Chapter 4: A Family I Don't Know
The zombies kept coming one after the other. The more I kill, the more will come in through the broken window or crawl under the gate. Outside is another story. The amount of zombies that is being pulled in the area was starting to look like a witch hunt. Except, the ones outside have their skin peeling of exposing rotten flesh. The groans they made wasn't in unison and has became so loud that its probably attracting new zombies. Luckily the metal gate was there or else, they would have broken through the glass making it impossible to take them all on.
I kept the little girl behind me and she cowers in fear. Heads were flying in all directions as I kept them at bay. I don't know if I had abnormal strength but it felt like I was hitting soft bags. Some heads explode on impact splattering blood everywhere and some heads would get severed where I would swing. It didn't take much energy to decapitate them. One thing I notice is that they only die when the head gets taken off the body. Breaking their arms or legs only immobilizes them. Even the ones who are only half complete, was still alive groaning their existence away.
Even though I'm a zombie, I didn't feel anything from killing my kind. My feeling was stronger towards protecting the little girl who was once almost my meal. I'm not going to lie, she still smells delicious but I wasn't losing it as I kept my conscience intact.
I grab the little girl from her bag and drag her as I swung the bat with one hand. I drag her towards a back room hoping there will be a way out. Zombies followed us at a slow pace and one almost got a hold of her. I swung so hard that the bat shatters into pieces leaving wooden spikes at the end of it. It was a female zombie and her head went flying to another zombie causing it to stumble on the ground. But he didn't care and stood back up and kept dragging his feet towards us.
Pain. I say in my mind as I knew one thing that makes a zombie different than humans. They don't feel pain. No matter how much damage I do, how many limbs I break or decapitate, they never showed any emotions. But I felt pain earlier when I saw those memories. Maybe I'm different.
I always thought I'm the same as them but it seems like I'm not. I look like a zombie but I know what pain feels like and it fucking hurts. After getting inside the back room, another zombie was there tied up on a chair. She was groaning trying to break away as she eyed the little girl. On the other hand, the little girl was already terrified of me as she loses her strength to walk properly. Hearing more zombies approach us, I quickly shut the door trapping us inside with the female zombie on the chair.

She kept squirming on her seat and I couldn't take my eyes off her chest. I wasn't looking at her breast which was big enough to bounce side to side, I was looking at the metal with a black handle lodged on her.
Katana. Another flashback appeared in succession. I see myself practicing swinging the katana and it felt like it was part of my body. More information about something about swordplay and other moves made me want to hold the katana with excitement. I slowly approach her and she ignored my existence as she kept looking at the little girl who was still crying where I left her.
I grab the hilt of the katana and pulled it out slowly. It was sharp that it was easy to pull out of her. I was smiling internally like a little kid while my expression remains the same. It felt like it was part of my body as I swing it downwards forcing the leftover zombie blood on the blade to splatter onto the ground. Wanting to test out my new memories, I step away a bit from the zombie as I got into a stance. I swung the sword sideways as I move my body forward and it cleanly went through her neck as her head came off her body.
I swung the sword one more time and it cut through her torso with ease. It felt exhilarating and I was too busy that I didn't notice the little girl passing out a while ago. I went near her and her smell was still there. Everything inside me wanted to eat her but my mind was telling me no. It's as if I was fighting with myself torn between having my meal or saving it. Trying to distract my stomach, I look around the room to see if I can find the katana's scabbard.
It didn't take long as I found it leaning against a wall. I can hear the zombies banging on the door and their groans were getting louder and louder as more zombies are probably bunching up near it. The wooden door starts to break in random places and I knew it wasn't going to hold any longer. It reminds me of my recent memory and I knew, if I don't get her out of here, this little girl is dead once they all breakthrough. I can only hold back as much and fighting against a horde while protecting her would be impossible.
Inspecting the place for any exit was my main task. I need to get her out of here or else, she'll be their food. If there is no other choice and I couldn't protect her, I'd rather eat her myself. I'm guessing due to my recent memory, my feelings have changed. I didn't want to give up until there is no solution.
But, why I'm set on saving her is something I can't figure out. know. It's probably because now, it makes me feel more excited to save her than eat her. And I like that feeling.

I inspect all areas of the room and there was no small window like the one in my memory. This room had one entrance, and that is where we came from. But one did catch my eye. A red metal looking fence extends towards the ceiling.
Ladder? It wasn't a fence but a ladder. A red metal ladder that leads to a hatch. My memories were vivid and I saw myself climbing a few of them and pushing the hatch open. Without waiting for the zombies to come in and devour my only purpose of excitement, I climb the ladder up until I was face to face with the hatch. I pushed it but it wouldn't budge. Getting a closer look, a new memory came into my mind about a latch.
Grabbing a yellow metal, I turn it in the opposite direction, and the hatch unlocks slightly opened upwards. I push it further out and I could see the blue sky. I went back down and grabbed the little girl carrying her up the ladder. I let her down and close the hatch pulling the same yellow metal from this end locking it in place. I inspect the area and more memories came about rooftops. Luckily there were no zombies but getting a good look, a lot more zombies surround the store groaning in all directions.
There was only a section with little zombies due to a metal fence preventing them from coming through. For some odd reason, I was confident I was able to jump down without hurting myself. Besides, it's not like zombies feel pain. I grab the little girl and threw her over my shoulder. I stand on the ledge for a brief second before stepping forward letting myself fall to the bottom, I land on my feet with ease and a zombie slowly approaches us from the side. I quickly dealt with him with the katana as I swung at him without aiming.
It went through his right shoulder cutting his arm off but my sword didn't stop there as it travels across his torso cutting him in half. His upper body fell to the side while his lower body lost all life plopping backward. I could see his insides pouring out on the ground. More memories came in as I learned about the intestines, stomach, and pretty much the internal organs of a human being.
He didn't die as he continued to groan crawling towards us with his remaining arm. I didn't bother killing him as I ran through the alleyway of the store towards the street. The only place I know where to go is the fancy building I use as shelter. The only problem is, I'll have to clear it out from the zombies when I get there to make it safe for her to be in. I don't know what I would do afterward but, for now, I'll save her as much as I can.
I moved with ease as I run through the street slicing zombies that I come across. If I could smile right now, I would. The feeling of moving fast with the wind hitting my face was comforting. If only I didn't have to save her, I would be spending my time running around the city. It was luck that most of the zombies wandered towards the store so there was less roaming the streets making it easier to travel through.
I arrive faster than before and I set her down on my favorite couch. She was still sleeping and I decided to get busy clearing the zombies in the surrounding area. The only problem is, how would I prevent them from getting in? The fancy building had high walls and the glass window was high enough that makes it impossible for a zombie to get in form but the door itself is the issue. The door is made out of glass and closing it won't do much to a horde.
Remembering about the metal fence, I looked around the area to see if there is anything similar and to my luck, there is. but it was too high making it impossible to reach. Remembering the ladder, I looked around and I found one inside a room. I didn't know what type of room it was but it had stuff like mops and a bucket along with other things I started learning through my memories. I bring the ladder and open it near the entrance from outside.
If I could bring it down, it would make it safe for her in here. I remember in my memory about the gates that these can be pulled down. I kick the ladder away from under me and I went down with the gate causing me to stumble towards the ground. I quickly got up and pulled it up a bit so I can lodge the ladder under. Similar to what I have seen earlier at the store I crawl through and pull the ladder from the inside making the gate close completely.
For the first time in my short life, I felt something I haven't felt before. A sense of accomplishment. These feelings are all new to me and I wondered if some zombies feel the same. I walk back to the little girl and she slept soundly even with all the noise I was making earlier. I sat down right beside her and watch her sleep.
I keep remembering my recent memory and for the first time in my life, I felt like tears would come out of my eyes. I know she's not the one from the memory but I can't help getting thinking if that little girl in my memory is still alive or if they all made it safely. I watch her as I open my mouth muttering, "l-little....s-sister."
Like a newborn baby, I finally uttered my first word and I kept repeating it till the sky turned dark.
