《The Firefly Diary》S2E7: Musik Krugers

Musik Krugers.
Mosor never considered herself one to be superior in tastes. Indeed, everyone had individual tastes.
Too bad almost no one shared the same sentiment, when it came to some matters of things. There were topics that could never be brought up for it was taboo. And there were some that, once brought up, brought major controversy.
Musical tastes had always been one of those major controversies.
She didn't exactly expect, when she turned on the vinyl record, for Baynana to say, "That music sucks, change it."
"Excuse me?" Mosor asked, raising an eyebrow. "You don't say that, that's very rude."
Baynana said, "It's just that your music sucks. It's just music, without any sounds or meaning to it."
Mosor said, "This is a classic, Baynana."
"Classic music isn't being made anymore for a reason," Baynana said, and Mosor grunted.
She put the record on louder, and Baynana decided to leave the kitchen, while Mosor arranged dinner.
Kyofi walked in, carrying groceries. "What's cooking, good looking?" Kyofi asked, before slapping her sister's bottom.
Mosor's eyes widened, and she said, "Kyofi!" A yellow blush came over the wolf-fox's cheeks, though a third cheek was also glowing yellow from the slap.
Kyofi said, "Why are you listening to this anyway? It's complete garbage music?"
Mosor frowned, and said, "Please don't say that, as it's rather rude, and I wouldn't bully you for your music choice."
Kyofi said, "I'm not bullying you, I'm bullying your music. There's a difference."
Mosor grunted and said, "Anyway, about dinner. Did you bring any of the peppers?"
Kyofi shook her head and said, "They've gone up in price again. They aren't on sell anymore."
"They're only a couple Drakilver," Mosor said.
"Yeah," Kyofi said with a fake laugh. "We don't have that kind of money lying around."
Mosor blinked. "We've been doing a lot of business, and we've been doing well. Are our margins bad?"
Kyofi said, "No, it's all good, we're good to live, just that, we're not able to pay for four drakilver peppers."

Mosor grunted, and said, "At some point we will be rich enough to afford overpriced grocery products."
Kyofi said, "Maybe we should tap into your vinyl budget." She walked off.
Vanos walked in five minutes later, and Mosor said, "Don't you dare bring up your problems with my music, I do not want to hear about it."
Vanos said, "I wasn't going to." Mosor thought she was in the clear, and finished spinning the spoon in the pasta. As he walked into the living room, he said, "Who let's Mosor play those records? They suck."
On one hand, she felt like applying a wooden spoon to several bottoms, with Kyofi getting at least two smacks. While Baynana was the rudest overall, Mosor knew she was a little different than others, having harder times understanding social cues. Kyofi was an adult, and had no excuse.
During dinner, as everyone sat around the table, Mosor scooped out the pasta. She wanted to be a bit childish, and give some lesser portions for their comments, but she only knew how to be rational.
After literally dishing out the food, she gave everyone their drinks, and also put down a plate of mashed potatoes for everyone to freely scoop from. She looked down upon the angel hair pasta, and up towards the moon, before saying, "May we not get food poisoning."
She told the others, "Now, we need to have a small talk, about some of the comments made earlier." Being at the head of the table had several small perks despite the facts she had to keep everything in order.
"Momma's at it again," Kyofi whispered to Vanos, who snickered at nickname Mosor had earned a few weeks ago.
Mosor said, "My vinyls seem to disturb others. However, since I am the one who does the cooking and cleaning three days a week, I will play my records and my music as I'd like to."
Kyofi asked, "Wait, if we did the cooking, we could play our own music?"
Mosor said, "There are six of us. I'm fine with cooking only two days, and you all could get your own day."

Mynt said, "I'm not very good at cooking. I'm just good at scooping, and I don't want to learn to cook."
Kyofi said, "I'm more of an eating person myself..."
Great, that just left Ahmond and Vanos being the back-up cooks. And that was assuming they wanted to help out that day, whereas Mosor would end up working a fourth day that week, if not fifth.
At least she got her music. "Anyway, if any of you make more comments, I will tune it up louder, got that?" Mosor asked.
"Yes," they all said, and Kyofi muttered "Momma" under her breath.

Mosor was fine the next day, about to put down the groceries, when she heard the sounds of her records. Classic jazz.
She kept the bag handles in her maw as she slunk around, before finding the perpetrator, being none other than Mynt. Mynt wasn't cooking. However, she was cleaning the dishes, while humming along to the sound, and she even tapped her feet to the beat.
Mosor asked Mynt, "Mynt?"
Mynt's eyes widened as she saw Mosor. "Oh, Mosor. I was just listening-"
"You like classic jazz, don't you Mynt?" Mosor asked, with a grin on her face.
Mynt stared away. "Well, I really do like other genres of music, but on occasion I need something new-"
"You can't handle their comments on our music, can you?" Mosor asked.
"I think it's dumb to say the least," Mynt said. "You also like techno, and I can't stand techno because I hate synthesizer. At the same time, I listen to... Uh... Some bands you dislike."
Some bands whose names weren't allowed to be said near children. Actually, some adults weren't old enough to hear those names. Mosor said, "Yeah, I guess we all have our own things, and it's weird when the others make us feel small for our musical tastes."
Mosor prepped the table, while Mynt finished the last dish. "How do you think it starts?" Mosor asked. "Why do we war over music?"
"I think that while art is subjective, it's not really until it comes to music," Mynt said. "Music is one of the few things that is really subjective, where we all have different tastes, and different opinions."
"But that's the same in books," Mosor said.
"Is it?" Mynt asked. "I think even books have some measure of objectivity. Same with paintings. You don't think some crayon drawing in when you were young compares to a national masterpiece, do you?"
"Some masterpieces look like crayon scribblings," Mosor said.
"Even so." Mynt put up the groceries. "In actual studies, we've found most are able to tell when something is a masterpiece, and when something is a crayon scribbling, if you're talking about abstract art."
"Okay," Mosor said. "Still, what's that prove?"
Mynt said, "Maybe art is truly objective in some ways. At some point it's just taste, but there are points of merit. There are things we can look at and talk about, but in music... Maybe there's not."
Mosor said, "I don't think that's right. Why would music of all things be where the line is drawn? It's like saying sculptures are highly subjective because they just are."
Mynt said, "Even if you don't like a book, you know when it's well written, right? But with a song, you never hear the same thing. You never hear someone saying, 'yes, this piece is rather good, just not my tastes', you hear 'put down that music you stinkin' kid!'."
Mosor laughed, then stared down. "Is that it then? Is music truly subjective against all other things? Is there no such thing as good music, just opinions thereof?"
Mynt told Mosor, "I think so."
That night, as the family ate lasagna, Mosor turned on her vinyl record.
"You can play it while cooking," Kyofi said, "we agreed to that. We didn't agree to it during meal time."
"Well," Mynt said. "We agreed." She winked at Mosor, and Mosor laughed.

HEIMDALLR
After his first life, Heimdallr felt he had lived a decent way; he wrote stories and lived a simple life, avoiding publicity and focused on promoting growth to the few who cherished his works. But after being reborn as Heimdallr Dagrsson, one of the many sons of Daesal's greatest warrior Dagr, he was put into a world devoid of wide-spread access to reading and writing. Instead, he was dropped into a world where fighting and death commonly reared their heads. Now, faced between his unsupported passion and his new life's innate talent and upbringing, he will have to find his new path. He will forge a new story that would make even himself dubious of whether or not it's fact or fable. HEIMDALLR is a story taking place in the setting created for another previous work of mine called KOBOLD. It follows a reincarnated person trying to wrestle between their old life and new life's wants and needs, all the while adapting to the situations that arise out of his control. Heimdallr starts out trying to survive and live a new life, all the while facing challenges and growth both fantastical and painfully real. Loosely inspired by Norse mythology and histories (names and some themes), spun into a fantasy, grit-rooted world. Skål! All content warning tags are applied so as to allow freedom of writing but there is no intent of excess or even regular use of these themes. Regardless of this, any and all uses will have dedicated warnings presented in the chapter whenever they are present! Reader beware!
