《I Am A Demon Lord, Get Me Out Of Here》Chapter 11: Exit
Advertisement
There Zurka stood, towering over us. The tall brolic knight lifted his pole hammer up and swung it down with power rivaling a high-orc.
We fell back, and where we stood, a large crater was created from the impact of his strike.
What is this??? Why is this human so strong?
[Zurka: "What? Afraid?!"]
["As if!"]
["O fatum flammarum perdere inimicis"]
A big ball of fire is shot from the palm of my hand.
The ball of fire flys with immense speed towards Zurka and hits the right side of his helmet, knocking his head to the side.
A muffled grunt exits from the knight.
Quick! I have to use the second in which he is startled to inflict critical damage!
I grab *Externish* with both hands and start to channel my mana through my muscles and into the blade.
I can feel my muscles condensing and bulking. The previously dark-greyish blade of *Externish* turns black, littered with fiery cracks and lines.
With lightning speed, I swing the ashen blade into Zurkas upper body. Blood gushes out from the large cut that formed on the knight's chest. Zurka falls onto his knees, holding himself upright with his pole hammer.
[Zurka: "Ughhh... I didn't expect you to have this kind of firepower left..."]
["Too bad for you! Alright, gotta go!"]
I place *Externish* at the steel rods, making up the gate, and begin slowly cutting through them.
I turn my head to look after Auru and Grinla. Luckily they don't seem to have any problems repressing the soldier's attacks.
After a few minutes, I had already cut a decently sized hole into the city gate.
["Alright then! It's time for us to go!"]
Auru and Grinla nod as we exit through the hole. Finally, Grinla blocks the way of the soldiers with a large earth wall.

After a while of running, Auru raises her voice:
[Auru: "So what was that about Ignatius?"]
["Uhm, you see... I was once called Ignatius, the Demon Lord, but Lucius betrayed me and started a war."]
Yeah. Let's go with this for now.
[Auru: "But I heard that the war began before Lucius was elected the Demon Lord."]
["Nonono. This is what they want you to believe."]
Yeah. I am such a great liar.
[Auru: "So you're telling me you didn't want a war? Then why didn't you stop it?"]
["Well, as you can see... I am in a rather pathetic form right now, so we are gathering the remnants of my lost power..."]
That isn't even a lie.
[Auru: "And you expect me to believe this?"]
["Well, yes, to be honest."]
[Grinla: "What my lord is saying is true. I saw it with my own eyes."]
Good one, Grinla! You're gonna get a raise! Oh, wait... I don't even pay you.
[Auru: "Ugh, alright. Fine, I believe you."]
["Alright then! Let's continue to *Nirva-Forest*!"]
Before us, there lays a deep, mystical forest. The Trees reach far higher than anywhere else on Va'an. (Va'an refers to the world they live in.) On the ground, there grow mushrooms which are glowing in all kinds of colors. The chirping of wind elementals can be heard and the wicked laughter of the fairies. There is truly no similar place in this world.
Even though there is an abundance of valuable herbs and fruits growing in the forest, Humans rarely choose to trespass, since the fairies and gnomes are very territorial. This has led to them pulling pranks on travelers and said travelers getting lost in the woods and dying.
There is also the thing ruling the forest people. The supreme earth spirit Gaia. Gaia is also one óf the Iuga Septem. "The Lord of Nature" is what they call her(?).
["Man, I hope those fairies don't approach us, or else I'll have to deal with all of their nonsense."]
[Grinla: "Yes, that would indeed be troublesome."]
[Auru: "Ehehe..."]

Shift (Ben 10+DCU Fanfiction)
Omnitrix+ DCU, what's not to like? The main character will not be Ben Tennyson, rather someone from our world who gains the Omnitrix Hello! This fanfiction Shift is what I wanted to do for an homage to what I thought were underrated pieces of media, Ben 10 and some DCU characters. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t add context to two of the major works that inspired Shift, Dial, and A Practical Guide to Evil. Dial is another ben 10 fanfiction, however that story takes place in the MCU, and with an adult that is already a grown-up at the beginning of the story. Dial, by my own accounts, is more superficially Like shift, even though the Omnitrix is a central device in both. My protagonist starts out around 18 years old, so is less serious and can build relationships with some of the junior justice league members, and then later on in the story meet the Justice League officially. The tone will be more light-hearted at the beginning of the story as teenagers are known to use sarcasm and jokes at each other’s expense. Furthermore, in Dial, the protagonist has a well-developed knowledge of the MCU which he uses to have knowledge on events and characters, that the character in Shift will not have. While the MC will have some knowledge of people's abilities, lesser-known characters and people's real identities will be not included as much, but the MC of Shift will have some knowledge. APGTE's influence is deeper than Dials'. The epigraphs at the beginning of every chapter are an example of that, a place for light-hearted jokes and worldbuilding that's not pure exposition, but I also want to incorporate narrative stories to Shift (heroes win more than lose, providence, etc) on a lighthearted scale. While the heroes of Shift will have to work to win against villains, the MC of Shift will be allowed limited precognition, through narratives tropes and archetypes as a trade-off of less knowledge of the DCU. For example, a villain a hero faces might monologue, but the MC will not instinctively know how to counter every villain they encounter. I also wanted to bring in more realism than usual superhero stories, ie: the MC cannot just walk and have a meeting with Batman or Superman, he would have to “work his way up” in terms of credibility and whatnot. The Aliens that show up in Shift I tried to make different than the ones in Dial, just to share the love for lesser-known characters. And to make it fairer for the villains of the DCU, the main character will not wantonly use if gain at all an Alien X or a ben 10 form of Kryptonians, just so the characters have to work a little bit for victory. I urge anyone reading to consider checking out both APGTE and Dial as they are both amazing works, and I hope you enjoy them. The beginning of how the MC enters the DCU will not be as important as him actually existing in that universe, so that is why a ton of time is not spent on that part of the story. Chapters will be around 2.5 thousand words and come out around every weekday.

Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.
