《Paradox》Chapter 4 - Incantations?

Three days later, my eyes were dreary from being up all night trying to find a good position to sleep comfortably. The bed is made of troll skin for some reason they don't know what is fibre.
“Ren, I am about to teach you about the element you can control as well as some basic incantations” a familiar voice said, but I saw no one next to me then as I got off the bed I felt as if something grabbed my feet. Luckily, it was only Izumi. Should I be saying I'm lucky for him to grappled my leg?
First off, why was he under that monstrosity of a bed and why am I being the one feeling unsafe? There is literally a very cute snow looking girl in the next room. Anyways, I proceeded to take my foot and step on his hands. He screamed to the top of his lungs begging to get off.
After that incident, Lily pulled me aside, “Be careful” and then she wandered off somewhere. I didn't follow her to ask why because Izumi was tugging the back of my shirt and dragging me to a deserted place right at the outskirts of the town. I'm guessing is because magic is something powerful in these parts (well I hope so).
“So uh, Izumi can anyone learn this magic or whatever you call it?” I asked. “No, only the talented can learn magic they have to be of a magic originated family or there's possibilities of outworlders like you than can learn it”. Izumi replied gently, laughing for some reason. “Why do you know how to find out if someone has magic capabilities” I queried. Izumi sighs, Like I stroke a part of him that I suppose to not look into but he still answered, “Truth is, I was a scientist for the capital that trained magicians, but if you didn't know the capital is now ruled by the 12 demi gods, later we will discuss further on this topic, okay?” I just nodded and continue to trail behind him.

The place was so barren only sand and sand mountains like a desert with no end in sight. Only a big circle stone emplaced in the ground. As we stepped foot on the big circular stone in the ground, “We are here, Ren” he calmly told me, it was like he was scared of doing it which made me doubt his methods he was going to use. “There are five main elements and they all go around a cycle, fire, wind, earth, water, electricity, only one you can learn but the method is a cruel one, so sorry in advance, drink this.” The bottle reminded me of a glass cola but the inside of the bottle is beginning to question if I want to control elements or not. The contents looked life vomit mixed with the worst scent you could possibly smell. I covered my nose and hoped for the best. My head started to dose off, it felt like a skyscraper just landed on my head and I barely could've breathed. I fell unconscious. I kept hearing voices while I was asleep... “Let him go, kill us, spare him, you are to change this fowl world, you don't need us anymore, run towards the light and never look back”.
I awoke, only to see Izumi stooping in a corner waiting, “Are you okay? Organs intact? Then great, it was a success”. So, now I'm scared for my life if I did die but I didn’t but there was still that chance. Nothing felt out of the ordinary. Izumi told me to do a small incantation, ‘I beseech thee and spark thy element’, nothing happened. Nothing at all. Izumi was shocked and so was I. Why didn’t it work? Wasn’t I suppose to die or something if I wasn’t capable?

“How are you alive?” Izumi blasted out of his mouth. I shouted back, “HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW! YOU TRIED TO KILL ME!”. “NONO, dear Ren, I have tried to awaken you but thank the heavens you are still alive, only downside is that you came out with nothing”. I dropped back to the ground and laid there, contemplating my bad luck. Even in another world my bad luck follows, at least I'm still alive. He treated me as a test monkey, I'll hold that against him when we get back into town. Even though, it's still strange that I did survive that monstrosity of a potion and no element showed up so it's very confusing, it's that confusing, even Izumi who use to specialize in these things got confused. Now the real question is what exactly is Izumi and does he have another ulterior motive towards this planet we are on?
In the distance, smoke flashed in the direction of the town. We both understood that meant something big is about to go down. We ran as quickly as we could only to find the place in flames.
