Chapter 5: Living at the Magic Academy

I got to the group of people who passed, and was asked various questions by all of them. I simply responded,

“Let's have a good school life, Okay?”

They all seemed to stop, but get more curious at the same time.

It seemed there were no more tests. This academy was a whole lot less than I expected.

Two days from now, I start school at the magic academy.

Once everyone went home, I went to the wagon, and fell asleep there.

When I woke up, I told the wagon driver that I needed the wagon for one more night. But after that, I got out of the wagon, and was free to roam the city.

The city was called, “Kotokorimo” or, mother of the country I live in, Kotokori. It was called this because, as the largest city in Kotokori, it is often referred to as the birthplace of Kotokori.

I decided to do a full rundown of the city, to see if it really is the same one from my dream.

I can reaffirm, it is. I went through every alleyway, checked every corner, all the same. I even found the exact window I broke.

I went around the city, finding places to eat, shops to check out, everything. But I eventually stumbled across some monsters, attacking someone in a small corner tucked away behind a shop.

I sprung into action, exhaling hard, and holding out my arm.

I felt the dark energy coursing through me, but not overcoming me. I sealed the monsters.

I went to check on the person who was attacked.

It was Emi. I didn’t recognize her, because she dyed most of her hair from the green I knew her from, to a more regular black.

In this world, while uncommon, hair colors from all over the rainbow are possible.

“Emi?” I said in slight confusion,

“I- Iro?” Emi responded,

“What are you doing here?” I asked,

“I’m, uh, er-” I looked at the building to the left. This world seems to have already mastered dying hair, because the shop right next to me advertised dying hair.

“Emi, why are you trying to dye your hair?”

“I- It’s caused me so much pain!” Emi said, “No matter the introduction, or how nice I am, people always run away!” Emi got quieter, “You, you didn’t, but, that was surely out of obligation… All I want is for me to be considered normal!”

“Is that really better though?” I asked, “Do you want to be considered the same old boring person? With nothing defining you? I- I love your hair!” Emi fell to her knees, and I went up to her shoulder, and just said, “Please. Even if you look different, it doesn’t matter, because you still look beautiful.”

I sat by Emi, and eventually, Emi said,

“Thank you. I’ve never had someone say that before.” Emi paused, “I- I’ll go talk to the hairdresser.”

Emi was left that day, with bright green hair, with black tips.

The First Day

I woke up today, and told the wagon driver to tell Akafmowa that I made it into the magic academy.

Once I was done conveying my message, I headed to the academy for the ceremony that I knew was going to be long.

The older students gave a speech, they talked about how we were all promising candidates for, “The One Who Will Conquer The Stars.” I’m guessing that’s a normal thing people say in the city.

It was all going according to plan when they told us about the training we would be receiving,

“You all will be learning the best of the best training. You will learn dark magic. You will learn seal, some of the most powerful magic capable of humans.”

Was I missing something? Seal? Some of the most powerful magic capable of humans? What do they mean? Surely there is magic more powerful than seal, the spell I learned only 28 days after I learned firebolt.

Nope, seal is pretty powerful, as I could tell by the eruption in the room.

Once the ceremony was over, they showed us to the dormitories we would be staying in.

The boys dorms would be on the left, and girls on the right. I continued on the left.

We were shown to the 5 star hotel that was our dormitory. Is this really what you get if you do a fire bolt? This much special treatment for just one firebolt? Surely there was a mistake.

There was no mistake. I was shown to the room I was staying at, which was the room for top of the class. Wait, me, a 12 year-old, top of the class?

Something was surely off.

Once the dorm tour and other mandatory stuff was over, we went to the first class. It was a “Basic Magic” class.

Surely they have something at least a little advanced!

Nope. They asked us to perform a firebolt. “Just to see where we were at.”

I pointed my arm at the target, and completely destroyed it, and everything beneath it. I made a hole directly through the world.

I had never done this before, but I sent my fire bolt towards the target, destroyed the target, then sent the firebolt directly up, and thrusted it through the earth.

The entire class asked me simultaneously,

“HOW DID YOU DO THAT!?”

That was just my firebolt...
