《The Mysteries of the Dungeon》Chapter 1: Self-loathing

The boy sighs, out of boredom. "There is nothing really new to read."
In a darkly lit room, where the only source of light is by the glare of the computer screen.
A youth with unkempt murky hair that has not been cut for years, sat motionlessly by the computer. His deadpan eyes glued to the screen, with a look of disinterest, as he once again fought with his mortal enemy, boredom.
Click. Click. Click.
The sound of the keyboard mouse moving and clicking.
With steadfast and imperceivable movements, he maneuvered the mouse cursor scrolling down the web page, passing by numerous covers as he looked for anything exciting (web novel) to read.
For months now, the youth has not stepped a foot outside his room, having lived inside his single bedroom all this time. With only nothing but the monitor screen at his side, his only friend and constant companion.
Time would fly by, he recalled, as the joyful invention lovingly called the ‘internet’ would keep his interest peaked. With its seemingly endless options and the materials, it has to offer.
He would spend countless hours surfing the internet; being online, foregoing sleep, and skipping meals as his sole attention was sucked into the web of networks that is the internet, and all its glory.
But only now, only recently did his joy and excitement have soon reached a bottleneck.
About a week ago or so, he felt the encroaching sense of boredom approaching closer and closer into his newly developed fragile psyche.
Previous sites that once brought him joy now lacked the familiar sense of enjoyment. The addictive games that which had once made his hands crackle and tired, strained and overworked from the constant playing.
And the people & communities that he had once thought of as interesting or exciting now felt more like an obligation he would unwillingly follow.
In one short sentence, the youth is extremely bored.
"I'm bored!" The youth cried out in disappointment.
He yawns and stretches his arms over his head, whilst leaning back against his pc gaming chair.
He twisted his neck and turned his head to the side to face the digital alarm clock adjacent from him. The neon green numbers shown on the digital alarm clock indicated that it was now 3:34 AM.
'3:34 AM... So it's already morning.' The boy ponders and came to a realization that he spends the whole night surfing the internet.
Dark rings are starting to form around the youth's eyes.
The youth seemed to be weak and thin, but overall had a fair ordinary complexion. He is healthy, but slightly a bit underweight.
He wore a pair of black pyjamas that had apparently been washed so many times that it has begun to lose its natural colours. Something about the way he was dressed, plus the sad unresponsive look in his eyes, made him seems all the more apathetic.

This twenty years old NEET's name was Allen Walter.
❕ System Notification [Are you bored with your life? Do you seek something sort of Entertainment?]
A popup ad then suddenly appeared on the computer screen, it covers a third of the computer screen. And there is no exit or close down [x] button in sight.
The first thought that crossed Allen Walter's mind was 'a popup ad'.
"There is no close down button. So how am I supposed to get rid of the popup ad?" Allen Walter voiced his sense of dissatisfaction, as he couldn't close down the popup ad that appeared on his computer.
He suddenly thought of another alternative option to get rid of the popup ad. "Should I just press F5 and refresh the page? It should get rid of the popup ad."

Accept Refuse
Before Allen Walter was about to press the 'F5' button on his keyboard to refresh the web page, the popup ad then changes, shifting to the next phase.
The content written on the popup ad has certainly caught Allen Walter's interest.
"Another world! Do you mean Isekai?" He said it so visibly with a look of interest.
Allen Walter is a avid fan of the isekai genre. He read so many novels and manga where the main protagonist dies and is thereby sent to live their life in another world, or they were forcefully summoned to another world through some sort of magic to be a hero/brave to save the people from the other world from the evil tyrannical reign of the demon king/devil god.
"Hmmm... Is this some sort of advertisement for a isekai novel or an anime? Possibly a new JRPG game." Allen Walter said, "It's a pretty odd way to advertise it."
He grew more interested, engaged in the subject matter.
In the back of Allen Walter's mind, he thought to himself, 'If maybe, I press the accept button on this popup ad. I could possibly be transferred to another world, like all the isekai novels I've read.'
He grew some what delusional on wanting to go to another world, but the more functional side of his brain didn't accept that.
"Who am I kidding? Being isekai to another world, that sort of thing only exist in the world of fiction. It does not happen in real life." Allen Walter kid himself.
"Hahaha!" He laughs at himself.
The sound of his laughter filled every nook and cranny in the room. It broke the natural silence of the night.

However, when he quieten down, his laughter soon subsided and Allen Walter then felt a bit depressed. His old 'wounds' began to reemerged.
"Hahaha..." Allen Walter started to get teary eyes. "Who am I kidding? Being transferred to another world is alot better than living life like this."
"I am already twenty years old and I've done nothing with my life. I have no job, no money, and certainly no home to call my own." He said with a sense of frustration, his tone grew the more angrier as he speaks.
"I've only been leeching off the care and comforts of my parents. Whilst all of my friends that I've known since high school have already moved on, they all made a name for themselves."
"Some got jobs, others are working their ass off to graduate university in order to earn a diploma." Allen Walter's self esteem began to lower even more, the more he began to think lowly of himself.
"I've heard that Anik even got himself into medical school. He is spending several years in medical school to learn about medicine and studying on how to become a doctor." After venting out all of his sense of frustration, he grew more tired.
Allen Walter heaved a long sighs. He could hear his heart palpitating, beating rather rapidly.
Even though, he could not see his own face at the moment. Allen Walter instinctively knew that his face and cheek has sadly redden, not out of anger, but out of embarrassment of himself.
His ears were bright red in embarrassment, as they were strongly emitting heat. He could feel his body temperature rising.
It took some time for Allen Walter to cool his head down.
His sense of self loathing has yet to dissappear, but it has some what subsided, so he could now think clearly by himself.
"Now that was a roller coaster of emotions... was I always this emotional, or was it spending time all alone by myself that caused me to become like this." Allen Walter said so to himself, feeling slightly depressed.
He slowly raised his head, and his eye are immediately focused on the computer monitor.
'That popup ad is still there.' He thought to himself.
Allen Walter thought to himself, 'It won't hurt to try... If it turns out to be a computer virus, then the anti-virus software that is downloaded on my computer will detect it and detain it in the virus box. Thereby, preventing the computer virus from causing further harm to the computer system.'
'Hmmm...' Allen Walter thought to himself as he moved the mouse cursor over towards the accept button.
Click!
Allen Walter lightly presses on the 'left click' buttom of the computer mouse.
The computer mouse then made a slight clicking noise which then sends the received input data into the computer system. A second later the hovering mouse cursor then click on the accept button of the popup ad.
❕ System Notification [You have accepted the offer granted by the World System.] ❕ System Notification [Congratulations, Allen Walter! Welcome to Primus Terrarum (prime world)!] ❕ System Notification You have fulfilled the necessary conditions. You are hereby reborn as a Dungeon Lord.
The moment that the mouse cursor finished clicking on the accept button. The onced plain blue rectangular shaped notification screen, which was the popup ad, suddenly underwent an unbelievable transformation.
The simple blue rectangular shaped notification screen then pops out from his computer screen, fully materialised in the 3D realistic world.
It has transformed from a simple rectangular shaped popup ad into a futuristic sci-fi hologram. Those that are commonly seen MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role playing game) type of video games.
"Huh."
Allen Walter didn't have much time, just long enough to utter a single word, before he was assaulted by an intensely bright light.
The intensely bright light then assaults him, it caused him some intense pain. It felt like being struct by a bolt of lightning, the light acting like electricity as it enters his body and coursing through his veins.
The painful feeling is akin to thousands of tiny needles stabing into your skin, muscles, and flesh. Although the painful feeling is only momentarily; lasting a few milliseconds. In truth, it felt like minutes to Allen Walter.
The large amount of phantom pain inflicted on him was enough to caused his brain to blackout.
His vision blanked out to white, as his own physical body is disintegrated into nothing by the intensely bright light. It became nothing more than measly white particles of light.
It happened within seconds, as the intensely bright light soon subsided, returning everything back to what it onced was.
Except the seemingly disappearance of the individual twenty years old NEET that is name Allen Walter. He seems to have vanished out of thin air, leaving nothing else behind.
The darkened bedroom soon return to the peaceful quiet atmosphere it once had, without the presence of the person that is name Allen Walter. Where the only source of light within this room came from his dimly lit computer screen monitor.
