《Travels of A Young Sorcerer》Chapter 28: Search for a Healer, Part 1

The three members of FULL POTENTIAL have left Kuldro and are on their journey to other towns. Currently, they are still walking throughout the southernmost Kingdom in the continent, the Kingdom of Doradon.
Eventually, the trio reached a small cottage in the road. Upon reaching it, they saw an old man minding his garden.
“Oh, welcome travelers. My name is Krahul.”
“Hello, Mr. Krahul.”, said Morgana.
“Traveling from the south, aren’t you?”, said Krahul
“How did you know?”, asked Lance.
“Because this road leads to the north, and many sorcerers travel here. I would advise the three of you to go to the town of Halman”, said Krahul.
“You know a lot of sorcerers?”, asked Musa
“Of course. I even remember you and your brother when the two of you went to Kuldro.”, said Krahul.
“Come, eat first. You have a long road ahead of you.”, said Krahul.
Although weary at first, the three travelers went inside the cottage of the old man. They were served soup with cabbages and mushrooms. While they were eating, Krahul conversed with them.
“Do you know a man named Vul’Kish?”, asked Krahul.
“We do. Do you know him?”, said Lance.
“Yeah. He and I used to be travelling buddies until he had a family.”, said Krahul
“These mushrooms taste well, Mr. Krahul.”, said Morgana.
“I’ve personally grown them.”, said Krahul
“Oh, nice. I wish I can grow my own food.”, said Morgana
“Anyway, Vul’Kish told me that a group of sorcerers would be venturing north from Kuldro. He told me that someone named Morgana would lead this group.”, said Krahul
“Oh, I’m Morgana.”
“I never expected someone who beat Barone to be a young sorcerer.”, said Krahul
“Well, I’m going to become the best, after all.”, said Morgana.
“Hahahahahaha. I like your ambition kid. Get stronger.”, said Krahul.
“Of course, I will.”, said Morgana.
“Out of curiosity, can I see your spellbook?”, asked Krahul
“What spellbook? I don’t have one.”, said Morgana.
The three fell face first into the table. After the initial shock, Lance asked Morgana,
“You mean to tell that all this time, you are not carrying a spellbook?”
“Well, yeah. I forgot that I might actually need it.”, said Morgana.
Sighing, Lance went to his bag and got a book.
“Here, this is Ashure’s spellbook. Piedro told me that you can have this.”, said Lance.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah. You do need one after all.”, said Lance.
“Alright. I’m going to enchant this book with my spells then.”, said Morgana.
Morgana took the book and set it aside for a while. She continued to eat the soup with mushroom and cabbages. While she is eating, Krahul continued with his conversation.
“Anways, what about you two, why are you traveling with Morgana?”, asked Krahul
“This journey will make me the strongest rune wielder in the world. I relish the challenges that will come my way.”, said Musa.
“Someone needs to watch over her.”, said Lance.
After the three finished their food, Morgana went outside with Ashure’s spellbook. There, she placed every spell she knew and marked it all down. With her spellbook, the use of incantations for certain spells would not be necessary since she already has access to them. Furthermore, the book also ensures that she has time to learn new spells to her arsenal.
While Morgana is engraving her spells to the spellbook, Krahul approached Musa. He told him that,
“Oh, by way, once you reach Halman, Vul’Kish will be there, waiting for you.”

“How do you know that?”, asked Musa.
“He told me yesterday.”, said Krahul
“So, where will we find him?”, asked Musa.
“Simply go to the Cow’s Grave Tavern. Currently, he stays there.”, said Krahul.
“How will we find it?”, asked Lance.
“I know where it is. It’s one of the more famous taverns in Halman.”, said Musa.
“Alright, Musa, we’ll follow your lead.”, said Lance.
BOOM
Rushing outside, Lance saw Morgana covered in ash. Bowing her head, she apologized to Krahul.
“Don’t worry about it. At least it’s not in my garden.”, reassured Krahul.
“Are you finished with the spellbook?”, asked Lance.
“Yeah, I am.”, said Morgana.
Morgana then rushed back to the cottage and washed her face. Carrying her bag, she told her guildmates,
“Come on, let’s go. There’s no time to wait.”
“You’re very hasty, aren’t you, Morgana.”, said Musa.
“We can’t waste time.”, said the sorcerer.
“Agreed.”, said Musa
A silent Lance simply sighed,
Two guildmates who would rush things out. Sigh
“Come on Lance.”, said Morgana, reaching out her hand to the knight.
Grabbing it, Lance resigned to his situation. At the end of the day, he would guard this sorcerer and help her achieve her dream.
“Let me get my items first, Mogana.”, said Lance.
Seeing the interactions of the two, Musa simply smiled in secret. Although he left his brother with Yuuno and Yuulah, he may have gained two younger siblings.
When Lance got his items, the three set forth to the town of Halman. Along the way, they met traveler after traveler, each with a story to tell. Furthermore, some adventurer guilds are journeying to the north, while some are journeying to the south.
Upon reaching the town of Halman, Morgana noticed a particular sentence just below the town sign. It says, “Crossroads of Southern Doradon”.
“This is a town of crossroads since this town leads to many provinces. With some similarities to Kuldro, a gateway town, this is full of merchants and traveling sorcerers, but unlike Kuldro, there are fewer residents in this town.”, said Musa
“Ohhhhh. So that is why it is called a town of crossroads.”, said Morgana.
The three continued on their walk across the town. Due to the number of merchants, Lance kept a close eye on Morgana to ensure that she won’t spend their resources unnecessarily. From time to time, he gripped her arm to prevent her from sampling a ‘free’ item.
Amused at this, Musa laughed inside. Chuckling at the interaction of an impulsive sorcerer and a cautious knight. Looking around, he finally saw the sign of a Cow Skull.
“Morgana, Lance. We’re here.”, said Musa.
As they went inside, Musa advised the two to stay close to him, since taverns like Cow’s Grave consists of many types of persons, from a traveling adventurer, a thief, a rogue sorcerer and many more.
Looking at the tables, Musa eventually set his gaze on a familiar face. It was Vul’Kish. The latter then motioned the trio to sit with him. While they were walking towards him, Lance realized something.
“Wait, Musa, how did you know Vul’Kish anyway?”, asked Lance.
“Oh, he used to live in Kuldro with his family. They were one of the first people to accept me when Saya and I used to date. Anyways, I have no idea on what his current activities are.”, whispered Musa.
When the tree members of FULL POTENTIAL sat with Vul’Kish, he handed Musa a mug of beer. After drinking, Vul’Kish spoke to them,

“You’re journeying to gather more guildmembers aren’t you… uhhhh…. Morgana?”, asked Vul’Kish.
“Yes. How did you know my name anyway?”, said Morgana.
“Well, I was listening with your conversations with Lance. I am a thief after all.”, said Vul’Kish.
“Oh yeah. I remember that.”, said Morgana.
“So, do you have a healer right now?”, asked Vul’Kish
“No, so far, I can’t find a healer who isn’t a part of a guild. Oh, wait, why didn’t I invite Yuuno, how stupid of me.”, said Morgana.
“I don’t think he will go. He doesn’t like going on a long adventure.”, said Musa.
“Healers are one of the hardest to find and recruit to a guild. Usually, most guilds train the healers themselves, or recruit them immediately after graduating from an academy.”, said Lance.
“True. The value of a healer cannot be overstated. Without a healer, a guild can fall quickly.”, said Vul’Kish
“Agreed.”, said Musa.
“Where do you propose we can find a healer then?”, asked Morgana.
“The typical advice would be to simply look in this town and find sorcerers or adventures who would wish to join guilds, but as Lance stated, they are notoriously hard to recruit, especially for a new guild like yours. Hmmmm…. I know, there is a village inside the large trees of Amarino forests. You might need a guide to help you get there though. Although pathways are constructed there, some of them lead to nowhere, and it is easy to get lost at the Amarino forests.”, said Vul’Kish.
“How do we get one?”, asked Morgana.
“Hmmmm… I know someone, but let’s leave it for later. For now, I have something to talk about, specifically to you, Musa.”, said Vul’Kish
Upon hearing that, Musa listened intently. While they were conversing, Morgana and Lance went to the bar to order some food and drinks.
“The bandit attack is not a simple invasion by a power-hungry man. It is orchestrated by one of the nobles in the Kingdom. Sadly, I have yet to pinpoint on who that is. While I’m pretty sure that Barone instigated the attack himself, there is provocation on the part of the noble.” said Vul’Kish.
“So, are they going to attack again?”, asked Musa.
“Probably not since the attack was Barone’s idea. No, what the noble wants appears to be power and influence. An attack would not let them be popular amongst the populace.”, said Vul’Kish.
“How did you come to this conclusion?”, asked Musa.
“Well, as you know, Barone used to be a hunter for the Alliance. What I found out is that before he became a bandit once again, he worked under the nobles as their hired gun. It was seeing their decadence and corruption that Barone became a bandit and started to target them.”, said Vul’Kish
“So that’s why he and his men were after the treasures of Saya’s family.”, said Musa.
“Yes. He felt entitled to those riches. However, during his raids, some noble houses remained unchecked. Barone was told that there were no riches in those houses, but I believe he was lied to. It appears that there is a mole in Barone’s inner circle, but I cannot pinpoint on who that is.”, said Vul’Kish
“That’s a lot of new information out there.”, said Musa.
“For now, that is the only thing that I can give you. Musa, you need to keep in mind what I have just said to you.”, said Vul’Kish
“I will.”, said Musa.
While Musa and Vul’Kish were talking, Morgana and Lance were arguing about which food tastes better and if Morgana really is weak towards beer.
“Lads, as for the guide to the forest, follow me.”, said Vul’Kish.
After paying the tab for their food and drinks, Vul’Kish led them away from the tavern. While they were walking, Morgana saw a group of thugs surrounding an old man. Without hesitation, she charged towards the thugs and knocked them all one by one.
With all the thugs taken down, the old man stood up and thanked Morgana. Dusting himself off, he walked out of sight. Running towards her were Lance, Vul’Kish and Musa.
“Thought we lost you.”, said Musa.
“Let me guess, you saw someone getting attacked, and you decided to help them.”, said Lance.
Looking at the scene, Lance’s hunch was proven correct. Seeing the bunch of thugs getting knocked out, Lance simply nodded. His guild leader maybe impulsive, but at the end of the day, she does things for a right cause.
Suddenly a large shadow towered over them. With his loud voice, he asked,
“Who did this?”
“I did”, said Morgana defiantly
Looks like were going to have a fight, thought Lance.
The large man then bowed his head at them. Apologizing for the ruckus caused by the thugs.
“Please forgive my men. They always do this. Immature brats”, said the large man.
The large man then glared at his subordinates, who cowered in front of him, and retreated somewhere in town. After this, the large man spotted someone familiar.
It was Vul’Kish.
“Wait, so you’re here Vul’Kish. Long time no see.”, said the large man.
“Hahahahaha. Likewise, Ulgar. How’s your dad?”, said Vul’Kish
“Lifting weights as usual. How are you?”, asked Ulgar.
“Investigating the attacks at the south.”, said Vul’Kish.
“Of course, you are. Oh, and stop placing your hand in my pockets. There’s nothing there.”, said Ulgar.
“Can’t help it. How about you, are you still a gang leader on these parts?”, said Vul’Kish
“I need to lead them, otherwise my dad would take charge again, and I think no one wants that to happen.”, said Ulgar
The two of them then laughed at their respective scenarios. After a while, Vul’Kish decided to introduce Ulgar to the group.
“Folks, this is the guy I was talking about. He is a guide to the village of Caltron.”, said Vul’Kish.
“So, you know your way around the forest?”, asked Lance.
“Yeah, I do. The roads themselves are deceptive, but there are certain signs that a guide will notice.”, said Ulgar.
“Do you have a price?”, asked Musa.
“50,000 GolCreds for one trip.”, said Ulgar.
Pulling out his bag, Musa gave 50,000 GolCreds to Ulgar who accepted the payment.
“Before we go, I need to go back to my headquarters to teach some lesson to my men. We’ll meet tomorrow at Cow’s Grave Tavern.”, said Ulgar
Seeing that they have a guide, Vul’Kish decided to bid them farewell. But before he left, Morgana gave him a small pouch. Opening it, he saw dices made of wood. Realizing this, he told the sorcerer,
“How did you know that I wanted these?”, asked a curious Vul’Kish.
“I saw a pair of dice dangling in your belt and if I’m not mistaken, it reminded you of something”, said Morgana.
“You’re not wrong there kid.”, said Vul’Kish
“Thank you for helping us, Mr. Vul’Kish.”, said Morgana.
“I reckon, I might need your help in the future.”, said Vul’Kish.
And with that conversation, Vul’Kish bid the trio farewell and went on his way.
Knowing that they must stay for a day, the three of them went to the Wizarding Outpost. Upon showing their guild license, the three stayed for a while. Musa, wanting to rest decided to take a sleep. While Musa was sleeping, Morgana and Lance simply wandered around the town at night, with the former wanting to enjoy the food in the town while the latter went to the armory to see if they are selling new items.
After buying equipment or in Morgana’s case, eating street food, the duo went back to the Outpost to rest throughout the night.
On the next day, the three met with Ulgar on Cow’s Grave Tavern. There, they set out on their journey towards the forests of Amarino in search for a healer for their party.

However, there's also some decent technology in this world. Gaining power has a system and nothing comes out of nowhere. Essentially, the setting and background is high fantasy but the focus will be whatever the MC sees, so expect more of a gritty realistic low fantasy most of the time. The MC is not OP and uses his wits and strategy to survive, and maybe even thrive. “Hello! My humble audience! I, the Bard of the North, am going to tell you a tale. Nothing new, nothing old. A story of a hero, some may say, others a poor boy who was hated by the world.” The storyteller paused as he waited, right timing was everything when telling a story. Pacing… Too slow and the audience became bored then left without tossing even the smallest of coins. If he spoke too fast and rushed the story. It would leave the audience confused and having no reason to be impressed. So like any good storyteller, the Bard has to do a balancing act of sorts. Not too slow, not too fast. Just perfectly in the middle. “In a shattered country in the south, a novice princeling has the ambition to mend a torn tapestry that is his birthplace. Struggling to fend off those who would usurp the throne in an unending civil war spanning centuries. A mercenary that left only death in his wake, unable to stave off the monotony and peace of life. He looks back at the path laden with bodies, wondering if it was all worth it. Wandering souls summoned by a madman, travel away from a wasteland in a foreign land, the first alone, the others as companions. A deity, ancient in her years, waiting to be freed from a duty she no longer enjoys. For all these people and their stories, none are the hero of this tale. No, the hero is not grand, not wise, not ready.. he was punished for nothing of his doing, who was an outcast that was unloved by many, including his father.” This was always the big reveal novices use to jump off into their story. He did not start here, instead, like any good fishermen, he set the bait and waited until the fish bit before pulling. As he saw the audience's eyes focus, he then started the backstory. The harness, that stopped the listeners from having metaphorical whiplash. The foreshadowing. “But that is not where the story starts. No, not even the hero's birth. Where the story begins, is the boredom of the deity, a deity many know of. She who hunts for the impossible, the guide for those who have lost the path, the Huntress of Mallon--” A small pause, a short breath. “--All old names for a single powerful being that has roamed the grounds of this continent longer than any line of kings or queens, lords or ladies. A being of worship for many an individual…” One last breath. And he began singing the first verse.
