《The Prophet's Ascension》Chapter 13 - The Stalker In The Night

In the silence of the night, she finds herself waking up on a sound coming from behind the stone wall. At first, she thought it was just her imagination. It could be the wind, and there were many broken walls that the wind might be just tricking her as it passed through the ruins. Or perhaps she was tricking her own self that they're being lurked.
But she was wrong, what was outside was real. And it was slowly moving towards them as carefully as someone could be. Nefaaya turned left and as she did the wooden floorboards noisily creaked beneath her. The movement stopped. Thinking, perhaps. But it refused to be frightened by the sound she had made. The footfall moved closer, so close that she thought that her heartbeat might be heard from the other side of the wall.
Who is this? Are they part of those who burn this village? She asked as she became rooted. Entering the Creation wasn't a choice since the moment she'll do so, the Pieces would surround her and the enemy would know that there were people here... or do they already know that they're here?
The only solution to knowing this person was by surprise, Nefaaya was sure that the person was aiming for the window beside her.
The sound of soft footsteps became much louder despite the burned grass masking it. The moon outside, reveals the slanting shadow of the mystery walking towards her, a man, moving closer and closer. The wind picked up and the shadows stopped.
When he peeked, I'll jump on him and crush him with my fist, she thought angrily.
She felt eyes bore into her.
She opened her eyes, the man was too shocked to do anything. Wait, was he too small for what she had been thinking? Nefaaya shouted and lurched forward towards the ma— a boy?
She had intended to grab him and pulled him inside but the boy, to her surprise, dodged her. She had ended up grabbing the air as she jumped forward, throwing herself outside. Nefaaya crashed on the ashen ground, grunting in pain. Inside she heard Reaneril's confused voice asking about breakfast?
What the fuck? she thought as she searched for the boy in the darkness.
She saw him running as fast as he could away from the house. Above, the moon was unveiled, revealing the boy wearing a rugged brown shirt and black shorts. Nefaaya Merge with the Creation, bright colors blinded her on all sides, moving like fire and waving like seaweeds. But she cannot mistake a human inside the Creation, as human was the only thing in this state who radiates in so many colors. Their visitor was mostly in gold light flecked by blue and green light.
Nefaaya touched the Flow, Pulling the ground and locking it on the boy's feet. As she moved closer, she surrounded the boy's body with rocks, locking him to where he was standing.
Only did she stop when Renaeril shouted from behind.
"Nefaaya!" he started. "He's not an enemy."

She closed her eyes, the colors around her turned dull, but still she could feel the dizziness that she always felt when she was seeing the Creation. It was still dark, and the moons was once again veiled by the dark clouds from above.
Renaeril ran, passing her as he headed where the boy was. He touched the rock that caged the boy's body. It broke, Blue Pieces burst around him, scaring the darkness away from them. Renaeril tried to grab the boy before he fell. But the other one pushed him, before he could even touch any of his skin. Her friend stepped backwards while their mysterious visitor fell to the ground.
"He's not?" Nefaaya asked, annoyed about the attitude shown to them.
"Ettran," Renaeril said. "I'm Renaer-"
"Of course I know you," Ettran hissed, his face to the ground. "And the foul-mouthed brat."
Nefaaya blinked in surprise, repeating the words in her mind. "Wow," was all she had managed to say.
"Okay," Renaeril crouched. "For now let us all rest, we will talk about this tomorrow when all of us have calmed down."
Renaeril reached his hand to the boy. Nefaaya wasn't expecting that he would accept it. When she turned to look at them, Nefaaya almost froze on seeing the burn on the left side of his face. From his forehead and crossing on the skin around his eyes and stopped halfway through his cheek. She had expected that it was an old one, but upon further inspection revealed that the scar was new. A scar that he had received in the aftermath of the events that had taken place in the village.
The boy looked up and glared at her. Nefaaya immediately turned and walked towards the house. Renaeril lit the woods before he returned to his sleep as if nothing had happened. While Ettran sat away from the fire...
He was afraid of it, she thought.
"Just picked a place there," Renaeril said before he drifted back to sleep.
Nefaaya put her back on the wall close to the window. The wound, she thought needed to be treated.
"Don't you want me to treat your... wounds?" She asked concealed in the shadow.
Ettran turned at her, the dancing fire before them had made his blue eyes glinted fiercely.
"If you phrase it that way, it is as if you don't want to do it," he said.
Nefaaya wondered what his problem was. And what's her problem at getting annoyed at a kid, eight years ago in her world she would let it pass if someone talked to her like that. But here in this world, as she stays longer on the body of a child, the more she acts and thinks like a child.
She wanted to retort something feisty but she knew it wasn't right, the adult in her told her. Instead she sighed and asked once again.
"Do you want me to treat your wounds?"
He looked at her and Nefaaya figured out that the boy was testing her. Ettran nodded.

Nefaaya stood and gestured for him to go to the window. He followed, floor creaking as he made his way and leaned on the windowsill.
Nefaaya looked at the wound on his face, based on her judgment it wasn't deep but she was sure it would leave a scar on his face permanently. Upon closer inspection she saw that the wound had ash on them!
She Merge with the Creation. Nefaaya raised her hand and Pulled water. She flicked her hand, gesturing the water to run over his face. Ettran hissed and his small hand tightened on the sill as the water drove out the dirt and ash on it.
"I think it's enough."
Nefaaya put her hands away and said, "let's find a real medicine somewhere tomorrow, a grass with healing capabilities perhaps."
She moved back to her place, she watched the fire crackled for some more time before she turned her back to it. She was engulfed immediately in the arms of sleep.
This time Nefaaya dreamed, and she knew she was in a dream. The place was dark and dank, heavy with something that she couldn't explain. From a far she could hear the sound of splashing water as it dripped on the pools of water below. To where this rain and pools of water was Nefaaya didn't know.
Before long she found herself in a hallway, with a series of red doors on either side of her. Every meter she would find herself facing two doors on either side. But there was no real hallway, she knew the door was attached, but to where it was she couldn't fathom. It looked as if she and the door were all suspended in the darkness. She thought skeptically how long the force that holds the hallway could last. She looked down and gulped as she realized that she could fall from here.
The golden knobs attached on each door were alluring, attracting almost as if it was wishing to be touched by her.
Touching it would not do anything wrong, she thought and leaned her face towards the glinting knob. How does it glint inside this vacuum? She didn't know.
She expects to see her reflection... but to her surprise there was none to see. She immediately turned away walking straight, trying to remove the existence of the door on her mind.
She walked aimlessly towards the hallway, until she found a door blocking her path. This door has the same feature that the others have. Without a hesitation Nefaaya touched the knob, its cold surface chilled her. Slowly and with care she turned it, the knob clicked and creaked as she opened it.
She finds herself atop of a hill, at her back a forest of trees with white trunks and golden leaves. And below the hill, a city with buildings made of whitewashed walls and blue roofs could be seen. It was surrounded by a green glinting wall. Somewhere at the center of the city, was a gleaming citadel. Its walls glinting under the sun. Tall spires with written High Li'lian rose on every side. Tower bells surround the city, tolling but for whom it tolls she didn't know.
She heard footsteps walking towards her, Nefaaya looked back and saw a dark skinned man with emerald eyes, more green than she had ever seen. His features are angular and sharp with high cheekbones and long sky-blue lashes as light blue as his braided long hair.
The man was wore clothes that she hadn't seen before. It was a black robe made of stiff materials. Its sleeves were cut, showing his corded shoulders. Black and gold laces wrapped around his wrist and ending just below his elbow. The robe was fastened by a belt. Below he wore a white pair of boots.
The man was tall and almost intimidating if he wasn't smiling kindly. But there was no warmth in it. A smile you only do to calm someone.
He stood beside her, crossing his arms as if he too was also observing the spanning city below .
Finally Nefaaya had managed to find her voice, "are you...the Eye who talked to me last time."
A wind blew in their direction, his long hair swayed in the wind.
"You could say that," he said. "That eye was the manifestation of the Creation's belief. They called it Eye Of Ekrath."
Nefaaya turned back at the city as she spoke, "then this one was your true form."
The man laughed huskily, "no, it isn't my true form. It is a form that was given to me in another world... In every world I have a name and different form. The people of that world called me Rulesis, Ruler of Oceans, Creator of Storms and Patrons of Sailors. But those things don't concern you, because that world is also facing its own problems."
"In this world, I am the monotheistic divine-being called Ekrath, a giant they had believed had thrown his eyes and from it life spurred. All life."
Nefaaya gulped, "last time you said that we would meet again... and that I would do your bidding."
"Yes," he said. "Even if you don't want it, the Great Flow would bring you on the path that it decided would be beneficial for this world."
Nefaaya stayed silent. She didn't know what she wanted to say about the Supreme Being of this world. In her previous life, she had always rejected the idea that those things exist. But standing before someone who was the closest to a Supreme Being her tongue became tied.
"I want you to go to this city," the man said firmly. "You would find something there that you would need."
She blinked and was about to say that she intended to see her father. But the Eye raised his hand and touched her forehead. She opened her eyes on the blinding light of the sun creeping on her face. Beside her the two boys were still sleeping.

But surrounded by creatures he thought only existed in tales and pressed by the Empire’s constant expansion, Jayce’s safety may be only an illusion. To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps in the editing and rewriting process. Check out my other story Shattered Mind here
