《Wilberforce》Chapter 47: The Core

After a few moments of observation between Armad and this creature, the creature opened its mouth and began, "If you have learned the arcane of pol while Hidaya was teaching you, you would not have found yourself in this state of sorrow."

"Hmm?" Armad sighed and raised an eyebrow. How did it know about him and Hidaya? "I asked you a question and you didn't answer me, who are you?"

The creature opened its mouth further in anger, where a white smoke came out. "I am your djinn JI-DAIME! You do not even know your djinn, you do not even know the meaning of pol, you do not know the history of pol, you do not know your core... How can you compare yourself with the great Benders of the First Dawn?"

Armad's mouth was open and he couldn't speak. What was the creature even talking about? First of all, the creature was his demon. It also said he didn't know the meaning of pol, that he didn't know the history of pol, and that he didn't know the structure of his core.

Armad didn't agree with these 'observations' - he felt it was nonsense to talk to him about the meaning of pol, or the history of pol, after all, he had read about pol affairs since from a young age - however, it made him curious.

Armad had never seen his djinn. All he could see was a pictorial representation in his core and the space between the representation and his essence board. And what did it mean by Armad didn't know his core? That was elementary. So he decided to accept the ignorance and to take advantage of the situation.

"Ji-Daime...? I know that humans can't see their djinns until they reach a pol of seven hundred years, so how am I seeing you? My pol is below one hundred. Second, I believe I don't know about my core, nor the history of pol, so let me know. However, don't forget that you didn't answer my question: if you are my djinn, why are you tied up? Are all djinns like you tied up? And where are we now?"

Ji-Daime smiled by the side of his gray eyes. It was like djinns to want to be magnified, and Armad was doing just that by admitting ignorance and allowing Ji-Daime to teach him.

Ji-Daime turned to him with his white teeth, smiling for the first time.

"Let me give you the knowledge that you seek. Every human being is born with something called a core. A core consists of three elements: a demon, an essence board, and a pol.

"As you already know each person can control different techniques like Fire or Water or any other essence according to their djinn. I blessed you with my lightning, didn't I? But this is just an introduction to the interaction between man and djinn. It's something that many scholars in my world have spent their entire lives trying to find out. A person like you who has never seen a djinn has no idea.

"The essence board is the second thing in your core. It records all your Bends, and sometimes it might have a sword essence. Yours have it and, fortunately, after losing your sister you awaken it. Partly the reason why you can learn more than one sword cross overs. But you know nothing about swords yet.

"The third component of the core is pol. Pol will allow you to live longer as a Bender. It might have a second component like the essence board, a spirit form like me. But, of course, you don't have it and even if you have, it will be useless and weak. No spirit form is as powerful as a djinn."

A second spirit form? That was new. Zaikid had never told him about it. Maybe it was because he didn't have it and the professor thought it was meaningless to talk about it.

"But all three of these things," Ji-Daime continued. "You know nothing about them. You still can't use 10% of your djinn because you can't even see me. And you still can't really use the sword essence in your essence board, and so forth. Your pride is a little too much, brat. You do not even know my place among the djinns. If you want to be one of the great Benders that have ever lived, then untie me. I will teach you what you need to be a true Bender.

"And I have not forgotten about your two questions: first, you are in a world between your core and our realm, I am the one who brought you here because I am tired of seeing you humiliated and causing me disgrace among my fellow Kings. But your body is still with Uznu and I have no power to free you from him since I can not enter the human realm.

"Second, your sister Hidaya tied me up. Don't even ask me why because I don't know, but this is how it is. She is the only one who was born with the power to travel between the realm of djinn and men. Even from a young age, she traveled between my world and yours as she pleased. Indeed, her power was so great that she deceived even me and bound me." When the creature mentioned the last sentence, it flushed like someone talking about a girlfriend that deceived them. With a defeated sigh, it continued, "So it's your choice, free me and save yourself, or let Uznu kill you."

Ji-Daime shook its head and looked away.
