《Criminal Lord》Volume 2: Chapter 6. The Lords' Summons. A War Against The Dragons?

“So adventurers have 7 ranks in total?” Terry asked as he sat in the nearly-empty guild hall. Tables and chairs of polished wood were scattered about and a counter stood at the back beside a large board.
“Yes, there’s wood, copper, silver, palladium, gold, platinum, rhodium, and diamond, the list goes from weakest to strongest. Wood plates are given to any who ask, copper is for those who show effort, and silver and above are for serious adventurers,” explained the guildmaster as she sat across the table.
“Hmm, so I’m only a third-rank. I guess that I would serve as rhodium at my full power and diamond is for genuine monsters, right?” Terry asked as he took a sip of the orange juice in the glass before him.
“Heh, Steadhart had been stuck at platinum for quite a while and wasn’t close to promoting. You, while able to beat Steadhart, are likely platinum as well,” replied the guildmaster.
“How so?” Terry asked as his eyes squinted in surprise. He was still in Steadhart’s form but saw no need to continue wearing the mask as he had already shown his face.
“Steadhart was incredibly strong and even though you beat him, you aren’t even close to the power that the rhodium rank has. And diamond, that strength is so great that even The Ten fear them,” continued the guildmaster.
Hey Din, who are The Ten? Terry asked.
Oh? Why don’t you ask her? Din responded slyly.
You know very well that it’s common knowledge. If I asked, she would get suspicious, Terry explained.
Yeah, I know. The Ten are the ten strongest beings of this world. Their powers can each build or level a country with ease. But, according to a law between them all, they may not engage in war between each other or interfere directly in major affairs, Din explained.
Hmm, but who are The Ten? I’d like some kind of perspective. Like, in comparison to the tarantula or something, Terry suggested.
The tarantula? He’s no more than a literal insect to any member of The Ten. And of the few, I could say you would understand that Gespendist, Greed, Salorg, and Prometheus are powerful members of The Ten. Each is a monarch of a respective category, continued Din.
Sh*t, I have to fight a guy even stronger than the Tarantula? Well, I guess I understand when considering that Salorg is supposedly the strongest guy on this continent. Still, what do you know about the members of The Ten? Terry questioned.
Gespendist rules vampires, Laegjarn controls flame spirits, Greed has plenty of money, Salorg has military might, Lu is the master of darkness, Chael is the ruler of light, Temion is the spider queen, Cynthia rules dragons, Noal O. Ginz is the undead lord, and Leane is the beast queen, Din explained.
Hmm, so now I know who The Ten are. I guess I don’t need to worry about most of them for now but still, this ‘Laegjarn’ controls flame spirits but the name sounds like a girl. Was she the boss of the volcano? Terry asked.
Oh you noticed? Sadly, the boss of the volcano was Prometheus who served under Laegjarn for a while. You’re lucky that Prometheus wasn’t a member of The Ten which was why Greed was able to scare him. Either way, The Ten are the known strongest but killing a member isn’t impossible, Din replied.
Sure, whatever. I guess that I’m not totally f*cked considering how Gree owes me a favor, even if he hasn’t done anything to help me. Still, I guess that I have a long way to go before I can become the strongest.

“One thing I’d like to say though,” Terry said.
“What would that be?” asked the guildmaster.
Terry glanced around the room for a moment.
“Do we have any chance now that I’ve killed nearly all of the adventurers?” Terry asked.
“Well, considering that we’re only a city and that most of the soldiers are either dead or gone, I would say that we have no chance of facing Entema or Salorg’s armies if they show up,” replied the guildmaster.
“Heh, while I may have pissed off 2 kings, I should have a few weeks before they take any deadly actions against me. Besides, since this is a city, they won’t be able to bring an entire army here and will likely just surround us or some such. Or…” Terry stopped.
“This must be why you called me in the first place isn’t it?” asked the guildmaster.
“Yep, I’ve received a letter via a hawk since the sender obviously didn’t want me to take a messenger hostage. Here, take a look,” Terry said as he reached at his side to feel a piece of parchment produced before handing it to the guildmaster.
“This?!” the guildmaster began to shake violently before dropping the letter upon the table.
Greetings to all lords of Qelmad!
Lord(Steadhart) has been summoned to Delamare for a lords’ meeting and should make haste to arrive as soon as possible.
Food, drinks, and entertainment will be provided.
A maximum of 3 guests may arrive per lord.
Identity will be verified and this message must be shown to enter the gates of Delamare where guards shall search and escort you to the meeting room.
Weapons may not be brought into Delamare and any weapons brought will be taken and returned at departure. Storage items and armor is fine so long as it is approved by the guards.
Warning! Direct conflict between lords is forbidden and will result in imprisonment and possibly being stripped of rank.
“It’s pretty simplistic for an invitation and I guess I just show up and show this to them. Plus, I can feel magic from this thing which means that I can’t easily copy it. Heh, there's no deadline or anything but I should go anyways,” Terry muttered.
“What?! Why?” cried the guildmaster.
“I doubt that Salorg would invite me to his city if he wanted me dead. Besides, with how he’s acting, he doesn’t seem against me being a prince,” Terry said.
“How do you know that Salorg doesn’t just want you to come to him and get ambushed? And why would he possibly allow his daughter to marry you?” asked the guildmaster.
“After talking to Erina, I learned a bit about Salorg. Mainly, he cares only about how something benefits him and his goals. He’s very similar to me in that sense. And as for Erina, she was to serve as a representative and was to also marry Navarre,” Terry explained.
“What?! Then why would he-”
“I was surprised too. Only people with that level of stupidity and impatience can confuse me but I imagine he wanted to appraise the princess himself in his own sick way before actually getting married. Still, that brings me to the next point, Erina isn’t exactly strong enough to have any authority over her dad and he just planned to marry her off. But since I kicked Navarre out and killed the baron, not to mention have the identity of a platinum adventurer, he’s probably willing to recruit and use me,” Terry continued.
“Smart, but he’ll also kill you if you refuse, right?” asked the guildmaster.

“Don’t worry, I can control myself when necessary. Besides, I’ve readied everything in case I do have to fight him. I plan to gain at least something at the meeting either way,” Terry said.
“So that’s why you organized the citizens and storage… So when will you leave and who will you take?” asked the guildmaster.
“With everything prepared, there’s no reason to wait. As for my guests, I intend to bring Erina, Ryan, Myrrh, and Hector. You can keep Kingsman in case something goes wrong,” Terry said.
“I see, but Myrrh, isn’t she only a few days old?” asked the guildmaster.
“Yep, still, I don’t think she’s doing well since we don’t exactly know how to care for dragon babies. I plan to get her checked and buy a bit in Delamare. You on the other hand, should focus on distributing the weapons and armor I gave you,” Terry replied.
“Oh right, make sure to keep those dragon scales of yours, they’re very rare and can be used to make powerful armor. As for the weapons and armor, while I can’t imagine where you got such foreign equipment, I will do my best to do so by the time you return,” said the guildmaster.
“Good, the rest of the team was getting ready so I was merely clarifying with you,” Terry said.
“I expected as much, but are you sure that Erina is willing to come face to face with her father after all this time?” asked the guildmaster.
“I talked to her and she said that she’d follow me wherever. I think she’s growing to like me, or at least respect me. Still, if I were to get married, she wouldn’t be bad,” Terry continued.
“Heh, hahaha! That’s hilarious to hear coming from you in a serious voice. Either way, I don’t really care as long as you don’t cause ruin to my guild,” laughed the guildmaster as she finished off the mug of beer before her.
“That so? Then I’ll take my leave,” Terry said with a smile as he refilled his glass of orange juice before stepping out of the quiet guild.
“Hey boss, we’re all ready, so where are we going?” Ryan called across the large street as the sun peeked over the horizon. A large red flame burned across his right shoulder as the edges of horns and 2 wings poked out. As a result, the large belly that Ryan had been known for was nowhere to be seen.
“Sure, but let’s make sure to not wake Kingsman. I trust that everyone is in the carriage already?” Terry asked.
“Yeah, that’s what I meant. Even Erina is waiting for you by the horses,” Ryan replied.
“Good, I’m glad that the carriage could actually be modified for you and with such strong horses. Well, lead the way then,” Terry ordered as he followed Ryan through the streets to the city gate where a massive carriage stood, two mighty horses attached securely.
“Hello Steadhart!” called the princess as she sat holding the reigns of the brown horses. Her long, red hair was tied back into a ponytail as she sat under the shade of the tarp which blocked out the powerful sunlight.
Terry waved to Erina and walked up and sat beside her, showing a pure smile.
Erina suddenly slid away from Terry and began to glare at him.
“Oh come on, I told you before, I’m not actually Steadhart. I even showed you his corpse so why do you still hold a grudge against me?” Terry whispered.
“Still, why did you have to let that beast, Navarre live?” asked Erina.
“Haah, because if I didn’t, I would have to face an entire army and there’d be almost no way to escape. Besides, he’s much more valuable alive than dead, trust me,” Terry explained.
“Humph,” muttered Erina as she turned away from Terry.
The carriage began to shake as Ryan opened the large door of the carriage and stepped inside, adding a few hundred pounds with ease.
Terry reached his right arm across Erina’s shoulder and smiled again at her. Terry was glad to have some rest with loyal tools of his, otherwise known as friends.
“Hey! What are you doing?!” stammered the princess as she struggled in Terry’s grip.
“Oh come on, we have to trust each other if we want to live. Besides, I already explained everything to you and Ryan beforehand. Besides, we are a couple,” Terry said.
“Do what you will,” muttered Erina as she ceased her struggling before turning her face away.
Damn, what is up with her? And here I thought that I’d done everything possible to become a trustworthy ally to her. I guess I got no choice, Terry thought.
[Activating Read Minds]
Why is he getting so close? I’ve done everything I can to keep him away so why does he keep acting so nice to me. Damn, he just wants to use me but why can’t I help myself from being charmed by him and his strength? Well, he’s much better than that Navarre, especially in terms of his true looks. Damn it! Why do I have to love this guy of all people?!
Bruh, so she’s one of those types, Terry thought. I guess I could stand to be a husband, especially since I can actually read her thoughts and have insurance over her. And at least she’s better than those other women I was forced to marry for political gain. Still, I’ll probably have to show ownership over her to other lords at the meeting.
Terry gently moved his arm from Erina.
“If you don’t like it then I’ll oblige. Just know that I still love you,” Terry said.
Erina flinched but remained steady as Terry gently took the reins from her soft hands which were abnormally warm.
“I learned about how to do this stuff for an act a long time ago so I should be fine. Just tell me the way to Delamare, okay?” Terry asked.
“Y-yeah… sure thing,” replied Erina as the horses began to move forward.
“Damn, to think that they did something like this…” Terry muttered as he tore a piece of paper before skewering the head of the man before him with Elculem.
“What’d it say?” Ryan asked.
“Apparently I have a bounty of 200 platinum($10,000,000) on my head while you have 50 platinum($2,500,000) and Kingsman has 20 platinum($1,000,000). What’s worse is that they have my face and mask and say your measurements perfectly,” Terry replied angrily as he continued looking through the belongings of the man before him.
“No way. Now I get why there’s been so many strong people trying to kill us. If I had that kind of reward, I’d do the same, hahaha,” Ryan laughed as he removed his claw from the chest of a man hidden in a cloak.
“The problem is that while we’re almost at Delamare, there’s probably loads of people stronger than me who’d happily cause a scene for just a chance at the money. Still, with such a crowd, I may be able to break through numerous levels at once,” Terry said before standing.
“So… what now? Are we seriously going to go?” Ryan asked nervously.
“Did you not hear me? Even if I have to fight alone, I should be able to handle whatever I’m faced with. Still, Entema was the one to place the bounty rather than Salorg so I imagine he’ll have some sort of plan to keep me safe,” Terry explained.
“Perfect, then I guess we should continue onward since Erina is still asleep,” Ryan suggested.
“Yeah, but one thing. Make sure that you say ‘milord’ or some sh*t when talking to me from now on and the same goes for Erina,” Terry ordered as he turned from the bodies back to the carriage, shining with the light of the moon and the light of the small campfire. “Oh, and you remember what to do, right?”
“Sure thing,” Ryan said as he turned to Myrrh and smiled. “Here we go, buddy.”
Terry watched the flames consume the corpses and armor as he placed a few coins in his pocket and inspected another piece of parchment he had gotten from the group.
Quest:Kill 10 monsters=Horned Ogre
Payment=7 gold
Proof of completion=10 Ogre Horns
At the bottom of the paper was the head of a horse and a crown atop its head as a sort of stamp. Terry looked through the items that the team had collected and found 11 of such horns which he placed inside the carriage for safekeeping. Inside, Erina slept inside a soft blanket of some unique fur Terry had never felt before.
Terry had spent little over 2 days for the trip to Delamare since he didn’t need to sleep and had pumped the horses with his blood, giving them the strength to continue forward.
Ryan began to walk forward with Myrrh enjoying her spot on his shoulder as she maintained a wall of flame surrounding her red body.
Terry felt the carriage shake a bit as Ryan entered it and sat inside as Terry urged the horses forward, watching the sun slowly rise for the next few hours.
Knock! Knock!
Terry tapped at the wood behind him in order to alert Ryan before opening his mouth.
“I’m nearing the gate so make sure to protect Erina with your life if necessary,” Terry barked.
“Of course boss,” Ryan said as Terry slowly continued forward to the crowd of other travelers.
Terry looked at the large line before him before noticing another carriage move to the right of the line which was around a quarter of the length.
Terry noticed a few gazes of surprise directed towards him but nobody made a move.
Several guards stood around the area, making fools think twice about causing a scene. Regardless, Terry lifted his right hand behind his head to rest it.
[Activating Blood Compulsion]
Whoosh!
Terry frowned as he felt 3 daggers poked against his neck.
“I assume you know why we’re here. Surrender yourself within 5 seconds or die,” barked 3 voices in unison around Terry.
“Don’t worry, Salorg will kill your families in just one second for touching me,” Terry spat in response as he felt himself lifted from the carriage before it was smashed into the ground.
“Hey! How dare you cause trouble here?!” shouted several voices as Terry became surrounded by several powerful guards, some of which wielding magic weapons.
“Sir, these people have attacked me for no reason. Please help me,” Terry pleaded.
“Yes of course, you’ve done a heinous deed by causing trouble here so we must kill you,” said the group surrounding Terry as they began to charge at him.
[Activating Overwhelming Strength]
“Haah, I thought as much,” Terry sighed as he knocked back the foes surrounding him who each left a small nick across his shoulders and neck.
[Activating Blood Regenation]
“Haah, I was hoping to not fight anybody…” Terry said.
“Well, this is what you get Steadhart. With a bounty as high as yours, you no longer have rights protecting you. We can kill you and easily say you started it to avoid repercussions. So just give up,” replied the group.
“But I guess I should be glad to have such a grand entrance. Ryan!” Terry roared as he drew Elculem while restraining his startled horses with his left hand.
“Don’t worry boss, I’ve been focusing this whole time,” Ryan coughed up as he stood from the rubble of the carriage hiding Erina who weakly held Myrrh to her large chest.
“Oh perfect, now we have another bounty to collect!” cried the group as they revealed their gleeful smiles.
Fwoosh!
Terry smiled as a beam of flame erupted from Ryan’s mouth to reach several meters into the air before exploding, creating clouds of smoke and embers in its wake.
“Holy sh*t…” muttered the entire crowd of people by the gate in awe.
“Hah! No wonder your bounties are so high, this’ll be fun and maybe even boost my level!” laughed a man loudly as a large figure lunged towards Terry.
Clang!
Terry grunted as he parried the greatsword of the muscular man before him, causing it to easily cleave one of the horses into two.
“You’re good! Elisa!” called the man as he swung his sword again to strike Terry’s ribs.
Terry spun his wrist to narrowly block the second strike of the massive blade before he was knocked firmly to the ground.
“...may your flames purge this sinner from this world!” recited a voice as Terry turned to see a large ball of flame flying towards him from the staff of some girl in robes.
“Tch!” Terry muttered as he turned his feet in an attempt to flee.
Splurt!
Terry’s body stopped midair as a large lance appeared out of nowhere and pierced through his chest, paralyzing him.
Shoom!
Two arrows tore through Terry’s legs, causing his knees to lose support.
Damn, this team has some serious skill, Terry thought. I haven’t inflicted a single attack on them but they’ve achieved better results than any of my other foes. I’ll bet that they haven’t even gotten warmed up yet, but neither have I. the question is whether I’ll be forced to cause a scene or not.
Terry watched as he was lifted by the strong figure behind him as the powerful ball of flame advanced against him.
“That’s quite enough. Even if he may have started something here, he is a guest who’s been directly invited by his majesty so I can’t allow his death,” said a gruff voice as Terry saw the flame approaching him dissipate before the spear inside him was removed and he fell to the ground.
“I ask that you all continue with your duties. I can imagine that you caused this altercation out of ignorance and greed rather than treason, right?” asked the voice again as Terry closed his eyes to ease his rest on the dirt of the path.
“Milord!” called Ryan as he jolted forward before stopping himself, keeping himself between the princess and the powerful foes.
“Don’t worry, I’ll heal him,” said a man as he stood beside Terry. The man appeared old with his white hair and wrinkles. Thin fingers extended from the armholes in the large, red robe he wore.
“You’re a royal mage,” stammered the large man as his greatsword shook in his hands.
Ryan watched as the old man glanced quickly at him before a thin beam of wind shot forth to split a large rock behind him.
“Now that you know my identity, I will not overlook further action against lord Steadhart and his allies. Especially one that is of direct descent to king Salorg,” said the man.
The entire crowd became quiet and froze, watching the man crouch beside Terry.
“What’re you-”
“Don’t worry, I’m just healing him,” replied the man as he placed his hands upon Terry’s large chest wound and began to mutter some sort of chant.
Sss!
Terry twitched as he began to feel further pain pulsating through his body.
Sh*t, Terry thought. He’s hurting me. My insides feel like they’re being evaporated by him. I guess I have no choice but to reveal what I am if I want to live, unless this guy’s an idiot.
“Hey buddy, just take me to the king, this is embarrassing,” Terry muttered.
“So you’re still conscious after all that damage, you’re a strong one. Still, I can’t possibly allow you to meet the king in such a state,” insisted the man.
[Activating Blood Compulsion]
“I’m sorry, but lord Steadhart dislikes allowing others to see him in such a state. Please allow him to tend to his own wounds,” Ryan asked as he moved the man’s hands from Terry.
“Sure, it’s not like the meeting is for today. I will still notify the king of your arrival but you may take your time healing considering how early you arrived. By the way, I applaud your power over flames as a dragonkin since I’ve only seen a few as big as you. Not to mention an actual baby dragon. And that signal you gave for me to arrive, very smart. But still, I came only to resolve whatever altercation took place and punish those who started it so you may leave,” said the man as he began to stand.
“Wait! Aren’t you going to check our invitation?” Ryan asked as he lifted Terry’s bleeding body in his burly arms.
“Don’t worry, I’ve already seen it. Oh, and I’ll make sure that you are compensated for the trouble that has happened today. Just be patient,” replied the man with a smile before he turned to the group of soldiers and adventurers.
“Is he okay?” Erina asked weakly, turning her gaze from Terry.
“Don’t worry, he’s fine. I assume he told you so don’t worry. This much isn’t enough to kill him,” Ryan whispered back.
The group began to finally see Erina and Myrrh and almost charged again at the sight before a few of their heads rolled to serve as a warning.
“I’ve just explained, any of you wish to harm the guests of his majesty, I will not stand by,” continued the man angrily.
The man turned again to Ryan and pointed to a thin line which had thick metal guarding the sides. “You are VIP’s so you deserve the VIP line. And afterwards, you can just enter the large inn immediately at your right.”
Ryan smiled back and followed the line where none stood. Two armored guards blocked the entrance but with a wave of the man, made way for the group.
Ryan turned to gaze to his right where a large building stood.
“A Kiss of Death, The Comfiest Rooms of Delamare,” Ryan muttered before shrugging and walking to the building.
The streets were covered with several people of different ages, wealth, size, and even race. Ryan seemed intrigued by the many people who stared at him in return along with the bloody body he carried.
Ryan entered the massive door of the inn and focused on the man at a desk a few meters in front of him. At the sides were other rooms where food and drinks were served to numerous people although Ryan couldn’t care less. All he needed was a room.
“And you are?” asked the man as he glanced at Ryan.
“This is Steadhart and we are his guests, may we have a room?” asked Ryan.
“I heard from all the commotion outside. I know why you’re here so you can pay me later. I’ll lead you to your rooms personally,” said the man as he led the team down some stairs and through a long hallway to a massive room with magic lighting.
“This room has magic circulation so you can expect running water, heating and cooling, and light. There are enough beds but please don’t damage anything. If you need anything, just notify me,” said the man as he quickly turned to leave.
“What about if anyone causes trouble?” Ryan asked.
“Oh that? I’ll just kill them and sell their stuff to turn a profit. In fact, that’s why I put you here, easier for me to protect. Still, nobody does things like that inside Delamare. One thing though, try not to bleed too much on the furniture,” explained the man before stepping out and closing the door behind him.
Ryan set Terry upon a large couch beside him and sat at another while Myrrh sat again on his shoulder and Erina sat at another couch.
“Thanks for the help,” Terry coughed up as he lay.
[Activating Blood Regeneration]
“What happened boss?” Ryan asked in concern.
“Apparently I don’t go so well with normal healents. I’ve tried potions and they hurt me but I didn’t think healing magic or whatever was the same. But just give me a few minutes,” Terry groaned.
Well, I guess I’ll have to go buy everything now that you have to stay low, right?” Ryan asked.
“Damn, just go buy a set of knuckles and something formal. My armor can change shape so I’m set but you both need something dashing. Here, stay within this budget,” Terry said as he handed a small bag of 10 platinum coins.
Erina quickly snatched the money.
“Don’t worry, he said we have plenty of time so don’t stress yourselves.”
“You know, she’s right. Let’s just relax. I mean, even you boss, even without sleep, I imagine just laying down feels great,” Ryan replied.
“Sure, whatever,” Terry muttered as he lay upon the soft fabric of the couch.
“Welcome Lord Steadhart, are these your guests,” asked a large man in a shining set of armor.
[Activating Appraisal]
[Royal General=Very Dangerous; Notice, Royal General is a Legendary Class]
Damn, Terry thought as he looked around. He stood at a side entrance to the castle which supposedly led into the ballroom of the castle where the meeting was to take place. Powerful guards stood ready near the door, looking over all who came close.
“Yes sir, and we have no weapons other than the storage item on my arm,” Terry explained.
“I appreciate your honesty but don’t worry, we’ve already seen everything you own. As for you though, your left hand seems a bit suspicious, may I inspect it?” asked the man.
Terry flinched slightly before reaching out his hand.
“Okay, sorry for the inconvenience but I hope you will refrain from using whatever magic is in your prosthetic if any so that we don’t have to remove it,” said the man.
“Of course,” Terry replied.
Wow, the new power of the Left Hand of Thomalus is incredible. Not only is it incredibly powerful, it can mask its power perfectly. While it was noticed, that also means that the guards are still unable to identify it, Terry thought.
The guards began to step to the sides and Terry led his small team into the opened door of the ballroom.
Terry smiled to see several bulbs lighting the room with magic as several tables stood laden with exquisite food.
Terry saw numerous people in expensive suits, dresses, and armor. Terry couldn’t recognize some of the material for the clothing and armor but didn’t care much and simply glanced around.
“Ryan, you can do whatever but don’t fight anybody. In fact, I would say to just indulge yourself in food,” Terry said.
“Sure thing, I’m so excited!” Ryan said as he shakily walked to the table with the most food.
Terry turned to see Erina huddling close to him.
Haah, Terry thought. She must be shy, whatever, I guess she can follow me.
“Hey Erina, would you mind staying by me?” Terry asked.
“W-what? Well, if you insist,” muttered Erina as she gripped Terry’s left arm weakly.
Terry turned to form a fake smile at Erina before looking for someone to socialize with.
“Hey, aren’t you Steadhart, that guy with the huge bounty?” asked a short, old man as he tapped Terry on the side.
“Why yes I am, wanna be my friend?” Terry asked.
“Hah, hahahaha! You’re funny for someone who took over Areledon and kicked out Navarre Ragnroe while stealing his woman,” laughed the man heartily.
“I’m glad you find me funny, so what do you say?” Terry asked.
“You know nothing about me yet you want my friendship? You must be every bit as desperate as the others are saying. Just so you know, everybody here sees you as a common criminal who’s about to be put down. The same is true for your allies. Although, I can make an exception for the woman if she wants,” said the man as he looked at Erina.
“I appreciate your concern but I doubt you’re qualified in the slightest to marry a princess like me,” Erina said angrily.
“Excuse me? So what, you guys are royalty now? Don’t make me laugh,” said the man as a few other people gathered around Terry.
“So you’re Steadhart, the guy who betrayed his master and took over Delamare just to get your boss’s woman? You both make me sick!” cried a tall woman in an elegant dress. Several men surrounded the woman in an attempt to court her but to no avail.
Terry’s eyes widened in surprise as he pulled Erina close.
“Please do not insult someone when they haven’t harmed you,” Terry replied calmly.
“Oh I’m sorry but just the sight of filth in such a place as this is disgusting. You’re not fooling anyone by saying that you’re a couple so just let me kill you and get the reward,” barked the woman.
“Now, now, while you may not appreciate him, he was invited nonetheless. He was lucky enough to live until the summon was issued so he deserves just as much respect as the rest of us,” replied a tall man in powerful, red and brown armor.
“Oh come on Deus, we all know that he was invited just to execute him and his companions. That b*tch is probably lying about being royalty as well. After all, if she really was, she wouldn’t be with some hooligan,” said the woman.
Terry fumed but remained still, if he attacked for no reason this time, he would likely die.
“Haah, stop insulting my wife you crazy whore. After all, aren’t you just trying to drive her away from me since she’s much better looking than you?” Terry spat back.
“Ooh, this sh*t’s getting intense,” whispered a few voices around the room.
“What?! That does it, you’re dead! I’ll do his majesty a favor,” growled the woman as she lunged at Terry.
“Damn, why do I get attacked everywhere I go here? How can it be that king Salorg can’t even protect a single guest?” Terry muttered as he sidestepped the woman, holding Erina tightly to himself.
“The guy just had to piss off madame Lerule didn’t he? I mean, this was going to happen either way but still, why would he show up in the first place unless he’s stupid?” discussed a few people happily.
“Causing trouble again I see, it won’t do to have royalty causing fights so often. And especially so when they slander the king,” whispered a chilling voice into Terry’s ear.
“So you’re here eh? I appreciate the help but seriously, these guys aren’t treating me like a normal guest,” Terry whined as he turned his gaze to see an old man.
“Now why exactly would we treat you as a ‘normal guest’ after you’ve killed an entire stealth unit?” asked the man.
The room became quiet at the words and the guests listened intently.
“Heh, so you heard about that. Well, they did attempt to rob me and I doubt the one I spared didn’t surrender so~”
“You’re not on trial here, I’m just stating the facts so that you don’t complain and know your place. And the same goes for all of you,” said the man as he glared at madame Lerule who stumbled around off balance.
“Damn, no wonder he’s got such a high bounty. He has to be really strong for something like that. Still, the fact that he’s even alive after that means that even Salorg recognizes him,” muttered the guests in surprise as the old man stepped away from Terry to a table with liquor.
“Did you really kill an entire stealth unit alone or did you get help? How did you do it?” asked a tall man in a black suit similar to Terry’s.
“You must be pretty f*cked up to talk to a guy like me,” Terry said.
“Hahaha! I just respect you and considering your ‘special circumstances’ to say the least, you may as well be the next king, making you a valuable ally,” laughed the man.
“Sure, I can get behind that. I myself would feel safer with somebody having my back if things ever go wrong,” Terry replied.
“Good, well I’m viscount Killua. May our friendship prosper,” said the man with a smile. “And who is this beauty?”
“She’s my wife, otherwise known as Erina Lejren,” Terry replied coldly.
“Lejren… Lejren… wait, she’s a princess?!” cried Killua.
“Well yeah, I did say so didn’t I?” Terry replied, rolling his eyes.
“Damn, well then I apologize young miss,” replied Killua with a small bow. “Still, since nobody’s willing to talk to you, why don’t I introduce you to my friends and some powerful guests?”
“Sure, I could use some friends, as long as my wife is fine,” Terry said as he turned to look Erina in her deep, black eyes.
“It’s fine, I don’t mind,” muttered Erina weakly as Terry followed Killua to a small group of other finely-dressed men and women.
“Heh, I expected you to attempt a friendship with Steadhart but I doubted that he’d accept,” said one of the women of the group.
“Heh, I’m some brigand regardless of how I may seem. I simply saw a position which I assumed to be better off in my hands,” Terry explained.
“You must still be an idiot, why else would you directly attack Baron Scythe? Just because you could kill him, doesn’t mean you stand a chance against king Salorg,” said one of the men.
“That may be true, but I said before, what I did didn’t cause much damage in comparison to the benefits,” Terry replied.
“Oh really? While you may be strong, there’s no way that you’re worth more than those you killed!” cried another man.
“See? That’s why this is a gamble. You have no reason to believe whether I’m valuable or not, so which do you think?” Terry asked with a grin.
“Heh, considering how sure of yourself you’re acting, it wouldn’t hurt to become an ally with you. I propose a toast to celebrate our friendship!” said the man as he grabbed a bottle of red wine from a nearby table.
“I prefer to avoid poisoning myself along with others,” Terry said with a sickening smile.
The man’s eyes twitched in surprise before he smiled.
“Are you denying my friendship now?” asked the man.
Don’t worry, it’s not like you can be poisoned, right? Din asked.
Oh come on, I simply dislike alcohol as a whole but I guess you’re right, Terry replied.
That’s not what I meant. I’m saying that you should ask to check for poison and spike the drink with your blood, Din explained.
I can understand that but how do I spike it? The most I can do is stick my finger inside the bottle but my blood won’t be able to- wait, I think I get it now, I can use that skill, Terry thought.
“Oh alright, just let me taste a bit to make sure I don’t get hella drunk. After all, I have a weak tolerance,” Terry said as he shuddered in embarrassment.
“Oh I see, I thought you were saying that lord Goltoss had added poison to the drink but I guess not. Hahaha, you had us fooled,” laughed the group happily.
“Oh that’s what you meant, well I see no problem. A small taste should work right?” asked Goltoss with a smirk.
“Sure, my hands are clean so I’ll just use my finger if that’s alright,” Terry replied.
“Sure, I see nothing wrong,” replied the group.
Goltoss wrapped his fingers around the neck of the wine bottle before using his thumbnail to swiftly knock the bottle cap off.
Sshhh!
The insides of the bottle began to bubble violently as Terry saw wine shoot upward like a rocket.
[Activating Spur]
Terry quickly locked his right, index finger into the tip of the bottle, sealing the bottle tightly for the moment.
“Get some wine glasses,” Terry grunted as he held his finger tightly inside the bottle.
Heh, this is better than I thought, the bubbles will help me add even more blood than usual without getting caught. But I should still make sure that this ‘Goltoss’ isn’t suspicious of me, Terry thought.
[Activating Read Minds]
I’m glad that he decided to taste the wine and avoid having it spill. Especially after I went through the trouble of sneaking it in here to drink with the others. Now I have more wine to use after carbonating it to improve my puppeteer poison. While it isn’t incredibly potent, I can still get quite a few things from these lords. But just to be safe, I’ll ask Steadhart to offer his wife some wine. After all, he seems protective of her but under my puppeteer poison, he’ll have no choice, making me sure that he hasn’t done anything to the wine while giving me control of a beautiful princess.
Good, even though he himself had the same plan as me, he won’t suspect me so long as I play along so I guess I could give her some wine since it’s necessary for this and having her refuse would seem suspicious. Still, it’s a good thing I read his mind and knew he had poison since my skill doesn’t tell me and he could’ve gotten suspicious, Terry thought.
[Activating Blood Spikes]
[Activating Alchemic Blood]
Hey Din, I know I can pour my blood in her but to keep the amount of liquid the same, is it possible to suck out the poison and some wine by using my finger instead of my mouth? Terry asked.
You’re pretty late to be asking that but I’ll explain a bit more to you. Normal vampires have permanent fangs which is the only way to get blood or any other food and liquid although they can’t digest it, making it deadly. Vampire Lords however, control their fangs and can drink whatever from any part of their body that has blood flowing and can eat and digest anything even if they can only taste blood. As for Vampire Kings and Monarchs, Monarchs being the undisputed rulers of the race, are able to do everything of a lord but can also use mediums such as how Gespendist uses bats to do his bidding and feed. Vampire Kings and Monarchs can also create new vampires by converting other creatures even though that isn’t what you were asking, Din explained.
Well, you didn’t need to tell me all that but I guess the knowledge will help for later reference. Thanks Din, Terry replied.
“Lord Steadhart, I have prepared 2 glasses to catch whatever spills, just try not to spill,” said Killua as he walked over to Terry.
[Activating Blood Regeneration]
“Sure thing,” Terry replied as he removed his finger to pour the wine into a glass before shifting to the next after filling the first. The second glass was filled a third of the space before Terry tipped the bottle back up after noticing the bubbles settle down.
Terry tasted his finger thoroughly before shrugging his shoulders.
“The wine’s fine I guess, I’ll drink with whoever’s willing,” Terry said with a kind grin.
“Alright, then I’ll have some too, to a good friendship!” cheered a man from the group before a few more joined in.
“Now Steadhart, why don’t you give your wife some wine?” asked Goltoss.
“Sure, hey Erina, why don’t you have a glass?” Terry asked as he turned to Erina.
“Are you sure? Well alright,” Erina said uncertainly as she took a glass of wine from Goltoss.
Terry watched happily as the group drank from their wine glass one by one as Goltoss handed some glass for the others of the group to drink from even though they didn’t wish to befriend Terry.
“Now then Killua, how are your territories in Parloss?” Goltoss asked.
“The f*ck? Why would I tell you something as private as that?” Killua asked in surprise.
“What? Oh, I was joking of course, never mind me,” Goltoss stammered.
“Miss Hilda, what have you learned from the dwarves and their technology?” Goltoss asked nervously.
“That’s very classified information Goltoss, only a select few can know about that information. You know I can’t tell you that no matter what,” explained one of the women of the group.
“Goltoss!” Terry called.
“Wha- what do you n-need?!” Goltoss cried as he began trembling violently.
“I nullified your poison so we can remain friends but don’t try this kind of thing again,” Terry whispered into the heated ear of Goltoss.
[Activating Intimidation]
Goltoss froze and didn’t dare to look Terry in the eyes out of fear for his life.
“Something wrong?” Killua asked, placing his hand on Goltoss’s shoulder.
“Ask him yourself,” Terry said.
“Attention lords and guests!” called a loud voice.
Terry noticed the lights begin to dim while a side door opened where most light was focused at as several individuals, some covered in jewels and some covered in armor, entered the room. Many were seemingly couples and those in armor held powerful weapons, likely making them guards. After most of the couples had entered the room, a massive man walked surrounded by guards and 4 elegant women.
Terry began to flinch as he felt his knees tense while Erina trembled at the sight of the man who finally entered the room.
[Activating Appraisal]
[Unable to appraise/Class rank is currently too low]
Hey Din, what does that message mean? Terry asked.
I knew he was strong to be a member of The Ten but that’s insane. You haven’t been able to properly utilize yourself since you haven’t yet breached level 100 but even so. His strength must be at least 5 times your current power to get a reading like that! Din cried in surprise.
Well then, I just hope that he doesn’t kill me considering I can’t do much else at the moment other than to freeze Erina to prevent her from an outburst of some kind, Terry thought.
[Activating Blood Compulsion]
“I am glad that you have all heeded my summons and arrived here without fail. Although, you know just how rare a summons for all lords is and I will explain why so I ask for no interuptions,” said the king before glancing over the lords while stopping for a full second to reveal a smile at Terry. “While you may have your own problems respectively, there is one overwhelming threat that cannot be ignored. A group of rogue dragons have decided to attack us and so we must prepare for a large-scale attack in order to survive and keep casualties to a minimum.”
The lords began murmuring amongst themselves at the knowledge until a few questions were asked.
“Where are they located,” asked a voice.
“I will not disclose that information yet in order to keep you all safe. I do not want any of you getting killed for falsely thinking you have a chance against a dragon,” answered the king.
“How many dragons are there and what kind are they? Also, what is the dragon queen doing about this?” asked another voice.
“Good question, there are more than 100 dragons according to our intel of ranging sizes such as Lesser Dragons, Wyverns, and even Elder Dragons. As for Cynthia, she is unable to attack them due to some dragon politics between the two groups. She has given us permission to deal with them however we see fit if that sets your minds at ease in terms of a reward. That is also why I can’t allow rogues to go in an attempt to steal such precious resources,” explained the king.
“So, what exactly do we do now?” asked another voice.
“That was the main topic of importance and the others will be discussed individually. I hope you all enjoy yourselves now,” said the king as the lights were adjusted and he began to mingle with the guests.
“Wow, I’m surprised he didn’t pay much attention to me considering what I did. I guess I’m now in the clear,” Terry joked to Killua who remained beside him while the king and the other newcomers were surrounded by all.
“I wouldn’t say that, he said himself that the dragons were the only big problem and that the small problems would be dealt with individually. Don’t overestimate yourself, after all you don’t amount to even a single adult dragon,” said a voice behind Terry.
Killua gasped in surprise as Terry turned around.
“What do you mean ‘a single adult dragon’? I’ve killed a-” Terry stopped mid sentence.
“Steadhart, show some respect. That man is Dragul Lejren, the third prince of Delamare!” cried Killua.
Terry simply stared into the eyes of the tall man before him in an expensive, blue suit.
“You’re not even the least bit surprised that a prince is interested in you? And what were you saying before?” asked Dragul.
“I simply wanted whoever was behind me to know that I, meaning no disrespect, have friends in higher places than them. Now that I know who you are, my answer is unchanged,” Terry replied.
“Heh, I made the right choice after all,” said Dragul. “Hey Killua, please leave us. And as for your wife Steadhart, I trust that she can be trusted,” continued Dragul, watching Killua hurry away.
Terry squinted his eyes in suspicion but didn’t so much as twitch otherwise, holding Erina close.
“What do you mean?” Terry asked.
“I mean that I made the right decision to help you out according to Greed’s suggestion,” replied Dragul.
“Oh, so he’s not coming himself? Well, I guess it makes sense that considering how strong The Ten are, interfering with me would be a waste,” Terry muttered with a sigh.
“Oh, I’m surprised that you’ve come to terms with all that so quickly. It’s pretty hard to believe that you’re a hero, and from another continent nonetheless…” Dragul suggested.
“Heh, what could you be talking about I wonder,” Terry replied with a frown.
“You’re smart, but I assure you that you know exactly what I’m talking about. Still, you gave a pretty good answer. Either way, since you’re still talking to me like this, I would say that you are definitely who Greed sent me to find. Fake Steadhart, or rather, Terry Isenburg…” continued Dragul.
“I shouldn’t underestimate the richest guy in the world it would seem. I guess I can trust you but you still haven’t told me how you’ve helped me,” Terry explained.
“Oh that? A bit of backstory is that I’m a prince who’s also an apprentice of Greed in a way. I am the richest of the royal family other than my father of course. As such, my father and siblings listen well to me, which is how I persuaded them of your worth and to allow your service to me,” Dragul proudly explained.
“While I don’t want you as my enemy from what you say, I don’t owe you anything. Especially since I myself am a royal now however illegitimate it may be. So I ask you again, how have you helped me,” Terry asked.
“Haah, you’re sure are smart. And since you have the Left Hand of Thomalus, I can’t exactly attack you. Well, how about this, I can smooth over your royal status, making you incredibly influential and powerful,” Dragul said.
“Say I do join you, what do you want in return?” Terry asked.
“I want your help in the coming battle in terms of a trade but more importantly, I want for us to be comrades. Or rather, Greed would be pleased far more in that case than some simple contract,” explained Dragul.
“I see, I guess that I have no choice in the matter so sure. Besides, I could use the chance to get stronger and boost my reputation. Still, I’d appreciate it if you would keep my identity secret,” Terry said.
“No problem, but still…” Dragul said.
“What?” Terry asked.
“Is there a reason why my sister is just frozen in place even while I’m standing right in front of her. I mean, I’m glad she’s not super pissed off at me for being a terrible brother but…” replied Dragul.
“What? What’s going o- Dragul?! What do you want?!” cried Erina in surprise as she held Terry tightly.
“Heh, it would seem that you must be quite strong to make my wife fear you to a degree. Especially when she’s very strong even on her own,” Terry laughed.
“And you have demonstrated just how right Greed and I were to choose you,” Dragul replied before leaning his head closer to Terry’s ear. “I’ve already talked to my father about having you serve as a member of an elite group of the strongest fighters that Delamare has access to.
“So what, I just meet my team and get to killing some dragons?” Terry joked.
“What? Dragons?!” Erina cried.
“Don’t worry, let’s just listen for now, we can ask questions later,” Terry said to quiet Erina.
“Exactly, I set it all up for you and a bunch of others. Fair warning though, there’re plenty of people who are much stronger than even you. And that goes double with the high chance that you’ll be hiding your true power,” Dragul replied.
“Damn, what about my allies like Ryan and Kingsman?” Terry asked.
“Oh right, I heard that you also had a baby dragon but were smart enough to keep it in an undercover incubator. Don’t worry, your friend Ryan is already waiting for you in the room for briefing, a real smart beast he is. As for Kingsman, you can bring him but he’ll likely be dead by then on account of bounty hunters. Besides, I can’t bring anyone other than the best or it would hurt my image,” replied Dragul.
“Heh, so you’re benefiting by getting money from my achievements? I don’t care about that compared to being a genuine royal in this place. As for Kingsman, I left him because I expected people to attack, and it’ll be a nice reward for him,” Terry said with a smile.
“I won’t ask so as to not spoil hearing what happens but you and Erina can follow me to the meeting room,” Dragul said as he motioned for Terry and Erina to follow him. “Oh, and don’t worry Erina, dad doesn’t care that you’ve decided to come. In fact, he’s happy that you can still serve a purpose. And since Steadhart isn’t some disgusting pig and has decent looks, I can be at ease with him as your husband.”
“Tch, I thought as much. You guys haven’t changed at all,” Erina spat as she and Terry followed Dragul out of the room.
