《Son of the Eternal Eclipse》Chapter 33: Unconscious

Tyra stood up. She remembered what happened vividly at first, but her memories turned vague the more she was in that state. Everything looked like a blur, but she seemed fine afterwards. Then, there was the man Tyra saved. She remembered saving Syren and one other. She had assumed that Syren was the one fighting, but honestly, she wouldn't have been able to tell the difference.
The akkedi who laid on the muddy road unconscious slowly awoke thinking that he was already dead.
Tyra and Syren checked up on him. Tyra remembered saving him, but didn't really know who she saved. It soon became clear, though. They didn't recognize him at first considering the two of them couldn't tell many lizards apart. It was Amare - still alive, but with a heavy headache.
Amare slowly stood up as Syren tried to help him. He didn't exactly know what was going on, but since he knew that he was alive, he thought it was all a dream. He hoped that it was. Unfortunately for him, that was far from the truth. He looked around and saw the swampland. The alligators swam around nearby, but didn't approach. Mosquitoes began taking their meal off of Amare's tail, but he didn't notice. He was pretty far from Lacernus Town, but he could see the smoke rising. That's when he realized that it was all real.
He knelt down trying to hold on to his own sanity. Everything that he tried so hard to prevent had just happened. His people were dead. His town was on fire. And he could do nothing to stop it.
"Hey, Amare. Are you alright?" Syren asked worrisome, but Amare was silent. He was still processing what had happened. Everything just went so wrong so fast. And it had gotten so much worse.

Amare began to slowly walk towards the town. Syren and Tyra stopped him in his tracks. Even as he tried to resist, he was too weak and tired to do anything about it. He wanted to go back and find others, but there was no one left for him to save in that city. If the golden-robed figures didn't kill them, the fire and smoke would have.
"You did this. You brought those monsters here. You're the reason they brought such creatures," Amare said meekly. He said that, but he didn't really put the blame on them. It was something that was much bigger than the actions of just two sympathizers, he thought.
Syren and Tyra were silent. They could have denied it, but neither of them felt like it would have mattered. Syren even did think that he had some blame as he did try to fight those knights. He wondered whether he really was responsible, but in the end, the only ones he blamed were Bellbraun and his band.
However, Tyra didn't blame Bellbraun. She knew what the life of a mercenary was. She blamed those who hired him.
Amare fell pathetically face first into the mud. There was nothing he could do. Syren tried to comfort him, but the words fell on deaf ears. To Amare, all he saw was Syren's mouth moving, but no sound. There was only a ringing noise that bounced around in his ears.
His hope and strength faltered. He just wanted to die right then and there, but then he saw something in the corner of his eyes. There were some akkedis fleeing the city. They were survivors, and he sprung up reinvigorated.
He pushed Syren away and rushed towards those running from the city. They were off the beaten path trying to avoid the main road in fear of being attacked by any other knights. They were only able to escape because Syren and Tyr distracted the golden-robed figures and Bellbraun. Otherwise, they would have been hunted down.

Amare called out to them. At first, the survivors were wary and afraid that a knight had found them, but as soon as they saw his face, their faces lit up with the sight of one of their own - and more importantly, they knew Amare and were glad of his escape.
Syren was happy that there were some who were able to flee. Tyra continued to cover herself with an old cloak, but didn't really care if an akkedi saw her like that.
The survivors welcomed Amare, but not so much Syren or Tyra. The akkedis helped Amare on his feet and continued to run away from the burning city without so much saying a word to either one of the humans. But Syren nor Tyra really cared for any kind of rewards. They were both glad that at least some of them were safe. And Tyra was joyful that she could at least save one of them.
Amare had left Syren and Tyra without saying another word. He didn't know how he got out of the city, but all he cared about was getting his people to safety. He didn't know where he would go, but all he cared about was getting his people to safety. He didn't know what he would do, but in the end, he just wanted his people to be safe. And so, Amare moved forward with the rest of his kind towards a direction where they may find some place of respite.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
