Chapter 16: Real Bosses’ Battle
The battle of the real bosses began. Relnandes was acting over-confident.
He knew with his techniques not even Gondocks stood a chance against him. But what he didn’t know was that Gondocks had something up his sleeve as well. Gondocks’ specialty was always his knives and swords.
So, when Gondocks noticed that overconfident smile streaming from Relnandes’ face, he grew cautious.
He activated the [Edge Cutter] skill and the [Moonwalk] skill.
One of those, the [Edge Cutter], was a remarkable skill to learn. It is one of those skills that prove you are a real Martial Artist and planned on living up and working yourself to becoming great!
The other, [Moonwalk] was a joke for a skill. Ever since its creation, everyone has looked down on it. There just weren’t any proper use for it.
It is a moonwalk dance.
And what does a moonwalk dance have to do with Martial Arts? That’s what made everyone in the colosseum confused when Gondocks started dancing in that style.
The [Moonwalk] skill is nothing but a dance.
In fact, most beginner Martial Artist that find the skill description and image in the historical archive laughed it off as “What’s a dance move doing here? I thought this was supposed to be Martial Arts not my new dance lesson”
Which is what made quite some people laugh in the colosseum. It was a funny sight, seeing someone as talented and credited as Gondocks dancing around the stadium with his eyes close.
Even his opponents were confused but would not allow themselves to be fool by whatever mockery Gondocks was throwing at them.
Except it was no mockery Gondocks was throwing at them. It’s just that almost everyone dismisses the moonwalk skill as a useless skill found in the Martial Arts historic archive. But it truly wasn’t.

The moonwalk skill actually had another side to it, and Gondocks realized that, which explains why he is using it.
Without realizing anything, Relnandes and his partners continue heading straight for Gondocks. Gondocks continue to dance and dance his way around the stadium to Ertenous’ team.
The moment Relnandes deemed it was a perfect distance, he would use his [Expert Claw Reach] skill to grab Gondocks up into the air and finish him off with a quick [Expert Claw Attack]. That was the plan, except plans usually don’t work well against the [Moonwalk] skill.
The moment Relnandes deemed it was a perfect distance, he activated his [Expert Claw Reach] to grab Gondocks, except Gondocks managed to dodge it completely with his eyes close!
His very specific dance moves move him from left to right, and when Relnandes tried to grab him just now, Gondocks moved to the right, following his dance pattern.
It could be complete coincidence or it could be the [Moonwalk] skill at work.
Relnandes tries to grab Gondocks again. The same event happens, except in opposites.
This time, Gondocks did not move to the right but the left. It could be coincidence or it could be the [Moonwalk] skill at work.
Relnandes tries multiple times, and each time, Gondocks would move at the exact perfect moment to dodge the reach attack. Either by moving to the left or right, down or up via his dance pattern.
Relnandes was now being looked like a complete fool and the person that was looking like a fool in the beginning (Gondocks since he activated the [Moonwalk] skill) was being taken seriously.
Everyone in the colosseum began to rethink everything they knew or thought they knew about the [Moonwalk] skill.
“How come I didn’t know about this side of the [Moonwalk] skill?” everyone began to wonder.

“Since when did the [Moonwalk] skill have something like that?” wondered everyone.
Gondocks started to get cheers simply for his amazing dance moves. And slowly but surely, he was approaching Relnandes.
Relnandes became aware of how close he and his partners have gotten to Gondocks when Gondocks momentarily stopped dancing, opened his eyes, and outstretched his arms, revealing a knife.
Gondocks’ knife became longer via an extension of water. The [Edge Cutter] skill’s terrifying nature is reveal.
--------
What made the [Edge Cutter] terrifying wasn’t because it could cut edges like the name suggest, but because since the cutter can cut edges, it takes whatever characteristics of the edge you are looking at. Hence, the terrifying nature of [Edge Cutter].
For example, a person has a defense that is made of fire.
And since that fire gives protection even against water, its natural weakness, instead of the opponent using water to attack the fire which would take a long time to wear the fire down, why don’t you use the same fire to attack fire.
Something that could cut a defense, let’s say a knife, but a knife of fire.
And to make it even better, what if the weapon (any weapon) once activated by a certain skill, can take the characteristics of the opponent’s defense, hence the importance of [Edge Cutter].
Most defenses whether water-base or fire-based or any other, states in their description what their weaknesses are, but they avoided mentioning one other weakness.
What if a strong water-based attack could pierce a strong water-based defense? Is that not feasible?
This is the question that many Martial Artists have asked themselves, which is why, we have the [Edge Cutter] skill.
--------
The edge cutter isn’t an easy skill to use, and even if you learn how to use it, if you don’t have enough experience, it might not work to its full potential.
But at that particular moment, Gondocks wasn’t worried about having enough experience with the edge cutter or anything else for that matter.
He was focus on one thing.
He was aiming at all the critical points in Relnandes and his partners’ water-based defense. And since their water-based defense shielded them from any attacks at all their critical points, it made Gondocks’ job easier in locating them.
Since all of team Ertenous were covered by this blue transparent liquid on their critical points.
The number one assassin in Ryoukai town, the expert Gondocks need not look too hard to find a critical spot.
They were all in the open for all to see. He just need to land a couple of strikes.
---------
Relnandes, losing his cool, started to attack Gondocks with his [Expert Claw Attack]. Gondocks merely went back to his dancing and expertly dancingly dodges all the un-dodge-able attacks with his eyes close once again.
Gondocks was no longer relying on his Hawk’s time spec, but using only dance and allowing fate to dictate. And fate keeps on dictating good fortune upon him. For no matter how many attacks Relnandes does on Gondocks, not a single one hit him.
Gondocks was dodging all the attacks with his eyes close!! How can he dodge attacks he cannot even see? The secret to the [Moonwalk] will be reveal!!

Journeys in the Fairworld: The Gatekeeper
Lindsey Fluger was only slightly past eighteen. There was nothing particularly special about her, save that she happened to be the right person at the right time. When Lindsey is asked to join an expedition to another world she makes the mistake of saying yes, plunging herself into a sea of perilous adventure and dark intrigue. Journeys in the Fairworld is a fantasy anthology series set in The Fairworld, a magical realm existing in parallel with our own world which is governed by a group elfin beings known only as “The Good Folk”. These mysterious entities work in secret to keep the peace between the myriad of peoples and nations which dwell in The Fairworld. Complex relationships and bitter rivalries emerge against a backdrop of constrained resources and conflicting values to produce a world of high adventure and tangled mysteries. This novel is technically already completed, and I am currently in the final stages of proofing or editing. As such, there may be a few typos and errors here and there. The final version should be about 130,000 words long, which I will be releasing in stages as I continue editing. I'd love to hear your feedback and comments! If you want to read more stories from Journeys in the Fairworld, please checkout “Journeys in the Fairworld: The Brigand of Potham”, which is also available here on Royal Road Legends. https://www.royalroadl.com/fiction/19369/journeys-in-the-fairworld-the-brigand-of-potham

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.
