《Devour》(44) Chapter 12: Easy or Painful Death?

During the transformation, Jio receives information about the very being of the Dark One and the power its holds. He realized that they defeated the Dark One with mere luck after losing its memory for devouring too much soul. If the Dark One still knew itself, it could easily take the world with ease and make the world his domain; a living hell.
"Smoke Pit of Hell!" Jio shouts, naming his new ability.
Domain: An ability where the user has 100% picture or vision and has complete control of energy or magic within a specific area.
Without warning, black smoke rapidly comes out of Jio's body like a flash flood during heavy rain and spreads around the area, about fifty meters in diameter. While the black smoke stretches like clouds in the sky, Jon morphs into a chain sickle, and the clanging of chains echoes, showing everyone this intimidating display of fear and horror.
The high elder commands everyone to attack since he's outnumbered, but whoever enters Jio's domain affects their vision, movement, and sanity until the magicians cast holy or light magic on them, where they get back to their senses.
Just because they can safely stay inside Jio's domain doesn't mean they're safe as they watch his body fades in the smoke and reappear twenty meters away from the original position, killing a sect member.
When everyone saw Jio teleport within his domain and quickly kill a sect member, everyone inside panicked and tried to get out, only to find themselves staring straight at a sickle's tip pointing in between their eyes.
*His weapon can also teleport?* One of the elders thought as he deflected Jio's attack and watched mostly everyone inside the domain die instantly.
Any sect member who successfully exited the domain finds themselves getting chased by a sickle connected to a chain extending beyond Jio's black smoke domain. With the domain made out of Dark Magic, anyone with contaminated injuries will experience extreme pain from Jio's Dark Magic's severe corrosion properties.

In reality, Jio can not teleport but somehow materialize half of his body into black smoke, making it easy to cross around his domain. Jio's soul weapon can not teleport but has the connection within the domain is like part of his body, making it manageable for him to control Jon easily even it's all over the place.
Experienced holy or light magicians manage to survive since they can purify dark magic corrosion and the lingering black smoke around the domain. The sect magicians don't mind the domain since it affects the monster like a double-edged sword until they realize that Jio could control the dark magic's properties at will like a Dark Magus rank magician.
Leaving Jio alone in the middle of the black smoke abyss, the sect elder commands everyone to wait and focus on a different target.
"You don't want to play anymore?" Jio grins and lets out as he tries to move his domain, only to realize he doesn't have that capability yet.
Jio put Jon back together to a single chain to extend beyond his domain, killing sect members outside. He also realized his body slowly absorbed the black smoke he released earlier after the five-minute mark and estimated everything to return to his body in ten minutes.
Everyone knows that Jio has the highest killstreak, and most of it comes when his domain is activated. With Jio's ghostly figure and a small amount of black smoke around his body, he quickly supports Bm by attacking anyone who comes charging to cause her harm.
Jio looks around while Jon morphs into a scythe and immediately kills the person closest to him, sending a message that he is a ruthless human and no one can stop him.
When Bm looks behind her, she sees sect members screaming in agony after losing their limbs, and the Dark Magic's corrosion is slowly eating their bodies as they go insane.

Bm is worried for a brief moment after she witnesses Jio's transformation. When the Dark Magic surges from his body, like how the Dark One killed her master and how that magic affects a living being, into insanity. She relaxes and calms down after Jio shows complete control of the Dark Magic.
Jio knows that Bm is watching him, and she knows that he knows.
The sect members try their best to cast everything they got to stop Bm after realizing that she's targeting sect magicians, but no matter what magic spell she faces, she ends up unscathed and unharmed with no sign of stopping. Bm's skin doesn't need to change like a regular Gecko since she obtained the King Slime's core, which gives her the ability to control every inch of her body willingly.
The sect leader can't believe what Jio just did and wonder how Jio didn't lose control or go insane, not even a single beat. The intelligence that the sect gathered is unreliable since all the monsters fighting back seem to be five times stronger than the reports state and don't have any information about Jio and Bm's existence.
The sect leader tries his best to reach Sierra, but Alexander is in his way and still fighting like a raging bull that never gets tired.
Luckily for the sect leader, he kept enough Grade Three to Five Earth Magic Stone in his universal bag for today's invasion. He summons twenty regular golems and five advance golems to deal with Alexander. Even though Alexander can quickly destroy two normal golems in just a swing of his greatsword, the sect leader only needs one chance to strike a fatal blow to Alexander. He can easily make more golems until he uses all his Magic Stones.
The golems spontaneously attack Alexander like an endless stream of water, but he effortlessly blasts what comes in his way.
Alexander and the Twelve Elites smoothly defended their position until one advanced golem parried Alexander's greatsword, and the sect leader suddenly came out of the ground behind him. This never failed the sect leader, but Alexander's body quickly produces energy that deflects his sword.
In Alexander's eyes, everything slows down, giving him time to react and see the bigger picture. He uses his greatsword like how Jio used his weapon and stabbed the sect leader's chest.
The sect leader's face turns pale, and he pours his remaining strength into casting a spell. Two giant hands beside Alexander's and grabbed him like a kid catching a firefly.
Alexander knows that the spell can't hurt him and let it grab him to show the sect leader that all his effort is useless and this invasion is over. As soon as he destroys the hands, Alexander realizes that the sect leader's body is made out of dirt, and it's a decoy as the horror-struck.
Quickly looking in Sierra's direction, he saw the sect leader's real body emerge from the ground, stabbing Sierra in the back. Alexander throws his greatsword, impaling the sect leader's body to the ground. He coughs a mouthful of blood and notices Sierra doesn't bleed at all, but warm magic like pure energy leaks out from her wounds with a hint of healing.
The sect leader will not accept defeat, and if he's going down, he makes sure everyone goes down with him. He takes a small knife and stabs himself, catching Jio's and Bm's attention after a sudden surge of blood magic since it's the same blood sacrifice artifact that the Blood Moon Cult used to suicide.
Alexander fails to keep his promise once again.

Some mortals see dungeons as a plague to destroy. Some mortals see dungeons as a resource to manage and harvest. Some mortals see dungeons as a place to train and advance. However, all of them agree on something. Dungeons are unnatural and deadly. Places where death stalks every corner and monsters thrive. What mortals forget, in their hubris of tools and civilizations, is that Mother Nature is often the deadliest of all. Feel free to write any comment, suggestion, or criticism. I read and appreciate every single one! Releases are on Mondays and Thursdays. With occasional bonus chapters on Saturdays. Have a nice day ^^

Summoned against his will to a world of swords and magic, an engineering student struggles to find a way home under the shadow of a world devouring threat. ***************************** Updates: 5/13/19: Revisions to several chapters for clarity, grammar, and style. 4/29/19: A short side story and artwork has been added to the blog. 4/8/19: A Side Story has been updated on my new blog (every writer is required to have one). https://talesfromliahar.wordpress.com/ ***************************** “The summoning scenarios are broken down into groups of ten.” Emi Ito stated. “Don’t, don’t you dare say another word.” Muttered Genzo Uchida. His eyes had turned bloodshot and his hands shook with rage. “The first thirty…” “Shut up!” Genzo bellowed “How dare you help these disrespectful gaijin?” Flecks of spit and madness flew from his face, his fist raised ready to strike. But Emi did not flinch, instead she was about ready to continue when Yuma Takeuchi interrupted her. “Uchida, please,” her sweet sounding words could melt ice. “I think we will have a better chance of getting home if we all work together.” When she glanced up with her sleepy looking eyes at Genzo Uchida he deflated visibly. “Were not getting home.” Uchida said coolly. “Group summoning, large, that puts us in the 60 series. No one came to greet us after five minutes of arrival. That leaves scenarios 68 and 69. In scenario 68 there is something that binds the large group together; they are all classmates or a single family. But thanks to the gaijin” he spit out the word “I think we are scenario 69 with no way home.” Ikko Inoue’s eyes went wide, while Katsukno and Hayata started muttering to themselves. Tim took on a serious look and rubbed his scruffy chin. Emi maintained her stoic expression while trying to find something to refute. McKenzie glanced at Randall and giggled. Randall took the prompting of his teammate and followed up by approaching Genzo. “Uh, so we are in a sixty-nine?” “Yes.” Replied Genzo with the seriousness of someone who’s life was about to end. McKenzie covered her mouth and snickered. “You and me, were stuck in a sixty-nine situation?” Randall pushed with a grin. “Yes, we are all stuck in a sixty-nine scenario together!” Genzo retorted in anger. McKenzie fell on her butt laughing. “What the hell is so funny?” Demanded Genzo, whose face had turned red. “It’s a problem with the automatic translation.” Retorted Tim. Randall, who seemed unable to quit started in again “So, about this sixty-ni…” Genzo interrupted Randall with a swift punch to the face. But, because of their height difference it was a bit of an uppercut that left Randall rattled. Tim and Ikko moved to step in between the two, but Genzo showed no further hostility. Instead he just stared at his clenched fist with such intensity it grabbed the attention of the room. “I unlocked a skill.” He said bluntly. ***************************** This is not a light novel, but people who like light novels should enjoy the themes of this book. ***************************** A Map of the Region
