.

"Is he okay?" Matt asked the doctor.

"He's stable for now," Dr.Scott began. "but he's fallen into a coma, and the best thing we can do right now is to make him comfortable and keep giving him medicine and pray he gets through this part of the disease."

Both parents nodded, and Dr.Scott walked out. Lisa and Matt grabbed the usual two pairs of protective gloves and put them on. Lisa was the first to grab her son's hand. She yearned to kiss it but doing so would put her in danger of catching the deadly virus. With her other hand, Lisa reached over and gently moved Theo's bangs out of his face.

"We need to get you a haircut," she said to him. "I won't be able to see my baby's beautiful brown eyes with all this hair." She and Matt softly chuckled. Lisa looked at her son's chest. It gave her comfort watching it move slowly up and down. That way she knew he wasn't dead aside from the beeping of the heart monitor.

"We love you, baby," Lisa said before laying Theo's hand back down. Matt ruffled his son's hair.

"Let's go get him a few things." He said. Lisa nodded, and both walked out.
