《Devour》(38) Chapter 6: Alexander, The Human

The twins and Sierra watch the second fight while the Ancient requests Jio and Bm's presence next door to talk about the upcoming human invasion that would cause countless death that the Ancient foreseen in the past.
The end, the beginning, the end, and the beginning.
"It's nice to see you two, but at the same time... My days are numbered," the Ancient said, smiling, and the two noticed the sadness deep within his eyes.
"What do you mean by that?" Jio promptly asks without minding the Ancient's status.
"Show some respect!" Bm demands as she pinches Jio's belly.
"It's okay; it's okay," the Ancient let out smiling and let out, "Like what I said, my days are numbered, and I only have on request."
"Anything!" Bm answers without hesitation and pinches Jio again in the arm for him to bow his head with her.
Laughing while watching the two, "I want you two to protect my precious Sierra for me and respect her decisions when the time comes."
"Consider it done, Ancient One!" Bm confirmed while Jio nodded.
*Sounds like he knows every detail of that future...* Jio thought and disregarded this absurd idea.
Page the Slolocene finds himself in trouble in the arena since he fights someone with wings. An owl head with a human body and wings covered with colorful feathers; is also called the Dowler Kind that causes double vision to anyone who stares at them long enough.
The fight seems to favor the Dowler Kind since she flies, and every time Page tries to hit his opponent, he only hits an empty air, and the Dowler would land an attack or two. Dowler is also known for weakening and slowly killing their prey like what she is doing with Page. The fight might not be as grand as the previous one; everyone expects a miracle or something to make the battle more interesting.

Page knows how Dowler fights, but it's his first time-fighting one, and he tries to find a pattern. He also notices that the Dowler releases this golden dust scale that messes with his eyesight and misses her when he attacks or attempts to catch any part of her body.
Dropping in the ground, the Dowler slowly approaches Page to finish the job, only to realize that Page planned to sustain enough damage to look weak and injured to lower her defense. Trying to fly away, Page holds the Dowler's leg tight without letting go no matter what the Dowler does.
Page starts to slam the Dowler to the ground while everyone cheers to witness the action they hope for after watching the Dowler fights. Releasing a ridiculous amount of dust scales covering the whole arena, the Dowler escapes Page's grasp and starts to fly, circling above the disoriented Page.
The Dowler sustained enough damage that if she did not finish Page, she would eventually lose from exhaustion, and she knows that Page can last longer. With determination in her eyes and countless night practicing to win this match and in the future, while she watches, Page throws his fist in the air, hoping to hit something.
The Dowler folds her wings, falling in great speed to swoop down on Page from above. As the Dowler reaches Page's range, her vision turns blank and passes out without knowing what happened.
"What a Fight! No one sees that coming! Page wins this fight!" The announcer let out and continued, "This is 10th time winning this year! What a fighter."
Back in the room,
"How did he do it?" Moon let out, thinking out loud.
"The dust is too thick for Page to see," Sun added.
"I remember him getting trained by my old friend Subterrane," The ancient answers.

"Subterrane?" Sun looks at The Ancient and asks.
"It's a Monster kind that looks like Slolocene but lives underground like mole and has the ability to dig deeper than any living creature of this world and sensitive to vibration," The Ancient explains what Subterrane is to the twins.
"ARE YOU READY TO WITNESS THE FIRST HUMAN WHO CHALLENGES US MONSTERS HERE IN OUR TERRITORY!" The announcer suddenly announced that caught everyone's attention. The announcer is a Hoxx with a red furry body, Ox horns, sharp teeth, and bat wings with familiar bloodlust in his eyes, wanting to kill after the words comes out of his mouth.
The Dome starts to ramble when every monster stamps its feet after the announcer's statements while they roar in anger and excitement. The human begins to walk in the center, making the Dome fall in silence, causing everyone to goosebumps that allow the human to speak.
"I, Alexander, will show that I'm worthy of being on Sierra's side, and if possible I... I want to do it forever till death!" Alexander, the human, declares with a great sword in his hand.
Everyone stood up protesting, wanting to teach Alexander a lesson but unable to as a sign of respect to the rules that The Ancient passed a long time ago.
"I don't mind everyone attacking Alexander!" the Ancient said all of a sudden that caused everyone in the Dome to run towards Alexander to fight him.
"Father!" Sierra immediately protests after hearing what The Ancient said since she knows the human who challenged everyone to prove his worth.
"I'm sorry, my dear little fairy... But I need to make sure he can protect you," The Ancient apologies and smiles at Sierra.
"...." Sierra can't say a word since she also keeps this a secret from her father.
"Tell me, Sierra, do you like Alexander?" The Ancient asked while Sierra hesitated to say a word but eventually said, "What if I like him!?"
"Oh, Sierra... I have been protecting you for hundreds of years, and I think it's that time," The Ancient let out.
"What do you mean?" Sierra asks, looking concerned at her father.
"Oh, it's nothing. Do you want to cheer Alexander?" The Ancient asks.
She nodded, and the Ancient placed his hand in Sierra's head, giving her the ability to telepathically talk to Alexander, making her happy and blush since her secret is out in the open.
Alexander readied himself with his greatsword, and when he heard Sierra in his mind, he smiled and looked towards Sierra even he couldn't see her. He dashes at Sierra's location and starts fighting anyone in front of him.

There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
