《My Life As A Magician》Chapter 5

Once we left Ginsberg, I knew for sure that we would never be settled. We never stayed in one place for long. I would never be able to call anywhere home.
By now I was no longer a little girl in pigtails. I was free to be on my own, to work on my own, to cease my apprenticeship. But what would I do, and how would I do it? I had done nothing but run from the past. I had done nothing but help Mr Bishop start over. I felt like I had done nothing to hone my craft. What was my apprenticeship for? What was the point? I had no friends to turn to. Not a single acquaintance to count on. I needed to get out of this cycle but it was all I had been trained to do.
We moved from Ginsberg to Rousell, where Mr Bishop helped the town councillor making the town’s waste and pollution disappear. When the town councillor asked if Mr Bishop could help with personal matters, Mr Bishop did not even ask me to check his intentions. Instead we left at night, walked for four days, and moved to Charlottetown.
In Charlottetown Mr Bishop thought he recognised the baker. I did my due diligence, but despite none of us knowing each other, Mr Bishop took us for another four day walk to St Francis on the River.
We stayed and worked in St Francis on the River for a few days, but after helping the local doctor banish some incurable physical illnesses, Mr Bishop had a feeling the doctor was more after accolades than simply helping the community. I didn’t see anything to that affect when doing my due diligence, but we set off anyway, for a record of eleven days to start anew.

I could not keep doing this. My magic was being brushed aside. I was no longer apprenticing, but hanging on in hope of something, perhaps in hope of change. Change was happening alright, but it was not the change I was looking for.
I knew I was smarter than this. I knew I was destined for more. How did I get myself stuck in this cycle? And how could I get out?

How to Raise Your Dungeon
A dungeon core awakens for the first time. It knows nothing, it has nothing, but it can hear something. Voices, whispering, talking, and sharing. For now, they are distant. But it believes, if it proves itself, they may provide it with wisdom and direction. And so its slow but steady growth begins. Polls will come when the dungeon specifically wants to choose between a number of options, and believes it will receive an answer. However, it will "hear" any comments made on the most recent chapter, and these will shape its behaviour. It trusts you implicitely. This story is an exercise in stretching my creative muscles, so with each decision made, the options and opportunities open to the dungeon will change- some closing off forever. The dungeon will face threats periodically, and its fate in these encounters will be heavily influenced by your advice, though it will of course do its absolute best even without advice. It hardly wants to die. Heavily inspired by There Is No Epic Loot Here, Only Puns, though my approach to the concept is somewhat different from that work.
