《My Pirate System》Chapter 9: The Gods

*gulp*
The officer who was dragging Eric was quite scared. His hands were trembling and that was not because of Eric, it was because of the notorious and the deadliest criminals that were shouting.
The prison consisted of Five sectors, the top most was called the Zeroth sector where the officers used to stay and use as their waiting place or watching place which worked just like a watchtower.
Just below was the sector which was at the same level as the ground and one basically didn't have to climb any steps to reach it.
It was called the first sector where the criminals who have special powers or have special connections but were weak were confined.
Then followed the second, third, and fourth sectors which all were underground or rather underwater.
The land on which this base was built was called the floating island. It had no contact with the bottom layer of the sea.
Basically, it is like a piece of some rock floating on water due to which the supposed underground prison was built underwater!
Regardless, it was one of the best prisons in the world where many criminals with huge records were placed or captured and confined!
The countless criminals had countless stories to tell, but that was for some other time.

What is a god?
Is it a deity of unfathomable power having no definite form or so? A manifestation of natural disasters in human form?
Are they benevolent beings trying to help the less fortunate to live better lives or more? To help them find different ways to lessen the burden?
Or...
Are they Malevolent beings trying to find some sort of sick enjoyment in pitting humans against each other. A way to prove their strength and to easily discern whether it is worth it to do things as long as they result in their amusement.

No one knows what they really are other than the gods themselves.
They are all unique from each other.
While how a god is born or made is unknown, there are many speculations.
Some say they are natural disasters given form.
Some say they are concepts given flesh.
The first of the gods to form was the primordial pit of anomalies named Chaos.
Out of all the gods, Chaos itself is the oldest and most powerful of all. The main progenitor of this world, he holds the power to completely destroy this pathetic lump of rock in the cosmos with nothing but a thought.
Thankfully, despite the deities' name, Chaos itself is not malevolent and content in watching everything go, whether it is by its natural course or along with the intervention of other deities.
As long as nothing too drastic happens, Chaos itself will not care for that is its' successor's job. The Deity, Order.
Born from the pit of anomalies, Order itself is similar to its progenitor. A being that does not care if anything happens as long as the balance is kept. Yet it plays a more active part compared to Chaos. Actively making sure that no side will get the better of the other, Order itself is a concept and is one that acts according to the time.
For example. If the world has been in the hands of evil for 100 years, then order itself will create plans to produce a champion that can dispel it and usher in a century of a world ruled by good.
Order itself is neither malevolent nor gentle. It is merely a concept given form and due to its nature, it split half of its power into two beings. Light and dark.
Similar to their creator, these two deities are neither good nor evil. HOWEVER! They are special entities for they require hosts, humans, to act. Due to this, they are used by humans in whatever way the humans think the power itself should be used. At first, The champions of light and dark coexisted for a long time in secret.

However, as time passed by, humanity itself discovered knowledge. And started to associate things with different elements.
Light is an element that humans heavily depended on to make up for their weaknesses. Humans themselves and others thought of life and other positive things such as progress, evolution, innovation, and more. They desired to know more about this and due to this, they developed a dislike for the opposite element of light, Darkness.
Darkness itself is an element mostly unknown yet it was pure. Out of all the first deities, it possessed a love for humanity due to a human befriending it at the time when its twin first gathered its followers.
The deity took a form similar to its friend and together, the two traveled the world and helped people. They soon gathered enough people and with its powers, the deity of darkness formed an island using its powers as a place for it and its people. For hundreds of years, the deities lived in peace with each of them aiding in the creation of countless other deities.
The sea god was one of the first created by one of the two. It controlled the oceans themselves. Born under the machinations of the deity of light, the sea god easily gathered countless followers.
The first companion the deity of darkness created is a pair of twins. The most loyal of all, a hydra to protect the island's seas and a dragon who soared in the skies to protect it from above.
The hydra itself went underwater and trained under one of the minor gods of the sea while the dragon trained with the wind god, a good friend of the deity of darkness.
Sadly, everything changed. Life happened and humanity grew too greedy.
The deity of light, drunk on the power received from its followers, slowly lost its sanity and let its followers do what they needed. Humans in their own infinite wisdom decided to make the deity of darkness and its followers a scapegoat and went on a crusade.
Thirteen. Thirteen crusades that spanned centuries. The resulting battle destroyed the world's original landmass. Lands rose and fell. Seas rose and devoured countless lands and lives while some of the original spaces of the sea.
Countless gods fell and rose.
Needless to say, this gave rise to all the warriors and chosen ones. The ones chosen by stronger Gods were automatically stronger while those by weaker ones, were weak. However, that didn't mean they couldn't rise above all!

Dungeon's Path
The only places I have posted the story and allow it to exist are on RoyalRoad, Scribblehub, and my Patreon. So the world ended. Whoopsie? We didn’t even see it coming. Quite literally as it came at us faster than the speed of light. Don’t worry though, it got better. Also, I am not joking about the world ending. Most people say that and mean humans are inconvenienced for some reason. Nope, all matter disintegrated at the atomic scale there for a few moments. Apparently the local universe wasn’t actually stable? Don’t ask me to go into too much detail. It would require both of us to have a few more college degrees than sense, and I at least lack them (both the degrees and the sense). Anyway, the energy/matter/wibbly wobbly strings were at a local minimum and not the universal minimum. Basically, what we took for sea level was actually a nice little mountain lake and when the dam busted so did, well, everything. Now here is where things go a bit off track with what normal meant before. You see magic is real, qi is real, gods are real. Not on old Earth mind you but souls pay little attention to time and space so we dreamed of it. In fact, the closer the shift in reality got to Earth, the closer our dreams got to the new reality. This is basically me tip toeing around the fact that it was a ‘System Apocalypse’. Reality became a video game, I became a dungeon, and this is my story. Doyle Huxley just wanted a normal life but as the above might clue you in on that just isn’t in the cards. He gets to experience a “Path Based System Apocalypse” and some early paths he takes, both literally and figuratively, lead to him becoming a dungeon. The aim is to release chapters once a week on Friday. Cursing will be avoided and no naughty adult action will take place in the story.

The Complete Alchemyst book 1
You've heard of superheroes, seen them flying across the sky, destroying great swaths of cities and ending countless innocent lives in order to defeat great evils and world-spanning threats and sell lots of sponsorships and merchandising opportunities. This is a story about the guy that is not those heroes. A supervillain in a world where making the right friends and political contacts is what separates the good guys from the bad. The Alchemyst is a story about a normal guy in a crazy world that spends his time trying to follow his dreams and conscience, working on new potions, thinking about girls, and lifting heavy shit, while trying to stay under the radar of the superheroes, supervillains, and governments that want what he can do. And occasionally turning them into makeshift melee weapons. If you enjoy The Boys, the Aberrant roleplaying game, Mystery Men, Trashy romances, Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, or SAW you may enjoy this book. Please note that this book has extremely graphic and sometimes gross fight scenes, heroes as villains, villains as heroes, opinionated and often politically incorrect characters, some graphic sex scenes, dad jokes, dirty jokes, realistic depictions of romance and flirting, bondage and dominance themes, and more than a few cuss words when they are really appropriate. This is NOT a superhero genre deconstruction. Many heroes truly are heroes, and they don't all need to be destroyed to make a good story, but it does look into the dark side of superpowers and the unreasonable and often contradictory demands placed on exceptional people.
