《Distant Kingdoms: Magic War》Hazel Meadows: Diary Entry 3

I flew across the richly decorated room, aiming for the arched window. Flying through it with a simple step boost on the sill.
A slice of my hand and the barrier that kept the building protected, sliced opened. The sounds of the city flooded to my ears, enveloping me in a mixture of feelings that was both strange and comforting.
I walked high above the city, staring down at the forest that sounded the high wall city. The city was a matching white and red housing. You could pick out the nobility housing to the commoners but it wasn’t as degrading as what movies make it out to be. The dull red wall sat high upon a mountain top, overlooking a vast forest.
I could hardly make out smaller cities due to the large clearing of trees.
I reached into my storage card, pulling out a pair of binoculars. I stared into the horizon, taking a closer look at the cities in distances. I couldn’t find anything different about this world. Something that said, these guys were in desperate need for outsiders help.
Maybe, I was too far into the safe haven?
Clicking my teeth, I put the binoculars back and grabbed fur coats. It was chilly despite the sun being directly overhead. I formed a throne of cards and flew across the vast sky. Halfway, my stomach growled and I pulled out a prepared meal.
Enjoying it and the scenery while I went to the extreme west. It only took three hours of flight for the vast forest to slowly disappear and what replaced it was hills and plains of greenery. You could make out more villages and cities. Forts standing erect against the green backdrop.
However, I could also now make out smoke billowing up into the sky like ugly finger jabbing into the heavens. There were more than nine lines of such black clouds.
I pulled out my binos and took a look. My eyes widened, my soul cursed thirty different ancestors, my heart was ready to fly in different directions.

I had experience fighting things from the underworld. There were plenty of summoners back in my world. It wasn’t uncommon for a target to hire one and be guarded by things that couldn’t be killed in your plane.
Those things weren’t jokes.
They were the definition of the hardest things I had to put down and my ability is rated as S-tier. I have invulnerability, enhanced physical ability, and my card ability is very versatile. The limitation is so minor that it isn’t even worth describing.
For me to say that I am having trouble killing them in my primary world, is like saying someone near God has descended and wants to destroy the world. Bow and surrender, mortals.
I saw armies of lesser demons attacking an entrench human soldier. Even though they were doing fine and probably would last a while. There was a fucking portal that was visible to the eyes not even thousands miles back.
I bet that if the demons didn’t split their forces between two sides of humans, they would have made it far in land.
I glanced back to see if there was reinforcement incoming and gratefully there was. Just that by the time they made it to the fort, a lot of people would die. Plus the front line was spread out for miles. While there was a natural barrier, a very fast and large river cutting through the battlefield. It wouldn’t stop the majority of these demons who were tall enough to reach up and grasp a cloud.
I clicked my tongue. I wondered if these demons are as strong as the ones from my world. On top of that, I wondered if there was a different place I could hide while the humans struggled to survive?
I shot down towards the fort.
Why?
Fuck, I had a bleeding heart.
That’s why.
I wasn’t sure if the humans lost that I would have a place to research on getting back to my homeland. Where all the richest I accumulated set inside a bank with a nine digit pincode. What good would it do me here? Where I had yet to accumulate the riches of these humans? Bought the most expensive things? Enjoy the luxuries, bathed in Gold, throw gems at people like they were beads during a parade.

Tsk, I, at least, need somewhere to enjoy human company. I definitely wasn’t going to live in a cave with a nerd boy.
It took me only eleven minutes to reach the front lines. A card enlarged in front of me and I walked through it, walking out the otherside in white suit of armor. A beautiful silver rose pattern spread across the armor, adding a beautiful glint that made me look like a badass hero. This was my backup armor I used when protecting high profile targets.
I held a matching longsword and shield in my hand. The handguard of the sword was a blooming rose. Perfect.
I dove towards the ground, shield before me as I brace for impact.
Boom!
I didn’t do any fancy posturing. I knew demons would tear me apart if I was that dumb. Instead, I shot up, swinging my sword in arc, sending a sword beam wave slicing through those right in front of me.
I began dancing, moving my shield close to my body, at angles to deflect and keep me moving. Never stopping as I was stupid enough to land within their midst. My blade worked full time to take plenty of these opportunities they provided to gift them fatal wounds.
It was mere moments since I landed and my blood was already boiling at a feverish pace. There was sweat gliding down the visor that I had attached to my face to keep the sweat and any blood projectile from getting into my eyes.
Helmets wasn’t the greatest protection against your own body fluids or others. Plus I wasn’t wearing one.
I didn’t move deeper into the enemy formation, I was moving to the shield warriors so that they could be my back.
Ha, these bloody imbeciles thought I would slip on blood? On their comrades? How foolish were they to think that me, a nine star assassin, would not be aware of my surroundings!
I kicked off one of the tankier demon's fist, flipping over another trying to tackle me from the side. I landed on top of the shoulders of another demon, my blade thrusting down into his head and out, easily. I rode him down, deflecting spears and claw thrust.
Now that I had my back to a somewhat friendly force, I began dancing in a circle near them. Taking to the air when I felt myself getting close to being overwhelmed. I doubted they realized that I had two cards in the air acting as drones.
Ha!
I wasn’t so foolish as to drop down into their midst without some awareness of my incompetency.
I soon forgot how long my blade worked at cutting down these demons. I knew it must have been long because I came during the day, the sun was still rising. I remember feeling some heat but the chill of winter’s breath working wonders to keep my temperatures balanced.
Now the cold had come fast and the first thrill of fighting in a large scale battle was wearing off. As my limbs began to feel the effect of mother nature's disapproval, I was feeling the need to disperse.
The demons were the first to issue a retreat. I didn’t chase them as my limbs were so cold that I long wanted to quit and go enjoy a warm bath. However, the last half of the fight, a more talented demon held me down or I would have long ditched these guys. He was talented with a spear, I give him that and his regeneration ability was top notch.
Next time though, I would play the archer in warm clothes. Rather than being in soft silk inside a metal container.
Wait, I am in a magical world. I’ll get one of these mages to enchant my armor.

Dungeon Darwinism: Deepest Dungeon
Dungeons are a lot like sea turtles. They’re born in clutches of dozens, if not hundreds. A hundred may be born at one time, buried in still burning cities, or in forests where the canopy hides the sky, or in ocean trenches at the bottom of the sea. But only one in a clutch ever makes it to the surface. Everyone knows about dungeons— monstrous factories that emerge out of the earth, full of riches and Arcana and power— and monsters. But most of humanity only know about the dungeons that make it. Mark doesn’t know anything about dungeons. He isn’t from this world, and only as a victim of circumstance has he become an unwilling half of a dungeoncore. The other half is a Dark Lord. (Rewrite)
