《Warfare Between Lost Hearts》Episode Three: Unconscious

It has been a week since Keisha became cataleptic of the torment she went through. In other words, she was in comatose and under observation of Cipher’s (Base 2) medics. Zhackary was one of the caretakers here, and most probably in charge of Keisha’s full recovery. A lot of apparatuses were attached to the girl’s body; all to help them know if she’s still breathing and alive.
Not a little while, Zhackary sat down next to her and cried. He then held her cold hand as he gazed at her closed eyes. Filled himself with hope, he smiled as he gave warmth to her lifeless being.
“Hey… When will you wake up, dude?”
The only response that she could give at the moment was nothing… Yes, absolutely nothing. The only sound that a passed-out girl could give was her inert outbreaths. The beeping of the cardiac monitor also filled the room. At the same time, his mind kept on crying for hope of bringing her back to life.
“Just… tell me if you’re ready, ight? I’m literally trying my best just to get you back. So… Hang on, okay?”
All of a sudden, the room went colder; a breeze kissed his very cheek. He looked back to check what had happened. And afterwards, he smiled followed by a blissful giggle.
“Are you kidding me Keish? I know that it’s you.”
The alarming beeps got his attention, which indicated that Keisha was losing oxygen. Elongated beeps filled his earlobes that the only thing he could do quickly was run and call his co-medics for help. His minute smiles turned into tears – tears of dread and distress of losing the most important person in his life.
“No… No, no… Hang in there, Keish! Rhianna! Shino! Help me out please!”, he hollered on the hallways from outside the room and his words echoed further and further.
Right on time after he hollered, the two whom he called came in ready as if they already know what to do.
“We are losing her, Zhack. Do a quick CPR and let’s see if we can revive her with that.”, said Rhianna, wearing the rubber gloves coming from the pockets of her lab coat. The light shone against the rims of her eyeglasses as she hovered towards a wooden cabinet on the other side of the room. Her little hand gently grabbed a vial then raised it to the air and said, “If anything bad happens, I bet a bit of adrenaline would work.”
With her non-hesitant command, the lad followed. Zhackary’s hands were terribly shaking and he could not even barely breathe out of mere fright. Rhianna understood his situation wherein she was aware that he wanted Keisha alive – not lying down in her motionless form. She patted his back, telling him that they could save her; if and only if they were going to do something to get her back.
“Hey, Z. We can do this, okay? We will wake her up”, Rhianna smiled at him optimistically but changed moods after hearing his word afterwards.

“What I am doing right now doesn’t help her recover. We need a faster way to revive her.”
Rhianna looked at him in trepidation, as if she had not done something impractical as what Zhackary’s pertaining to. Electrocuting a dying person was in a 50:50 ratio on bringing them back to life.
“Don’t look at me like that, Rhi. Do something!”, Zhackary exclaimed because he didn’t know what to do. Every part of him was trembling out of fear; cold hands, teeth chattering endlessly, heart rapidly beating, and a foggy and polluted mind.
Rhianna felt the same thing as what Zhackary was feeling, and suddenly stared at a blank space, not being able to stop Keisha from dying. “There’s no way I’m gonna electrocute Keisha! I might kill her!”
Out of nowhere, their other companion that had been silent for a couple o’ minutes bulged in. Shino, Rhianna’s co-worker in the paramedics and the silent saviour of all time then lugged the defibrillator that lies on the other side of the clinic.
“Quit whining, you two. We’re gonna lose her if we don’t do something to get her back”, his tone of annoyance woken up the blackened people staring into the void.
He opened up the med dress Keisha was wearing then charged the defibrillator up to 360 joules. Before he could begin with the process he’s into, he took a quick turn at his friends and let out a sigh of tenseness.
“Keisha, please wake up”, Shino muttered as he held the equipment carefully within his hands. A second after, he spoke, “Clear!”
Both Rhianna and Zhackary responded as they snapped out from minutes of blackout, “Clear!”
The metal was in full power at that time when it contacted the goner little woman’s chest. The shock made Keisha bounce up and down from her hospital bed yet still was unconscious after all those volts electrocuted her. Shino turned up the machine the second time; afterwards, he did the same method from the first attempt.
All became silent. Not a word nor a sigh after this heart-stopping phenomenon. The lines from the digital monitor moved rapidly again – knowing that the shock brought her back to life. Beeping from the same machine came back to its normal pattern again.
Shino sat down with a matching sigh, wiping his sweat from his face with his snow-white sleeves, “Welp, Shino saves the day. Again. Feels like I’m the caretaker of the siblings though.”
Rhianna rolled her eyes in timidity after seeing Shino’s proud aura. She even got the guts to mock his sigh before she could give a word contradicting him.
“You’re just lucky, doofus. You hesitated too.”
The profoundly excited man changed his mood at a fast pace when he heard the four-eyed girl got intimidated by his savior-like verdicts. He fixed his sitting position while his eyebrows were gradually crossing.
“I ain’t. I just did what needed to be done.”
Rhianna faked her chuckling and she sounded a bit furious after what he did to Keisha, “Oh, really? You can just tell me what to do and I could’ve just done it.”

Shino widened his eyes out of confusion, already thought that Rhianna was being unnecessarily jealous of his quick retort, “What?! Seriously? I did that ‘cause I thought you can’t do it.” He then whispered with a lady-like tone, attempting to do an impression of her, followed by a ‘double quote gesture in the air, “Ya even said, ‘There’s no way I’m gonna electrocute Keisha’.”
Rhianna flustered in guilt, her lips pouting like Pinocchio’s lies, “I haven’t said that! Do shut the fuck up, Shino. You’re not helping!”
Shino then raised up a voice recorder that he had been holding a couple of minutes ago; played it and the voice of the Megane-san came in filling the room of the unconscious gal.
“There’s no way I’m gonna electrocute Keisha. I might kill her!”
Rhianna turned red in embarrassment and bursted out a balloon. Her grunts were child-like as if a candy corn was taken away from her. Inside her mind was an eternal set of cussing against Shino’s confident ass.
“Where the heck did you get that shit?”
Shino just smirked at her, showing the dimple from his left cheek, “From you.”
“Take that away! Okay? You win”, infuriatingly yelled by Rhianna, taking the tape recorder from the tall one’s hand.
“Hey, take it easy. Why are you mad all of a sudden?”, Shino told her, aware of her reactions. He loved making his best friend angry all the time and stressing her out for no apparent reason at all.
“Nothing… Just… Argh!”, Rhianna’s eyes turned to a lot of directions then out of mere embarrassment, she walked out.
Once the hospital door shut with a loud bang, the two gentlemen burst out their hysterical laughs. The laughter was just so loud that it just didn’t fill the entire room but even the hallways outside. To be frank and through with the shenanigans, they were giggling on Rhianna’s reaction after Shino saved Keisha’s life.
Zhackary snorted as he giggled, his eyes tearing up, he spoke, “Why are you being soooo mean?”
“Dude, ‘em not! Well, get used to it, bro. Rhi’s really been a stubborn girl ever since”, his comrade replied, holding his stomach while his other hand was slamming on his lap.
Zhackary tuned down the conversation; his laughter gradually fading out. He sighed with a joyful smile, “She really cares for Keisha though. I felt that she didn't want to fail in saving her.”
“Hmmm, Keisha’s been treating her as her older sister, right? Since Keisha is the eldest between her and Jaden”, Shino agreed with his giggling also fading out.
“Keisha always wanted to have someone that she’s gonna look up to. She’s been Rhianna’s apprentice ever since and to be honest, she even told me that Rhianna is her best friend yet”, said Zhackary, playing with Keisha’s cotton-soft hair.
There had been a moment of silence before they proceeded to another set of conversation. Shino glanced at his friend who was holding the patient’s hand. He sighed and took another breath to speak again.
“Well, out of our topic. When will Keisha wake up though?”
“Maybe later, or tomorrow, or the next day… soon enough”, Zhackary took pauses as he spoke, unsure of what would possibly happen next but was still positive on Keisha’s awakening.
Shino asked him with a hint of joy on his lips, “You’re really looking forward to it, ight?”
“Yeah. I don’t want her gone. I miss her.”, Zhackary answered back and continued on caressing our main woman’s little hand.
Peace filled the room after he spoke about Keisha. He looked up all of a sudden then realized what he had just told Shino. He quickly became red flushed, trying to defend himself from Shino’s suspicions.
“I.. I-I m-mean… is that… Jaden….. YES. JADEN. I’m thinking about what will happen to Jaden if he finds out that his sister is suffering from this condition.”
Although Shino’s aware of Zhackary’s current feeling, he played the part as if he had forgotten what he just heard from him, “What?! Doesn’t Jaden know about this? ‘Bout Keisha?”
Zhackary let out a long sigh of relief and said, “Exactly. Well, I really don’t know if it’s a good time for him to tell him this. He’s still recovering from that death chase of that lunatic back there.”
“What are your plans now for that cracked former beau that Keisha had?”, the other chap questioned, took off his eyeglasses then cleaned it with a small microfibre cloth.
Non-reluctantly, Zhackary answered with a slam on Keisha’s hospital bed, “I wanna kill him, like I can if I want to. However, there are rules made by the government for the lost juvenile groups.”
“Dude, they already broke the rules! Article 6 Section 92 of New Juvenile Governance says that no one from each base has the right to torment, kill and destroy their fellow juveniles”, informed Shino and paused for a bit to wear his glasses back. “Welp, maybe none of them conforms the rules. Most of them are plain fucking douchebags.”
“Then if that’s the case. We’ll play fair. Not by the rules, but by what he did to Keisha”, Zhackary snapped and stood up from his seat near the sleeping beauty.
Shino raised his right eyebrow at the guy he’s talking to this entire time, a bit against his wishes, “So, you’re gonna head there again just to kidnap Dimaunawa, just like what he did to KC?”
The young lad’s right cheek fattened out of his smirk and distinct grin, “Nah, I have a better plan to execute. It’s for the next three days, I guess.”
He smiled out of optimism after thinking about his new plan to play with the opposite base. He looked at Keisha in a way that he wanted to avenge her. Taking down the top one faction of the New Juvenile Governance would be a challenge for every other existing team, but Zhack’s plan might be their total fiasco.
