《Apathy At Gifted Academy》12. Student Council Trial - Part 1

The bell rang signalling the end of class.
I had been called into the student council room along with several other people regarding the Saha case. It seemed they were going to try to claw out every speck of information they could, quite a commendable justice system.
As I entered the room I saw a very large U-shaped table. The room was quite solemn, similar to a real courtroom. It was quite dark with the curtains being mostly pulled, only letting in a little bit of sunlight. The room had an awkward airy smell, like the remains of a deodorising solution used to clean the room before.
The chairs were rather comfortable with little wheels on the bottom so we could manoeuver around.
On our side of the room Noah, Saha, another student council member and I sat, there was an empty seat on our side. Our side of the table was practically empty.
On the other side of the room, Mackenzie, William, two students I haven't seen before and a student council member sat with piles of paper strewn in front of them.
It's pretty obvious who was better prepared.
At the end of the table, Maia, Caleb and a teacher sat.
Caleb stood up and read something out from the thick, stapled sheets of paper he was holding. His posture was strong and confident, taking control of the room.
"We shall start the discussion."
He ruffled through some pages and folded the pile of paper on one specific page. Maia who was beside him, sitting down, had a pen out and a large sheet with lots of checkboxes and specifications on it. She was preparing to take notes as Caleb was speaking.
I didn't prepare anything for the meeting nor did I really want to be here. I just wanted to get this over and done with so I could go back to my dorm.

"William, please state your side of the story."
William stood up holding a densely covered sheet of paper. He suddenly cleared his voice and began speaking.
"On Sunday, Mackenzie and I were on our way to speak to Noah. Then, out of nowhere, Saha came up to us saying that we weren't allowed to speak with Noah. I tried to get around her but then she tripped me over and started kicking me. At that point, Mackenzie came over and helped me by pushing her to the ground. Saha then started pulling her hair which caused Mackenzie to head-butt her forehead in order to stop her."
It was rather interesting to hear what had supposedly occurred. Neither I nor Noah had been informed of much of the details before this. The story seemed to make sense till here, I couldn't sense any major inconsistencies.
Maia was jotting down notes before she suddenly stood up. She seemed surprised by something.
"That's enough for now, Saha, what's you're side of the story?"
Saha suddenly stood up, I could see that her arms were shaking, causing a slight vibration on our side of the table. She did not have anything physically prepared. I was somewhat intrigued to see what she had to say.
She took a deep breath.
"William was trying to sabotage Noah in the external olympiad competition."
Maia looked down at her notes and confirmed that the external olympiad was in fact happening on that day.
"When I asked them to leave, he suddenly started charging at me. I was preparing myself for an impact when he suddenly did a little twirl around me. It was at that point when I jolted and accidentally stuck my leg out causing him to fall over. He then tried to kick me from the ground which resulted in me kicking him in self-defence. Then Mackenzie tackled me to the ground."

Saha sat back down.
Her story would've made perfect sense to anyone else, but I knew there were several lies sneakily hidden in. She was unusually confident and fluent with what she was saying despite not having any physical preparations in front of her. Her phrasing was a very subtle trap.
Both sides had a student council representative who was helping them, similar to a lawyer.
William's representative stood up with a few questions written on the page in front of him, he turned and faced Saha.
"How did you know they were going to Noah anyways, also do you have any evidence that they were going to sabotage him?"
This was the thing. They had been caught in her trap.
Saha stood up to respond to the representative.
"Noah was the only person in the room, the hall was a dead-end aside from that room, meaning they could've only been going to him. Just by entering the room, they would've caused Noah to be disqualified."
The room suddenly fell silent. Both sides were thinking of things to say.
The whirling sound of the air conditioner suddenly filled the room. The was some rustling of paper from of the attendants.
After a little while, our representative stood up.
Their representative spoke once again.
"You claimed to have kicked him in self-defence, how could he still have been a threat on the ground?"
Our defence then stood up to counter the statement.
"It was stated that William tried to kick Saha even when she was on the ground, that is enough grounds for it to be deemed self-defence. What's more, Mackenzie tackled her to the ground and even headbutted her, that is much less justifiable."
How foolish these people were.
I couldn't tell if the captains had noticed it yet, but it was very clear to me.
All of this was a setup.
Even though I wasn't there to witness it, Saha's words alone were enough to convince me.
"We will be receiving permission to access the security camera's data tomorrow, do we wish to wait until then or should we decide the result now?" Caleb announced.
The security camera data wasn't going to change anything unless William's side realised what they were doing wrong.
They had all fallen into the trap like innocent little bunny rabbits.
How foolish they were.
