Chapter 8: I wish it was easy

I awoke with Emi’s shoulder laying on me slightly. I could feel her breathing, inflating, deflating.

I tried my hardest to not disturb Emi as I headed on to the adventurer’s guild.

I took the same permanent quest as before.

I saw a slime, and I chanted,

“Fire magic, I call upon you to unleash, Fire Bolt!” I watched the little ball smash into the slime, and completely and utterly fly right through it.

The slime was unharmed.

It was probably because of the Akafwhan magic. I bet using magic from Akafwhuwa only works on Akafwhuwan type monsters.

I visualized the fire breaking out, killing the slime. It worked.

I stayed on the upper levels, killing slimes. I was able to complete the permanent quest thrice.

I got 15 silver coins. Just the amount I needed. I needed 10 silver coins to pay for a sword, and 5 extra for a night at the inn.

I still wanted to try out the sword that day though.

As soon as I bought the sword, I started swinging it around, pretending to be fighting monsters. I imagined the fight, slashing through slimes, goblins, and even Akafwhan monsters.

“Hut! Kyah!” I shouted like a complete idiot.

I heard a scream outside the building, and I ran to see what was going on.

It was an Akafwhuwan monster, but this time it was a Razardo, a lizard type monster, and it brought it’s buddy. I pulled out my sword, and tried to fight it, but the sword only bounced off. I imagined my sword being surrounded by flames, and shouted,

“Fire magic, I call upon you, to unleash Fire Blade!” The sword pierced through the monster’s thick scales, and blood flowed out.

“You’re next!” I shouted to the other monster, as it approached me. I slit the monster’s throat, and gave it a hard kick to the face. I watched the monster fall to the ground, as it screamed in pain. I flicked the blood off my sword, and walked back into the crowd.

But before I could say anything, I heard someone call my name.

“Iro! It’s me! Redrae!” The girl standing before me was, in fact, Redrae. Her face didn’t quite reflect what she had just seen. This reminded me of what she said before. “I just avoid it by not having any regret.”

“Hi Redrae. What are you doing here?” I asked,

“Oh, I was just here getting some potions for my party, but then I saw you fighting. It intrigued me because it didn’t look like a monster from Redal. What was that thing?”

This was going to be hard to explain. How do I make a lie about what that monster is, when I’m talking to another adventurer?

That’s it!

“Oh, it’s a kind of monster that’s from Futae. It probably got through the walls somehow.”

“I see. So Futae has different kinds of monsters?”

“Yeah. A lot of them.” This was the perfect lie. Pretty much nobody here has been to Futae, because that’s the country we’re at war with.

“Wow. I never knew. Well, I was going to go to the dungeon with my party. You want to tag along?”

“I guess.” I didn’t want to join their party, but if we were just teaming up for a mission or two, I guess that’s fine. I did need a bit of intel on how I should fight in the dungeons.

“Yay! Alright, could you carry a couple of these potions for me?”

“Yeah, sure.”

We arrived at the supposed meeting spot, where we were greeted by 2 more adventurers. They were both men, whose names were, “Anku” (Eh-n-ku) and “Buhrruhd” (Boo-rud)

Anku was another adventurer that was enjoyable, he didn’t seem to have much muscle on his body, and his clothes seemed to be pretty expensive.

Buhrruhd was a large man, who seemed to be the opposite of Anku in every way. His clothes were shabby, and while Anku seemed to be a bit of the coward type, Buhrruhd was the kind of guy to take on anything.

“What quest did you guys take?” Redrae asked Buhrruhd and Anku.

“We took a Goblin hunting quest. We are supposed to take out 25 goblins.” Buhrrud said,

“I tried to talk him into the half-slime half-goblin quest that was available, but he seemed pretty serious with this one.” Anku said to Redrae and I in response to Buhrruhd.

“Well, I think we can take it on! Right Iro?”

“Sure.” I said, “As long as we stay focused.”
