《Emperor Who Rules Over The Swords》Chapter 08— Taboo Land

Leafs falling onto the ground, hairs of trees dancing along with the gust of winds.
Unlike last time, they weren't holding each other's hand because it now felt uncomfortable.
Not only did he became close with the women he detests the most, but he also held a woman's hand. That one was enough to set ablaze the heart he had, in resentment.
As the bird, chirps into the sky, the sun started rising it's head high, full of confidence. It was already morning…
They spent walking a few hours, that before they knew it, the sun has already risen.
They've been moving forward from where the goblin witch first vanished. Although they've been walking for a few hours, they couldn't still find a trace of it left nor where it was now.
At most, they felt like giving up. After all, they could just wait for it to reappear in the town again. The reason they didn't turn back is, Cayle won't be able to endure the inhumane deaths of the civilians in the town.
After all, they were much safer in the town rather than the forest. In the town, there was a vast spacious, so if a fight occurred, they'll be able to move freely. However, in the forest, all their movements were restricted. Not only that, but the goblin witch also had the upper hand since it's his home. If they're to be captured by a trap again, they'll surely die this time.
As their feet's continued dragging them forward, Cait whispered to Cayle as she stopped him on his track…
"There's a goblin nest ahead… Careful!"
From afar, there was a watchtower, inside was a goblin surveilling the area. It seemed like it's the hometown of the goblin witch. This means the goblin was hidden inside.
Slowly without letting the surveilling goblin spotted them, they sneak in, inside the nest.
On the gate which made of wood, two goblins were guarding the gate. Each one was armed, one has a pair of swords and shield in his hand, while the other was a spear. Their mouth was full of drool, it seemed like they've been starving for so long.
Why couldn't they just eat vegetables and fruits, why they even feast on the meats humans had when there are animals they could hunt. Honestly, even Cayle thought the food cycles of goblins was too cruel, even though there's that animal's meat that was much tastier, they chose to fest on humans instead.

If he was given a choice in a deserted place where he will be given an option of human meat or dirt, surely he'll choose dirt. Eating like a human's heat would make him inhumane.
After gesturing to stay quiet while moving, Cait moved into the bushes, approaching the nearby guards. Cayle followed her, from his sight, her figure seemed beautiful. If only he doesn't have resentment towards all the women, he would have fallen in love with her. Either way, women wouldn't love him even if he wanted to because of his looks.
Soon, the distance between them and two guarding goblins narrowed. Cayle thought they were going to charge forward, but to his surprised, Cait continued going forward, until they reach the dead end. When he calculated the distance between the guards and them, it was only a few meters…
While staring cautiously at the goblins guarding the gate, Cayle suddenly felt a hot temptation in his side. When he shifted his gaze upon Cait, her hand was brimming ablaze, the high-tier flame magic was dancing in her palm.
Cait threw it to the goblins nearby guarding the gate, and soon both of them burned ablaze, their bodies inside and out, was scorching into a temperature close to a blacksmith used when creating a sword.
The goblins cried out, continued groaning towards the clear blue sky, when they stopped screaming, their life has finally ended.
The other goblins were alarmed and went out of the village. When they saw two of their kin was burnt to death, their expression turned nasty. They soon started surveilling the area. Even the one on the watchtower was looking at everywhere, close or far, he was full of caution.
When they confirmed that there's no one around, the other's surveilling the land returned inside and decided to leave everything to the one in the watchtower.
So even goblins get angry when one of their kin died… Cayle pitied the food cycle of goblins. From his perspective, they seemed to be only doing things like eating the meat of other races due to the food cycle which is set before they're even born to the world.
Cait monitored the movements of the one in the watchtower, when she realized it let its guard down, they both sneaked inside. When Cayle passed through the gate, he was safe and sound. No one even noticed him as well. Cayle clutched his grip into his sword, as he took it out. Cait was also about to enter, but when she stepped a single step inside, an invisible force suddenly threw her outside, and she fell onto the ground with her expression as nasty as hell. Fortunately, the one in the watchtower seemed to didn't notice her.

Cayle on the other hand, was extremely nervous to the point cold sweat was pouring down his forehead… "W, what happened?"
Seeing the frightened looks on his face, Cait sighed while staring right at his face, "It seemed like they got a Taboo Statue in their hands….," her eyes in contrary were awfully filled with despair.
"Taboo Statue?" Cayle never heard of such a thing before. The "Taboo" word on it piqued his interest. It seemed like a cursed item, he guessed.
"Taboo Statue is a statue built from sacrificing hundreds of souls. Only one's with special physique could not be affected by it…" At the middle of her speech, she paused for a moment before continuing, "Unfortunately it seemed like I won't be able to accompany you any further unless the statue is destroyed."
Cayle felt his body aged from despair, after thinking for a bit, he brought out his thoughts, "Then, will the invisible force stop once I destroyed the statue?"
Cait nodded her head, and warned him, "Don't think about doing it. Hundreds of goblins are probably guarding it…"
Cayle pupils widened, he swallowed down his saliva before asking her something, "Is it possible that the goblin witch might interfere if I engage in a fight, on the other goblins?"
"Probably not," Cait said without hesitation. As if Cayle will rush forward in an army of goblins anyway, so she didn't hesitate on speaking out.
Hearing that, Cayle turned his back towards her before heaving a sigh of relieved, and asked her another question while hanging his sword into his broad shoulder, "Can you defeat the goblin witch?"
"If his arm hasn't recovered yet." Cait felt unease at his question, but still gave him an answer…
Cayle glanced back before smiling, afterward looking forward again, "Is that so…," dragging his legs forward, Cait was left stoned. Cayle was like a knight and shining armor, no, more like he was acting like one. Cayle leaves her some words before fading away in distance.
"I'll leave the rest to you."
His voice has sadness remained on it, yet seemed soothing…
Cait blushed before turning away... Unfortunately, Cayle didn't saw such a cute scene, or else, he would have fallen in love even though he was a man who yearned of slaying every woman and slitting their throats.
***
According to what he accumulated information's from Cait, the taboo statue was something like taboo power he knew in the game.
Although the special physique remained a mystery in his mind, and why he was chosen. Cayle decided to ignore it for now.
In the games he had played in his previous life, something important that is needed to be destroyed in games was always at the center while sometimes hidden. That's why he decided to trust his instinct.
Sneaking into the corner without letting the other goblins noticed him, Cayle was surprised at how vast their numbers are. Close nor afar, they're always packed in the group.
Since charging forward is not his forte, he decided to try things first before engaging in battle.
As he was thinking about it, he suddenly recalled something. He just remembered that unlike them, he had the cheat leveling system.
Increasing the grip in his hand, Cayle whispered onto the air silently, "Information.."
Just as he expected, a chart made out of light appeared before his eyes.
Race: Human
[Cayle Mischieve]
Age: 18 (27)
Level: 1
Strength: 7
Agility: 6
Constitution: 4
Mana: 6
[Remaining time: 1:59]
Before it even vanished into thin air, Cayle ordered it to disappear.
After surveilling the area, he found a group of goblins heading his way, it seemed like they haven't noticed his presence yet.
Clenching his palm into the part of his sword, his eyes gleamed in excitement. Even though the fact of facing life and death situation was unfolded in front of him, just the thrill of slicing them up while receiving damage made him smile wryly…

The year is 2152. Rune Yahui is a nineteen-year-old failure, not having gained entrance to college or the military, with no significant prospects in life. Even worse, Rune is the poorest of the poor, hailing from the mega-slums of New Southern Chicago, the lowest pit of America. In a desperate last-ditch attempt to gain a future more lustrous than toiling the rest of his days away in abhorrent conditions in one of the near sweat-shop level factories that dot the megapolis, Rune signs up for the Virtual Citizen program, a program to cull the excessive world population by transferring just their brains into a video game. In a stroke of rare luck, Rune is admitted into the program and happily submits himself to the surgery and digitization process. Unfortunately for him, he wakes up several hundred years later than he expected... or does he? **Author's Note** This isn't a type of story typical to RRL. You may have noticed LitRPG in the tags, but it's a relatively minor element in the story until later. You may also notice Slice of Life is in the tags. This story is going to be slow and there won't be any power tripping until way later if at all. The focus will be on character development. That doesn't mean I won't still have action/excitement, however. I encourage you to give the story a try. Maybe it will be your thing, maybe it won't. Thanks for even taking the time to read this, and if you do give my fiction a try, I hope you enjoy it. If you don't, well, I hope you find something that you do enjoy. Happy reading!

Explore the summer before her senior year that triggered the domino effect of Elizabeth's emotional and psychological breakdown that lead her to take her own life. I wrote this because I wanted to explore Elizabeth's character and show how the main characters have changed since this event. I decided to release this first because Petrichor is undergoing a full rewrite. In the meantime, I'm writing a side story called Mourning Glory that takes place between the second and third act of Petrichor. Development is going rather fast so I suggest to to read that if you like this story
