《Second Chance》Chapter 11: My first challenger… again.

I looked at the demon in front of me.
“Do I only have two options?”
“Yes. You must choose one, and only one.” I began thinking. I reluctantly choose the ladder.
“I’ll take you hell power.”
“Well, that’s a surprise. People never choose the power thing. They always go for luck. And that amount of power is abnormal… Are you thinking of killing God!?” Lucifer laughed.
“Yes, I do.” The Devil stopped laughing and looked at me in sheer shock.
“Seriously!? Jeez, hit me up if you need help.”
“You got it, Lucifer.” I closed my eyes. I heard the last goodbye and I fell backward.
I woke up in Angelo’s car. I had a lingering feeling… like my hands were burned. Angelo looked at them and exclaimed.
“Kid, your arms! They are beet red.” I looked at them too and I saw they were red. Angelo quickly poured cold water on them, but the water was boiled almost immediately. I felt a sharp pain in my elbow. It was also on fire. Angelo resorted to the last possible thing he could. He squeezed the finger he cut over my wound. I felt the blood go into my skin and the pain slowly faded away.
“You better not use that unless you absolutely need to.” Angelo said while patching his finger up.
“Thanks. But I guess that power is useless if I can’t control it.” I thought aloud.
We arrived at our destination, which was my house. Angelo gave me his number and dropped me off. I opened my door and I was greeted by Liz’s cooking and Creed dozing off. So homely.
“Yo, welcome home.” Liz said, then she saw my hands. She stopped her cooking and took a look at my hands.

“What happened? Did you burn yourself?” I explained to her briefly about the new, uncontrollable power. She was very understanding and let me off the hook. I really needed sleep too, so I’m glad she didn’t make a fuss out of it. I went to sleep on the couch next to Creed.
When I woke up, neither Creed nor Liz were nowhere to be found. I searched the entire house. I decided to look outside. I opened my front door, but blocking my way was a man with hair as white as wool and eyes like fire. He took a step towards me. I instinctively went backward. He leaned towards me, in a condescending demeanor.
“Are you Jake Cains?”
“Who the fuck are you?”
“Well… I’m Jesus Christ.” I took another step back.
“Impossible...” The son of God was on my doorstep. I grabbed the collar on his silky robe.
“What the fuck did you do to them!?”
“I’ve killed them.” He laughed. “I killed them all. That girl. The fat kid. The fit idiot. The army kid. I killed and now I’m here to kill you.” He laughed maniacally.
I felt anger I’ve never felt before. I felt power I’ve never felt before. The lingering sensation came back to my body, but this time, it wasn’t only my arms. It was my whole body. The flames engulfed me. I felt the power of the Devil in my body. I couldn’t think straight anymore.
“Finally a challenge!” Jesus exclaimed. He swung at me. I blocked it without any effort. He attacked me again and again, but I blocked him. He attacked once again, but I grabbed ahold of his arm. He swung with the other, but I grabbed it too. I threw him across the street with minimal effort. Jesus flew through a few houses and crashed into a truck. I began to walk towards him but I was surprised to find he wasn’t there. I looked around and found him behind me.

“Guess I can’t underestimate you, huh?” He began attacking without skipping a beat. Attack after attack. Block after block. We were fighting at the speed of light. I couldn’t even attack. He finally broke through my defense and hit me into the ground. He got on top of me and began to choke me. I felt the life slip away, I felt the flames go down as my blood had gone into my pores. It felt hopeless, but then suddenly Jesus got knocked down and he began to bleed.
“YOU THINK YOUR SHITTY KNOT CAN KEEP ME DOWN, MOTHERFUCKER!” A familiar, female voice shouted. It was Liz. She was wielding Mike’s AK. Jesus was shot, but he still got up. He tried to attack Liz, but I tackled him. She smiled, took aim and shot. Her bullet passed by my face and killed Jesus. I could finally rest. I sat down and she helped me up. I tried to thank her, but I was knocked down. It was a small quake. Something emerged from the rubble. It was Jesus.
“You think y..you can k..kill me... mortal? I’M IMMORTAL. I’M FU...”
“Take that immortality and shove it up your ass!” Liz yelled out loudly, cutting Jesus off. He looked at us with his fiery eyes.
“I will kill you all… but not now.” A bright flash blinded us and he disappeared.
“Where are you hiding, you pussy!” Liz began shouting but to no avail. He was gone, probably back to heaven.
I guess there’s salvation for me anymore. I know what must be done. I looked at Liz who was looking around for the escapee. I shifted my view towards Creed who was burying the RPG. Money well spent, huh? I had a plan. I called Liz and Creed over.
“Fuck the long-term bullshit. We are attacking Heaven. Right. Fucking. Now”
“WE ARE DOING WHAT!” Liz yelled out.
“I think I was pretty clear.”
“Listen, Jake. With Mike’s death and your loss, I don’t think it’s a good idea to go in alone. We should gather more people and...”
“I have an idea, ok?” I pulled out my phone, but she was having none of it.
“What’s your idea? Call the fucking police!? We are alone right now. Creed is our only comrade.” I grabbed her hand.
“You aren’t right. We have so many others.” She looked confused.
“What do you mean?” I released her hand and got on the phone. I scrolled up and there I found it.
It began to ring.

It Started with Slime
Before we jump in, let me say that the MC starts stupid, so the language and writing style is straightforward to reflect this. The writing improves with the MC and as the chapters progress (I hope). It is also a gradual growth story, so no zero to hero in ten seconds... with that out of the way: An alchemical experiment has gone wrong and results in a Slime Monster. It doesn't have a name at first and is something that it will need to work out! This story follows a Slime that starts as a Micro Slime with some level of consciousness, and there is more to it than meets the eye. Survival is the name of the game. To improve, it works hard to grow, evolve and become more powerful to survive its harsh new reality. There is a lot more going, and only time will tell if this Slime (all its various versions) can become strong enough to make it through the strife to the other side. It's a harsh world, after all. It Started with Slime is a story with a Monster Protagonist Evolution story. There will be no profanity and no sexual content, and there will be some violence and fighting descriptions. I am a native English speaker, and so the English here should be to a good standard. That said, even though editing, there may be some corrections and typos, so if you see some, let me know! If it bothers you a lot, I am working to make sure all chapters have no typos, but of course, some might slip through. I will endeavour to correct any picked up, though! Also, I started this a few months ago and so any feedback is always appreciated, also reviews and ratings! If you like or don't like the story, let me know in the detailed reviews! That always helps me see what is good and what needs improving. Working on releasing chapters twice a week, I will try to increase that as time goes, but at the moment, that is what I can release. Patreon has more. If the story gets more popular, then I will increase the releases. I am aiming ultimately for a chapter a day if I can get to that. Chapters are roughly 1500 words, with Interludes every five chapters being more or less than that! Enjoy! Edit: Book 1 finished on Patreon, and the format for Book 2 is slightly different with Interludes every three chapters, and the release schedule will be three chapters a week. Mobius
Far in the future, humans have thoroughly colonized space through the use of floating colonies and artificially replicating the Earth whenever possible. Most of these endeavors have gone well, with humanity spreading across the universe like the seeds of plants floating in the wind. Yet still there lurks the great mistake, the endless station of Mobius, a megastructure which hasn't ceased its building in over a century. Dante, a man living in this megastructure, is tasked with the recording of stories told by criminals, particularly those who travel between strata. One day, a prisoner is captured claiming to be Captain Pluto, an infamous criminal thought to be fictitious by most scholars. Even more curious, he claims to hail all the way from Stratum 56, a location so far away from Dante's Stratum 999 that it would take lifetimes to traverse such a distance. Dante must discern whether or not the story is false or true, and the longer he lets Captain Pluto speak, the more difficult his task becomes. *****Average chapter length will be 10k words give or take. This isn't a very serious story for me. I'm writing this to blow off steam. Updates will happen infrequently because of this, and it will most likely be unpolished unless I begin to take it more seriously.
