Chapter 8 Lieutenant Fain
The spacious plaza encompassing the Ketsuga Burger Restaurant was moderately packed with FPD officers. The swarm of authoritative bodies were assessing the scene where the incident involving an unlawful civilian releasing her ass vapours in public and a Fahtier female rebel who brutally assaulted the LAW to rescue her had taken place.
Bay City CN7 newscast was already at the crime scene collecting reports from the multiple eyewitnesses who were dining at the Ketsuga Burger Restaurant. Also, they took statements from the market people who had their wares trampled over by the authorities. These angry peddlers voiced their discontent of the FPD officers’ display of brutality on national television.
Seeing this, the officer in charge of cordoning the crime scene reassured the reporters that it was the rebels who during their escape destroyed most of those vendors’ products and that their department was willing to compensate their losses.
Due to the hectic incident that took place at their plaza, it attracted many people which in terms generated a lot of profit for some establishments present.
Away from the prying eyes of the media, officer Hizen was behind the Ketsuga Burger Restaurant teetering while holding an icepack to his hurting groin. His trusted officers were there keeping the suspect’s accomplice in custody for questioning.
Selene’s best friend, Iyana felt threatened upon seeing the agitated officer staggering towards her with an icy gaze to his countenance. She was being held firmly by Cryson and another nameless officer. The reason from them concealing themselves at the rear of the Ketsuga Burger Restaurant was because they didn’t want the reporters out front prying into their business.
[Thud! Thud!]
“Officer Hizen!” The FPD officers keeping Iyana captive greeted their superior with the utmost respect by saluting.
“At ease.” Officer Hizen went over to a table close to the waterfront where Iyana was being imprisoned in a chair. [Slam!] After reaching the table, he crashed his broad palm onto its varnished surface violently. By doing this he had hoped to intimidate Iyana.
“Eeek!” And officer Hizen’s intimidation did work. Iyana let out a scared scream that lasted only for a brief second while she trembled slightly. “W-what more do you want from me? I already gave you all the information I know about Selene.”

“Yes, most of the information you gave us checks out but…” Officer Hizen removed the icepack from cooling down his hurting groin and slammed it on the table, some of the melted droplets spilt out and splashed into Iyana's face.
At that moment of staring down Iyana, he remembered how the Fahtier rebel violently abused his well-endowed baby maker and spat out angrily: “How is your lawless friend affiliated with the Fahtier rebel organization? Are you also one of their acolytes? You better not lie to me little girl or I swear to god I’ll...!” [Slam! Slam!]
“Eeek!” Iyana gulped down a mouthful of frightful saliva when her ears felt threatened by the loud thumping sound smashing into the table. In her moment of trepidation, she blurted out: “I don’t know anything about no Fahtier organization! If Selene is involved with them somehow then she didn’t tell me anything, alright?”
“Hm?” [Sniff! Sniff!] Officer Hizen used his top-notched smelling prowess to identify whether or not Iyana was telling the truth. His nose was of such superb quality, he could judge the verity of a person by sniffing out the slight intonation of air exuded from their mouth as they speak.
“It seems that you’re not lying.” Officer Hizen relaxed his ominous aura and continued. “However, due to your close relationship with the criminal, I hereby place you under ar…”
“Officer Hizen! Officer Hizen!”
“Hm?” Officer Hizen cut his speech short after hearing a familiar officer shouting his name while rushing towards him.
“Officer Hizen.” [Huff! Huff!] After regaining his breath, the officer said with an ashen expression on his face: “Lieutenant Fain is here!”
“What?” Officer Hizen seemed veritably shaken up after hearing this name. He ran to the forefront of the restaurant to take a look while making sure to conceal himself. “Huh?” His face became twisty as he scowled at the commanding figure he loathed. “Lieutenant Fain…”
A beguiling woman of mature quality; donned in formal wear and professional aura had just torn down a cordon yellow tape strip that was wastefully applied around the exterior of the Ketsuga Burger Restaurant. After garnering the attention of others, she lashed her commanding tongue at the officers. “You and you over there! Stop wasting our time and resources on this redundant crime scene! Who even authorized you to spend so much manpower? Pack it all up right now!”

“But Lieutenant, officer Hizen told us to…” [Slap!] The naïve officer who had just given his breath to Lieutenant Fain’s ears received a healthy palm strike to his jawline.
“Did you just talk back to me, little runt? I said pack it all up now!”
“Forgive me, Lieutenant Fain! We’ll do as you command right away!” The naive officer wearing a livid palm mark on his face, made haste as he instructed the other officers to tidy up the crime scene. [Whoosh! Whoosh!] Very quickly, the FPD officers started retreating from the Ketsuga Burger Restaurant with their fancy equipment.
“Grrr! That damn woman!” Officer Hizen was displeased with seeing his men willingly heeding to Lieutenant Fain’s command. They both had an unpleasant; intimate history. In the past when officer Hizen was Lieutenant colonel of the Bay City Central Fart Police Department, he instructed Lieutenant Fain on how to become an ambitious and prominent officer. He taught her so well, she eventually became a thorn in his side who overthrew his reign of supremacy.
Officer Hizen continued observing Lieutenant Fain while concealing himself. He saw her motioned over to the owner of the Ketsuga Burger Restaurant and engaged him in conversation.
“Excuse me, are you the owner of this establishment?”
“Ahm…” Perceiving the impacting aura exuding from the authoritative woman before him, moreover, hearing the austere commanding tone in her voice, the elderly oriental man replied with a curt bow. “Yes, yes. I own this restaurant, young miss. You may address me as Mojo Jojo. I’m so sorry to have caused you and your officers any trouble.”
“No, no. please don’t say that, my elder.” Lieutenant Fain helped the elderly man raised his head. “I should be the one apologizing for how rudely my officers have behaved. Please accept this token if gratitude to renovate your vandalized establishment.”
“Wow! Thank you! Thank you!” Boss Mojo Jojo’s eyes glistened with currency when he read how many zeros followed by numerous commas was written on the cheque he just received from Lieutenant Fain. The paper was light as a feather, however, Boss Mojo Jojo made it seemed as if he was lifting a heavy load of bricks! If he didn’t hurriedly stash away the cheque in his side pocket, the cumbersome currency would have strained his back. “Oh dear me. I’m too old to be receiving heavy surprises such as this.”
“Boss Mojo Jojo let me take a look.” The incompetent waiter in training reached out his hand toward the owner’s pocket. Boss Mojo Jojo spotted his arm coming and slapped it away. [Twak!]
“You smelly brat! Keep your hands to your side. You haven’t worked here long enough to glance at this currency.”
“Awe, so mean.” The waiter rubbed his hurting hand while complaining.
The newscast from CN7 station was recording when Lieutenant Fain gave the elderly oriental man a cheque as compensation for his damaged establishment, she even passed out currency to the upset vendors from the market place who had their wares trampled over. The viewers watching all over were now reassured that the FPD was a generous organisation who compensated wronged victims for their losses. At times they might appear as overzealous authoritarians who suppressed the public with their overbearing laws but these strict measures were created to maintain their safety. There weren’t any hidden agendas at play, the Societal God’s broadcasted this fact. The law is difficult but it is the law.
Finished cleaning up the mess created by her officers, Lieutenant Fain rounded up her troops and went back to the central precinct. Along her way, she glanced out the vehicle’s window and noticed officer Hizen glaring at her with deadly eyes from the back of his jeep as it drove passed.
“Fhm.” Lieutenant Fain portrayed a wry smirk as she muttered to herself: “You’re still upset that I snatched away your post. Grimace all you want. You will never get it back. This was a decision made by higher-ups after all. You incompetent old fool.” [Whoosh! Whoosh!] She pressed a button on the door and brought up the tinted window.

The Way Ahead
What do you do when you don't fit in? Edwin never really felt many connections to other people, but as a physics student, that was fine. He didn't really need it, anyway. He was content to peel back the mysteries of the universe... not that there were many left to find. Modern-day research was just too well-established, too well-trodden for any single enthusiast to make any significant headway. But that doesn't apply to other worlds. Not ones where magic and Skills run rampant, where well-defined roles and Classes dominate much of society with little room for novel experimentation from its residents. That kind of world would be perfect for an overeager, newly-minted Alchemist to make his mark. Things are never that easy, though. The Way Ahead is a very slice-of-life story following the story of someone trying to find his place in a world that doesn't know what to do with him. Expect lots of science, lots of alchemy, a few sarcastic quips by the System, and lots of exploration involving the world, self-discovery, and above all, science. After all, further research is always required. Updates every other day at 9 AM PST. Congratulations! For writing a story during the month of November, you have unlocked the Royal Road Writathon Participant path!

In The Maw Of The Gods
Synopsis Lilly Harper was always the type to keep to herself. She struggled to make friendships and so, she simply opted not to. That was why moving to the coastal town of Wilham didn’t bother her. She wasn’t leaving anybody behind and she certainly didn’t expect to be making any friends any time soon. However, when she starts hearing about the school’s “Magic Club”—a group of weirdos who claim that magic is real, she can’t deny that she’s slightly intrigued. Then without warning, she suddenly finds herself wrapped up with them. And what if they aren’t crazy? What if magic is actually real? And what if it’s because of that magic that something more powerful than they could ever conceive of is drawn to Wilham? I plan to follow a release schedule of Tuesday/Friday. Average chapter length will be 4,000 to 6,000 words and I will be using multiple POV's quite often. Also to note, while I am flagging the story with content warnings, I am only doing so because there are specific moments where it will be needed. Overall, the story will be relatively tame and I plan to put extra warnings at the beginning of chapters that it applies to. Thank you to everybody who decides to give my story a chance and I hope you enjoy it!
