《The Saga of Maximus Drago: Amenoa and Beyond (Book 3)》Ch. 7

Sean and the rest of his group showed up at the gates of Ebondale a week before the supposed attack, they were allowed into the city because of the amazons that traveled with them. Rionata and Nisa led them to the palace, into a room where Queen Lura was holding court. The conversations stopped when they saw who was interrupting, Sean and Marie stood in silence, waiting to be spoken to. The queen smiled when her attention settled on Nisa and Rionata.

“Rionata, Nisameia, a pleasant surprise, but why have you brought outsiders in our city? The queen asked with a hint of anger.

Rionata quickly replied, “Your Majesty, we have been battling the evil ones this past week and discovered that an attack is coming to Ebondale within seven days.” The crowd gasped and shouting was heard until the queen quieted them down.

Lura responded, “How do you know this Rionata? Know that our city will hold against these intruders.”

Rionata was hesitant in response, “Majesty, they’re bringing wyverns and cyclops with them.” That brought another round of shouts of panic and obscenities.

Lura looked around the room seeing panic in everyone’s eyes, so she made a quick decision. “Everyone except our guards and squad leaders leave for now while I get to the bottom of this. We will reconvene later today, thanks.” When the room was cleared, the queen sat down on her throne and sighed heavily. “Tell me how you came upon this information, Rionata.”

“We have been traveling from town to town, some of them were sacked, but we saved a couple of them," she responded. "While we were rescuing some captives, mages from our allies pulled the information from the warlocks that were defeated.”

“Who are these allies? Are they from Max’s group?” Queen Lura smiled at their reactions, mostly stunned and shocked at her statement of an outsider.

“Yes, Your Majesty, it was his people that helped us in our time of need. Sean, Marie, and part of his army was sent by him to help us prepare. How do you know of him, Your Majesty?” Nisa wondered how her queen knew of leader of SafeHaven.

“I made it a goal to know of the man who saved my daughter and her squad," Lura commented with a shrug of her shoulders. "She told me herself of the rescue. I also have heard some tall tales coming from our scouts concerning him. Now, I would like to know where my daughter is at the moment ladies.”

“Pri is with him, some of his army, and around a hundred of our people. They’re headed to… Brinegulch, Your Majesty,” Rionata reluctantly advised.

Queen Lura jumped out of her throne and hissed in her language. She and the other amazons had a heated dialogue for a few minutes before talking back in common.

“How can you be certain of him saving our people? That place is evil, a forsaken place of our people. Now, your princess is stuck in a place of no return with a hundred more of our people that will be captured. Whose idea was this!?” The queen screamed in fury.

“It was Max’s suggestion, he was advised to go now while the enemy was attacking us,” Nisa replied with trepidation.

“What imbecile would advise that?” Lura growled out through her teeth.

The amazons were hesitant is answering, so Sean spoke out. “Your Majesty, it was his Guardian that advised him.”

“What do you speak of? Speak clearly, for the life of your precious leader hangs in the balance. He doesn’t know who he is endangering, my only daughter, and our future queen,” Lura calmly stated, but the whole room was tense, and the wrong answer would bring chaos.

“Queen Lura, we didn’t know that Pri was a princess, let alone your only daughter," Sean calmly answered. "It was never mentioned, but she demanded to accompany him. To answer about the Guardian, Max is… special. ... He is accompanied by a Guardian of Giseria, Your Majesty,”

The queen was taken aback with his response, she stood in silence for a few moments before she responded. “You’re telling me that a Guardian is watching over Max, and that he converses with one. Is that what you’re saying, sir?”

He didn’t hesitate, “Yes, Your Majesty, it is.” The queen nodded and sat back down, not knowing how to reply to this discovery.

“I will have to meditate on this development. For now, we’ll discuss what our defensive plans are. After this, you four are telling me everything you know about Max, and I mean everything.”

Everyone nodded and talked about plans for a siege, the discussions lasted a couple of hours, and then they talked about Max for around four hours. The queen didn’t know what to say about what was described, especially the part about a Guardian watching over him. The man is a linchpin, and she needed to talk to him, soon.

That night she gazed upon a tapestry, one that she has looked at a million times since her reign started. The sister of it was in Brinegulch, just thinking of that place brought back painful memories, and to know that her Pri was there made her eyes start watering.

The next few days were spent in preparation for the upcoming battle. Guards were stationed throughout the city to make sure panic didn’t set in, trepidation was on everyone’s faces except those of Max’s army. They seemed to be calm and collected, everyone knew they had been in numerous battles before, and was happy they would lend them support in defense of their city.

Queen Lura watched out of a window from high in the palace. She watched as her people were preparing for an invading army, not knowing if they would live much longer. Movement had her eyes following the allies that showed up at her gates, the discipline they showed when organizing and planning had her wondering where these folk came from. Her thoughts went back to the human that was there leader, to want to know what kind of person that has the balls to lead the different races, and for them to have the kind of loyalty they have shown thus far. He has to be one special being, then a thought popped into her head. He could be a potential mate for her strong willed daughter. Although, a man like that would have numerous women as his mates, probably not something Pri would want, but that’s not what is important right now. She turned around to those that were coming into her chambers and waited in silence for their remarks to this intrusion.

“My Queen, our scouts have sighted the evil ones headed this way. It seems they will be here tomorrow.”

“Thank you, you’re dismissed.” She turned back toward the scene below and sighed, “So it begins.

Word was spread when the army would be here, and everyone started hustling to make sure they were ready. The army showed up two hours after dawn the next day: ogres, trolls, draugrs, warlocks, and wens. They totaled around four thousand and brought siege machines with them. Wyverns nor cyclops were seen at this time, but that didn’t mean anything, they could show up at any time. Ebondale was going to be in for a fight for their lives. The ballistae would keep the towers back, and archers would keep them busy too. The mages would try to control the warlocks, and hopefully the walls would hold.

Queen Lura, Rionata, Nisa, Sean, and Marie were looking out onto the battlefield, watching and waiting for the destruction to start.

“They’re starting. What kind of chance do we have, Rionata?” Lura asked with concern.

“If the walls hold, a good chance, but if the cyclops and wyverns show up, then our chances plummet, Your Majesty. The thirty foot walls won’t hold them and the machines that they have,” she answered with hesitation.

“Sean, Marie, if those wens get in, can you hold them back or kill them?” Lura questioned, but knew the answer before she asked.

“No, Your Majesty, the only beings that can handle them aren’t here, and they aren’t susceptible to magic unless the heart is separated from the body,” Sean replied while watching the siege begin.

Arrows, ballistae bolts, and magic filled the sky. Hours later the walls were holding, but siege towers were inching closer to walls but were met with arrows and magic. Both sides weren’t letting up, soon fatigue would set in, and considering the invaders outnumbered them, it didn’t take a genius to figure out who had the upper hand.

Projectiles were slamming into the walls, the mages were in a desperate battle with the warlocks, so they couldn’t keep all them from hitting the walls. They were still holding for the moment, but it wouldn’t be long before the walls came tumbling down. That was when the screeching and bellows were heard, and when the leaders looked to where the sounds came from, there demeanor went south. The Cyclops and Wyverns showed up and entered behind the invading army, twelve cyclops ranging from 20-25 ft tall and ten wyverns ranging from 35-45 ft in length.

“Shit, they showed up,” Rionata hissed in displeasure.

The newcomers didn’t wait at all, the cyclops came in force and hammered the walls, while the wyverns started letting loose with fire, enveloping everything in their way. Everyone tried to take cover, but it didn’t help some of them, people and buildings were burning. The ballistae were firing as fast as they could, but couldn’t bring any down. Arrows didn’t have any effect on either adversary, but they kept at it, hoping something would work out.

“Won’t be long now," Lura advised in an even tone. "They will be through the walls within the hour.”

“What can we do, Your Majesty!?” Nisa panicked.

Queen Lura turned towards Sean and Marie and replied, “Wait, and pray.”

The journey to Ebondale was long, but along the way we had made some makeshift spears for the amazons to use until they could pry the enemies weapons away from them. Everyone was anxious to get there but reluctant to find out what was still left. I had my ladies and kill crew around me as we came closer to our destination. Grom and his clan were closer now, trying not to make too much noise, but it couldn’t be helped.

“Damn, I hope we’re in time,” Pri said for the hundredth time. Nobody replied to her comment, but were saying the same thing in their head.

We heard the sounds when coming up on the horizon about a mile away. From our view point we could tell it had been going on for some time. We hustled as fast as we could to come within a thousand yards from the city, and when we saw what the dark ones brought, our hearts ended up in our stomachs.

“Fuck!!!” Pri screamed with fury.

“That’s a lot of evil in the way,” Acace commented.

I grunted and looked over the battlefield noticing that the wyverns and cyclops haven't arrived yet. That’s good for now, but I didn’t bet on them not showing. Sounds were heard to our west, so I went to investigate, and what I saw made me smile from ear to ear.

“Alpha, it’s good to see you well,” Gurak said as we embraced. Six hundred orcs, and eight hundred weres stood in formation, watching me.

“Gurak, damn glad to see you too, my friend. Sean sent you for reinforcements?”

“Yes, Alpha," he chuckled. "Gordon got them together, and was adamant about coming, but his woman and parents put a stop to that,”

“Duke Ackley is there?” I didn’t know what to think about that.

“Yes sir, they’re hashing out details about trade and how the hell you built something like that in secret,” he laughed and continued, “Also, I have a message from your folks, Gordon, and the Oakenshore group. I quote ‘You better bring your ass back in one piece.’”

I laughed for a few moments but got my head back in order. “Gurak, I won’t lie, it’s not pretty down there.

“We saw, how many do you have in the city?” He asked.

“Around three hundred of ours and whatever the Amazons have. I brought back over seven hundred though. Also if you didn’t know, cyclops and wyverns will join the dark ones shortly.

“Yes, we heard, how are we going to defeat that?” Gurak wondered.

“I have a few tricks up my sleeve. Get them into position and tell the squad leaders to get prepared.”

“Yes, Alpha!” Gurak barked orders and the squads began to get into position. I took my own advice and got the amazons prepared.

“Alright, we’ll wait until they take the walls down or the cyclops show up. Get ready!”

It wasn’t ten minutes later that we heard rumbling and screeching coming from the north east. The assholes showed up and they didn’t even wait. The one eyed shitheads went straight for the walls and started pounding on them. Cracks could be seen throughout the destruction the cyclops were bringing. The wyverns weren't holding back either, they spewed fire onto the walls and buildings with every run.

“Detha, think you can handle those shithead wyverns?”

“We will try, my drake,” she replied with some hesitation.

“Okay, hold them off for as long as you can, then when Grom takes care of his brethren, he will lend a hand. Sound good Grom?”

“We will provide assistance, young one,” Grom answered and helped calm Detha’s nerves.

“Detha, take your wing and make a run through the back of the army as you head off the wyverns.”

“It’s OUR,” she responded with a defiant behavior.

“Sorry?” I didn’t know what she was referring to.

“It’s our wing,” Detha indicated. I smiled and agreed to her statement.

“Ours.” She smiled, kissed me, and took the wing to shift. I was anxious to see what they would look like when they shifted. It should be interesting for sure, as will the vamps and hellhounds in action.

I took a few minutes to assess the situation again, the walls were crumbling, it’s time to announce our arrival. ‘My killing crew, it’s time to go to work. We’ll take out the wens first, then everyone else who is left.’

‘Yes, Alpha.” They replied in unison. We walked up to the outskirts of the battle and watched the fifty or so Wens in the front, ready to run inside the city.

‘Reap, Herc, we’re going in our shadow form.’

‘Let’s do it!’

“Hells to the yeah!’

‘Alright everyone, my crew will take the wens. When they’re focused on us, then everyone needs to join the party.’

‘Yes, Alpha!’

I looked at my ladies and the others around them. I smiled and winked to them, letting them know I’ll be fine.

I tried to pump up my peeps at that moment, ‘Detha, my sweet, take it to them.’ ‘My fellow weres, shift and get ready.’ “Grom, show em why they shouldn't fuck with Giants.”

His crew bellowed something in there language, and got prepared for battle. I took some time to prep for our arrival. Letting my magic out, it new what I wanted and I felt myself shift into my shadow form. It produced nine copies and brought Reaper and Hercules into our group as well. They stood beside me, waiting for a command. My hellhounds shifted and waited behind me as well.

Using the Cerberus tat, I summoned titanoboas, dire wolves, and hellhounds, ten of each. It took half-a-minute for them to all show up. When those links came into being, I also summoned three barghests. When they showed up, my mind took some time to get acquainted with all of the new links. During this time my chest started burning again, messing up my concentration, and after a few moments, I felt something move along my chest underneath my tunic. I was actually nervous to look, and really didn't have the time to investigate, so I ignored it for the time being. Grunting and trying to get past the pain, my brain got back on track as my ears heard gasps and shrieks from all around me. Some people moved away from the newcomers, others were gazing upon all the underworld creatures that just appeared.

'Alpha, you can summon from the underworld?" Doom asked in awe. The other hellhounds were shocked as well.

'That is so fuckin hot!' Storm shouted in glee as she looked upon her peeps.

I chuckled and commanded, 'Doom, get your brethren and let them know they are with us. The snakes and wolves will fight with the others, while the barghests will help with the cyclops.'

'Yes, Alpha!'

"Alpha, next time let us know before you summon anything," Cass suggested with her hands on her hips. "Then people won't freak out."

"I will take that into consideration," all ten of us replied with a smile, which freaked out the people around us again. I turned towards the battle and shouted, “Move out, let them know we’re here!” Roars, howls, screeches, and bellows shook the earth.

Sean and the others watched the enormous cyclops slam the walls relentlessly, soon they would be inside the city. The feeling of despair hung over them at that moment, waiting for the inevitable, but there troops kept on fighting, even though they knew it was pointless. The bravery and courage that was shown put pride in their hearts, showing they wouldn’t go down without a fight. Sean and Marie wanted to be down there to help, but was told by the queen to stay. This was not taken well, since the only one that they took orders from was there Alpha, but they did as asked, and it was taking a toll on them.

Loud crashes were heard, then walls began to fall and crumble before them. The city was about to fall, the inhabitants screaming and panicking, running to get away from the evil ones. Some were captured by the cyclops and eaten alive, others were burned by wyvern fire, and the leaders’ hopes were lost.

“I never thought it would happen during my reign," Queen Lura announced in an ominous manner. "I figured we had more time, but alas, our final moments of freedom are at an end.”

The others looked at her and nodded their agreements when roars, howls, and screeches were heard from afar. The whole battlefield stopped to look at what made those noises, movement came from the forest and the sky above, and what came out made their hearts jump for joy. Amazons, orcs, weres, giants, dragons, and other creatures have joined the fight. The invaders turned to see what was interfering with their prey.

The smiles on Sean, Marie, Rionata, and Nisa said it all, they knew who had arrived.

“Alpha has arrived, and it looks like he brought some friends along,” Sean chuckled.

“Only he could make an entrance like this,” Marie stated, shaking her head.

“He’s been busy, bringing together dragons and giants is no small feat,” Rionata stated with a grin.

“How is this possible? I haven’t seen this since the dark wars,” Lura whispered but everyone heard the words.

“Welcome to our world, Your Majesty," Sean replied. "Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have somewhere to be.”

“Where are you going?” She curiously asked.

“Begging your pardon, Majesty, but only one person commands us, and he’s right down there,” Sean pointed to the battlefield.

She smiled and responded, “Take your leave then, my friends.” Sean and Marie were walking out of the room, Rionata and Nisa followed. “Rionata, Nisa, you too?”

They smiled and Rionata answered, “We want to be part of this momentous occasion, he inspires us to be better, Your Majesty.”

The queen could only nod at her response, when they left she could only wonder how in only a short amount of time this man had the respect of her people.

The dragons made a few runs over the army and spewed fire on the invaders and machines, destroying most of them, then headed towards the wyverns to take them on. Grom and his crew went straight to their brethren, even though they were not even in number, the giants were bigger and stronger. It also helped that the barghests were there to help. The cyclops headed towards their brethren, forgetting the prey for now. The rage at seeing their foes were seen on their faces. Grom and company had brought with them huge tree clubs, and they used them to their advantage. The blows they were dealing made everyone watching cringe with the sounds made by them, but the cyclops weren’t giving up that easy. They may have been smaller but that made them quicker. Once Grom and his clan got the advantage on their brethren, they manhandled the cyclops, and it wasn’t long before bellows and screams were heard from bodies being broken.

Watching the match between the giants and cyclops got me fired up. I was chomping at the bits to get in there. When I knew for sure that the wyverns and cyclops weren’t focused on us, we joined the party.

‘What do ya say we involve ourselves and put those bastards down?’

‘Yes, ALPHA!’ My group yelled in blood thirst, ready for battle.

We walked to the front, letting the assholes see us. The wens stared at us and screeched, so I answered back with a roar, which my group followed. The fifty wens walked towards us as we slowly walked towards them, but our group went to a trot after ten steps, and then a full out sprint.

‘KILL EM!’ I screamed as we slammed into the nasty creatures.

My crew crashed into the evil creatures, screams and screeches filled the air. It was a free for all, and the spectators cringed at the body parts being pulled or cut off. The other part of the army didn't stay out of it for long, convinced that the heavy hitters were busy, they entered the battle with shouts, howls, and roars.

The same sounds were heard coming from within the city, reinforcements were coming to help. Working together, the orcs, weres, amazons, and mages took care of the rest of the invaders. Dead bodies were everywhere, including fatalities from the defenders, but they couldn’t dwell on that right now, mourning would come later.

My crew and I were finishing up with the wens when roars and screeching came from the sky, looking up I found my wing in trouble with the wyverns. Only four of the pricks were taken care of which left six to deal with. The girls were getting pummeled, gashes were all over their bodies. I looked over to Grom and his crew, they were still handling business with the cyclops, but wouldn’t be in time to help.

Turning back to finish the wens, the last few went down in a heap of gore. I didn’t have time to think about that when loud crashes came from behind me. Two of my girls were down, not knowing if they were okay I saw another one get hit from all sides and thrown to the ground. I was watching some fuckers hurt my people. Oh hell no, these assholes were gonna die. I felt rage like I have never known before, it was rolling off me like a thick fog making my body shake and convulse. After almost a minute, I collapsed and hit the ground hard, still jerking and shuddering.

‘Alpha, what’s wrong?’ Doom asked, concerned.

‘Max? Baby?’ Storm spoke out.

‘He’s going into some sort of shock,’ Shade stated.

‘Love, calm down, you’re freakin everyone out,’ Soph suggested with worry in her voice.

I slammed my eyes closed as I started screaming in pain, and after a few moments, my chest felt like it would explode and my insides would fall to the ground. The rest of my body stared making these popping and hissing sounds, and as these things were happening, I couldn't even open my eyes to see what was going on.

‘Boss! What the fuck is wrong?’ Frank shouted.

‘Something’s wrong with him!’ Cass screamed in horror when they saw I was full of holes, fire coming out of them.

After what felt like hours, but was only a few minutes, my eyes shot open as my magic threw a dome over me. I looked down, and noticed scales showing up all over my body. What the fuck? Something was fuckin happening to me. Suddenly, I felt a presence near me.

'Chosen, you have accepted my bond. I wasn't sure that you would after the incident that happened in Brinegulch.'

I gasped out in pain, 'What are you talking about, Nicas?'

He replied, 'I tried to bond with you at that time, but you rejected me. But that's all in the past, look at your body closely, what do you see?'

That took me by surprise, my guardian tried to bond with me. Why? Well, if it will help in the long run then by all means, I will bond with him. Shaking my head from those thoughts, I looked again at my body, harder this time, but still could only see the scales, 'I see scales are covering my body. They look like familiar.'

'Good, now you know what I am ...or was. Dragonborn, a golden to be exact.'

'Damn man, is that what is happenning to me? Am I shifting into a dragon?'

He was silent for a few moments before replying, 'Yes. Your wing needs you.'

I grunted and thought about what he was saying, 'I have no idea what to do if that happens.'

'Don't worry, I will help with the transition and if it comes down to it, I'll deal with the wyverns.'

'How will you accomplish that?'

He chuckled and said, 'By taking over your body of course, well, with your permission. I will feed you with my magic, so that you won't pass out at this time.'

'When this is over, we are going to have a long discussion.'

'I understand.'

I had no alternative, so taking a deep breath, I just let go and allowed the bond to happen. The pain got a hundred times worse, my body felt like it was about to rip apart, and at that moment I knew that it was changing. Jerking my head back, I screamed in pain for at least a minute, and then suddenly it turned into a roar. My body tore apart right down the seams, letting something out that grew continuously, and the dome somehow knew to expand with me.

The pain finally subsided when my body stopped growing, I opened my eyes to the shocking revelation of being really, really tall, but that wasn’t the most astounding feature, I had wings. Massive wings.

'Looking good, boss.'

I didn't respond. My body and mind felt different, it was like moving around in someone else’s body. I shook my head trying to get my mind right.

‘Nicas?’

‘Yes, chosen?’

‘This is grand and all, but why now?’

‘You were given a gift from the gods of this world. They allowed me to bond with you, knowing that you will need the magic when you battle the demons. You are now a dragonborn, that is how Detha and the others are able to bond with you. If you look, you have new links including mine.'

I did look and saw that he was correct, I shook my head at this whole situation.

Nicas continued, 'And since you are now a dragonborn, your dragon knows when your bonded are in trouble. The rage you're feeling right now is for vengeance upon those who have harmed them. Use that rage inside you to take care of those who have hurt your wing. Instinct will guide you, don’t worry about how and why, just fulfill what it desires; killing them.’

‘Yeah... thanks for the pep talk. When we finish this, how will this affect me this time? Will I pass out again?

‘I would plan on it. Your body has changed drastically.'

I started laughing, ‘My mates are going to kill me if I keep doing this to them. Okay, I will see what I can do.’

‘When the time is right, I will be able to provide assitance. Also, when this is over, we will need to leave and find a private area so you can get used to your new form. Alone.’

Shit, that will go over real well with everyone. ‘Alright, let's do this.’

Well, looks like I’m about to freak more people out. I collapsed the dome so my eyes could scan the area around me, and saw another one of my dragons fall out of the sky. I activated my magic with a thought, fire and lightning flowed down my body like it was meant to live there, my wings spread out to who knows how far, and ROARED as I took off to the sky.

***MINUTES EARLIER***

Everyone had shifted back and watched the white dome, hearing a battle behind them.

"What is going on!?" Rach shouted, hoping someone would have an answer. Reap and Herc were just sitting, watching the dome that Max had created around himself.

‘Reap, Herc, do you have a clue of what’s happening to him?’ Val asked, worry in her voice.

‘No, and we can’t talk to him, or feel him at the moment,’ Herc replied calmly.

‘He is blocking us out,' Reap responded, never looking away from the dome. 'Something major is going on with him and his mind.’

“Please, please, let him be okay,” Tia whispered. The girls embraced each other as the dragons were still in combat with the wyverns, some of the giants went over to help out with them. For the moment, they were too concerned to worry about them, their mate was down and nobody knew how to help him.

“My goddess!" Frank yelled. "Look, the dome is expanding!”

Everyone turned and observed as the dome grew until it was the size of the keep at SafeHaven. The spectators were concerned and fearful of what was happening inside, it stayed that size for minutes, and not a person took their eyes off it. Then it collapsed, but instead of seeing Max, they looked upon a massive golden dragon. It moved its enormous head around to gaze at the site of the battle still going on. As another dragon fell out of the sky, the golden drake growled, white fire and lightning streamed down its body. Everyone around screamed in fear. The heat was so intense that they had to move away, and then it roared. The earth trembled when it took off into the sky.

“HOLY SHIT!” Jacob shouted.

“Look at the size of that drake," Acace commented in awe. "It has to be 80ft long, and the wingspan is at least twice that much.”

“That has to be the biggest dragon I’ve ever seen. Where the hell did it come from, and where’s Max?” Pri responded in concern. They looked over to where the dome had been and found his clothing ripped into pieces.

“I think that drake is Max," Cass said in a low voice. "Didn’t Viki say that he had almost shifted into a dragon?”

“Yes, she did,” Kali answered. “This is amazing!”

Everyone around the battlefield and in the city watched as it flew towards the nearest wyvern. It didn’t stop as it rammed its adversary, knocking it off course. Max grabbed the wyvern around the neck with his talons, and let his lightning run down its legs into his captive. The wyvern shrieked, trying to get out of the grip that the golden drake had on it, but it was too late, its body was paralyzed. It was held down while it basically was being electrocuted, soon the air was filled with burnt flesh, but Max continued on until the creature’s head blew apart. He flung the dead body and it landed with a loud crash. The four remaining wyverns saw what was happening, and flew towards him. Max hovered in the air, he didn't seem to be worried about the vicious beings headed his way.

“What the hell is he doing?” Rach asked in fear of her mate.

“It looks like he’s taking them all on at once,” Frank replied in a confusing manner.

“Why the hell would he do that?” Cass bellowed. Nobody knew the answer to that question, they just watched, warily.

When they were within thirty feet of the golden drake, his fire grew out from his body like he was set ablaze, and let loose a torrent of fire out of its mouth, swinging his neck from left to right. They all thought it was a decoy move, everyone knew that wyverns were fireproof, but when he was done with the stream of fire, loud shrieks came from the wyverns. Shock was the emotion across the battlefield as four bodies were on fire in the air, the wyverns were desperately trying to extinguish the flames, but to no avail.

Max flew over to the closet one and slung his tail at its head, landing a fatal blow. The spikes on his clubbed tail were embedded in its skull, and it died instantly. He went to the next one in line and while it was still trying to put out the fire, he swiped across the throat of his next prey, ripping its throat out. The other two were trying to fly away, still ablaze, so it was easy for Max to catch up with the first one, and slam his tail down on the face of the next victim. The wyvern slammed into the ground, not moving, and Max eyed the last one with contempt. He flew over and gouged his talons into his prey; the creature shrieked, fighting Max with all the energy it had left, but he evidently didn’t feel any of it. Suddenly the golden drake opened its maw, bit down on the neck of his target, and pulled with all his strength. The shrieks continued to get louder until its head was ripped from its body, Max let go of the dead wyvern and spit out the head, both landed on the ground below the gold drake.

“Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn, that’s a mean motherfucker right there,” Shade commented in awe.

“Yeah, Alpha is lethal, but that was on a whole other level,” Jacob said in a low voice.

Nobody else spoke, they watched as Max picked up the dead wyverns and put them into pile. He landed a few feet away, and blew fire onto the pile as he walked around in a circle until he got back to where he started. Scanning the area, Max looked around to see if the battle was over, and it was, though every living being was watching the gold drake in the middle of the battlefield, towering over everything. The white eyes, fire, and lightning were frightening as hell, but for him to be able to use fire to kill fireproof creatures was unheard of. The dragonesses limped over to him, when he saw them he strolled over. The drake nuzzled with the other dragons for a few moments, letting them know he was worried. Afterwards, he walked over to make sure the pile was ash before turning towards the crowd, noticing how quiet the area was. Looking over at his mates he bowed to them, and roared again. The spectators had to cover their ears to keep them from bursting, then the drake took off into the sky and flew away.

‘Reap, Herc, let them know I’ll be back as soon as I can, my rage is too much, and I can’t control it.’

‘Will do boss, just so you know, that was badass,’ Herc replied with a chuckle.

‘Where are you going, Max? They will want to know,’ Reap questioned.

‘Tell them I’m not sure, but will return when it’s safe. I have a new bond and need to come to terms with it. I know that won’t stop them from being worried or angry, but it’s the best I can do for now.’

‘We’ll tell em,’ Reap replied watching the young man fly away. He has changed so much in a short amount of time.

People walked up to the duo.

“Where is he going?” Kali asked with some concern.

“Is he leaving?” Pri questioned why he would do that, but she didn’t understand half of his life anyway.

“Reap, Herc, why is he leaving?” Cass asked the duo.

‘He is full of rage and anger right now, it isn’t safe around him at the moment,’ Herc answered with clarity.

“That can’t be the only reason guys,” Tia wondered if something was wrong.

‘Nicas, brother, I’m assuming you had a talk with him within the dome?’ Reap asked the guardian, not sure if he should be the one to tell the others about his new bond.

‘Yes, brother, we had a discussion. It seems the gods have bestowed Max with a gift. No one has ever changed into a dragon form, unless born to it.’

‘What else did you talk about? The rage couldn’t be the only reason why he left,’ Cass responded with curiosity.

‘His body was just hit with a massive shock due to his new bond. Max will need time to recuperate and will likely be gone for a few days, if not more. His body won’t return to normal until he accepts this gift, and is in the right state of mind.’

“Are you saying that it will likely be something when he took mana from the earth?” Val growled out.

“How will he keep himself safe? Last time he was out five days, he didn’t move at all, and wouldn’t be able to fight off anything,” Soph stated.

“Did you not see how fuckin massive he is? There isn’t anything around here that will mess with him at the moment,” Frank commented firmly.

'Wait, wait, wait! You said he has a new bond. Who did he bond with?' Cass demanded.

'... me.'

Gasps were heard from everyone involved.

Frank cleared his throat and asked carefully, 'Then we can assume that you're a dragonborn?'

'You are correct.'

No one said anything for a minute or so.

‘Nicas, thank you for the information,’ Reap said as he bowed his head.

‘No problem. To the answer of who will watch over him, it will be me. I will let you know of any developments ladies. Farewell!’

“Thank you!” The ladies replied in unison
