《Isekai - If I was Born in Another World》Chapter 2.2 - Hero, Curse, and Magic : Person Like Me Can't be a Hero

Haruya
I ran towards the exit gate, going to Anana's direction. I don't really love to fight, but I think I must do this. Scolded by a girl (Anana) will be the worst session of your life. Just what does it mean? To be chosen as a hero, but not given any super powers. I even have to medidate for hours, just to be able to use a spell.
Moreover casting it is not as easy as I thought. The power of words... I can't seduce a girl! Let alone a God! I thought for a lot of good words, but only some succeeded.
*Bruagh
A girl bumped into me.
"Ah, so-sorry!"
"Me too, sorry... eh?"
I frowned in confusion. The girl also watched me thoroughly with her brown eyes, as if she can't believe what did she see.
It is...
"Haruya! What are you doing!? Come here, fast!"
Anana grabbed my arm and pulled me over with no mercy. Please, this is so important.
Well, it's useless if we are talking to Anana. I suppose I will search for her after this thing ends. I don't know why, but I think I will be able to at least survive this.
***
Ok, they haven't seen me yet.
Shit happened. At first, I did nothing and just saw goblins being slaid everyhere. But, just when we are going to clear the outer side of the residence ,there were some civilians who were still on their way to evacuation. The goblins took hostage of them.
Currently, though some houses were there was 0 casualties, both on elves and humans. It feels like the elves did nothing other than watching from the rooftops, when their goblin friends were slaughtered. Not only that, this attack seems so aimless, not planned at all. Moreover, they all use a mask.
Do they... have another objectives?
Ah, whatever, now, I must help Anana who couldn't move because of the hostages.
But how? I even forced myself just to see the goblin's internal organs and bloods. Just playing a realistic gore games are already scary, and now I must see the real one.
Fuck... just why me? You can choose someone who can fight far better than me who can't even handle hurting someone! Let alone slaughter them!
Calm down... Haruya... Just think it's a game you played. Yeah... a game, and you must save your allies no matter what.
I closed my eyes and controlled my breath. It always works well, including this time. Once I opened my eyes, I saw a whole different thing.
Now, I am hiding behind the houses while the ruckus are happening on the road. All that I need to do is creating some space with Frans for Anana. Yeah, if I am attacked, I will run.
After taking some charcoal ash from a pouch, I wrote a magic circle on my left hand. It was originally meant for training, but who knows if it'll be used for my first fight.
...I hope I can boost the power here too. Training inside my room forces me to control the power I want to use, and now, I want to make it quick.

"O, goddess of destruction, Tabatha, in thy presence I kneel. None is immortal, as all things will someday perish into ashes, leaving no trace of existance. My name is Haruya!"
not yet
"God of thunder, Thundra! Lend me thou power, thou bolting lighting, to cover this world. In thou name, I, Haruya, shall pray."
Really... Dear God... later, when you force someone to save the world, give him a better funding!
I grinned with excitement while holding the heat on my hand while the fire became bigger and bigger. Magic staff is still too expensive for me. But, so what? I've been doing crazy stuffs, trying more and more new things in my origin world. It's the most entertaining part in doing something, including magic.
"Fire Bolt!"
The fire formed a ball, then rushed forward, bouncing on the ground without controls. I purposely angled my fire a little to the left, where the goblins are covering the hostage.
*Zwooosh
"Gyaaarkk!!!"
"Gaakhh!!
Having goblins as my enemies like this is fun. Watching them burn and panic is more to thrilling than depressing.
...
I must stop. This is reality. I just burned them.
Calm down... Haruya... You are saving your allies, some innocent people will die if you didn't do this.
*Duar
Frans, took the chance and hit one more goblins with his rifle, precisely on his temple.
The goblins panicked, knowing that they lost control of the hostages. Anana ran and slashed the remainings, then chased the goblins in the backline, who were running hopelessly.
Hhh... I hope this clash will end soon... My brain can't take more of it.
*Zressh
"Whoaa!"
Shit! That was close!
I was lucky I noticed an arrow shooting at me and jumped back. It will pierce my chest if not. There, in front of me, stood a masked female elf. She is still in the position of aiming arrows, and seems strangely calm about all that happened to her goblin friends. I don't know, she is wearing an 'cat anbu-like' mask, like her friends. (Anbu from Naruto, which looks like a cat.)
In the first sight, she just wore a black swimsuit, covered by a chestplate, wrist protector, boots, a waist cape, and a green mini vest.
Maybe it's just a normal set for a female warrior in this world. Anana wears a similar set too, just that she is a knight who wields sword and goes to the frontline more, she wears a waist armor instead of cape, and some sort of metal boots to also protect her ulna.
Yeah, female warrior Elves are known to use martial arts with her kicks. Moreover jumping over the terrain to find a good sniping shot. She will need more mobility and flexibility.
...
I glared at her without even blinking. I don't want to give her a milisecond chance to shoot her arrows. On the other hand, she forced me to concentrate only at her.
Shit, should I scream for help? No, she will end me right away then make her way on an escape. I don't know what to do now.

Eh? Is that...
I gained my confidence again after seeing a girl figure behind the elf, staying low while moving her mouth quietly, casting a spell. Grin showed up unconciously, making my enemy is more aware on me.
Really, this is the best scenario I could ever imagine. A scenario which will only happen for me and Kanami in a game.
Well, in that case... I will try to do what I always did.
Yeah, "I will cover you"
She has an arrow, which could be shot any seconds. Ok, then I will use the spell you used to help me to help you now.
"O, mother earth, by all means, please grant thou strength to lift the weight of life. My name is Haruya, requesting for your kindness."
The elf seems didn't notice at all. Giving a wizard a chance to finish casting his spell is the biggest blunder you could ever make as an assassin.
I breathed deeply once, then jumped forward.
As I expected, she shot her arrows piercely at that second. When I jumped forward, I can't really change my direction to dodge a projectile directed to my dead spot.
But, see how surprised she is when the arrow turned a little so I can dodge it. She changed her stance to a fighting stance, then launched a very quick left-side kick.
I blocked it, but the elf has predicted it and jumped, using her right leg to wipe my head.
I was lucky I learned taekwondo when I was in high school. It was meant to be able to fight if I was forced to do so. You know, we, males, will someday fight for a girl. I just don't want to lose to a son of bitch who thinks physical power is everything.
With some martial arts knowledge, combined with reaction speed I gained from playing FPS and rythm games, I bent my head to the side, letting the ultra-fast kick to shave only my ear.
The elf sure is a skilled one. She didn't fall and maintained her balance and rotated 180 degrees in the air, then used her right leg as a pedestal and wanted to kick me again with her left leg.
But, It's too late~
*Bzzzsst
"U-ugh..."
She fell to the ground then lost conciousness after recieveng a final blow from Airi. Phew, good thing she didn't notice her. She is very strong. Even my left hand which I used to block her first kick ache now. I have to flex it to reduce the pain.
...
I am happy about this scenario, but...
"Why did you come? You know it's dangerous."
"E-eh? B-but..."
"Shut up, what if you are attacked? You can fight? You are just lucky the elf didn't realize if you were there."
Being cold and scolding someone like this is really not my type, but I have to do this. What if she is hurt? She don't have to join this battle.
"S-sorry..."
Ok, maybe it's enough, her leg is trembling already. I am sure she is sad enough to not to do something like this again.
"...Hhh... It's ok, now, don't talk anymore, go back to the guild."
She nodded sadly, then turned back and start walking slowly. Truthfully, looking at her shrinked body and bowed head, I want to cheer her up, but I can't. I also wanted to thank her and said, "Good Job!" like what I always did with Kanami. Yet, this really is not the right time.
I looked down at the elf she shocked. I crouched and looked at her thoroughly.
Whoa... she's so pretty.
My heart raced after seeing the appearance behind that 'Cat Anbu-like' mask. She is not awake at all, with that showing clothes, I actually already have some dirty minds.
No, stop, it's not a good thing.
I frowned a little, then took one of her arrows. I held it strong, and tried to calm myself again. This is another reason I kicked Airi as soon as possible : I am going to kill someone. It's better to do it than letting her wake up again, which probably will lead to another attack.
I Hold my breathe and closed my eyes.
Yeah, nothing will happen. She attacked you. You just need to stab her in the neck and It's all done, you can run.
...
Useless... I just can't do it.
Anywhere, if you can bring the enemy to your base, it's always better than killing him/her. Taerin is an elf too, so I think he won't be happy if I killed one of his race. Anana may interrogate her too, or at least it wouldn't be me the one to kill her.
I created a lot of reasons to prevent myself to stab her, which succeeded.
I sighed, took off her chestplate and other disturbing or heavy equipments, then positioned her body for me to be able to carry her : I rolled her body to seated position, then lift her body up to standing position from behind. After it, I maneuver to the front side and bent my knees while pulling her arms until her armpits are over my shoulder. Then, I pulled her whole arm down to lock her position and stood up to start walking, dragging her along the way to the guild.
I am taller than her, so I don't have to actually full-carry her. Carrying her like that... I can't even imagine myself doing that. At this moment, I have plenty of time, after all.
Also, I shouldn't have kicked Airi just now. Moving a whole gorgeous elf alone while feeling her soft breath and even softer chest is.... very tempting. With Airi, I can distract my mind to her.
Well, let's see how her fate will be after this.

Cinder Roots (Undergoing a Rewrite)
This novel is currently undergoing a major rewrite, as I noticed several plot points that needed to be revamped. I'll leave the chapters I've posted here to anyone curious to see how everything started, but I'll be posting the rewritten story as a new novel in the future. The characters will be the same, but the journey will be more understandable and hopefully, a lot more fun to read. -------- First, everything was fire, it killed, it consumed, and it gave him life. He was just a tree, born in the biggest forest that remained in the world, full of dryads, naiads, elves and treants, but he was alone. He couldn’t see. He couldn’t talk. Curiosity plagued him. He dreamed of wandering the land, but could only wonder what stood outside the reach of his roots. The tree was tired of waiting. He decided to not just dream, but to act. How could he survive against a invading empire, a grand conspiracy that threatened to shake the foundations of the world, and the raw danger that lies within these woods? With pure determination. Warning - There are quite a few POV changes in the first chapters, but that'll change after the introduction is done, as I'll be focusing on the MC perspective only.
