《There's a Hero in the Kingdom》Update - Not a Chapter

While I've felt the last few chapters are good enough for release and critique here, they've also been a bit of a slog to write out. The same goes for Chapter 15 which I intended to release today, June 18th. After some consideration, I've decided Chapter 15 is not ready as it doesn't meet my standard just yet. In short, no chapter this week.
I'm going to be taking a short break for the next week to recharge, as I realized that I've been working on There's a Hero here for the last five or six months straight without any real long term break. I'll be away from the keyboard, so no chapter next week either. I intend to be back in two weeks with a better version of Chapter 15 than what I have right now, so please look forward to it.
I also wanted to take a moment to thank everyone that has taken the time to read even one chapter of There's a Hero. Just knowing that for even a short bit that something I wrote was a) worthy of being read and b) entertaining enough to read (at least I hope it is) alone has brought me a certain degree of satisfaction. I hope you all can continue to find those things as I keep adding more to There's a Hero in the future. We're actually pretty close to the end of what I consider the first arc.
I also want to throw a bone to my side projects. These I work on sporadically to get through small boughts of writer's block as I've worked on There's a Hero. Consider checking them out if you haven't already to tide you over during this small hiatus here.

Clean Slate
Humanity ignored the warning and the world came crashing down in a wave of purple madness. Desmond Slattery was one of the few that survived the initial destruction of the apocalypse. He watched from safety as the population mutated and turned on each other. Peaceful animals also transformed into monsters with claws and blood covered fangs. The world became fantasy. But just as they caused death, the changes kept Desmond Slattery alive. Without them he would not have made it through his first civilization ending event. If he wanted to stay alive he was going to have to get stronger. He was going to have to level up, post-apocalyptic RPG style, and there are no extra lives.
