Silence filled the whole arena. The people in the crowd were holding their breath in anticipation of what was going to happen next.
At the other side of the arena, where the participants were gathered, two figures could be seen fidgeting around urgently.
"Sis, Lenin is still not here!"
Aina bit deep into her lower lip.
"I think he's still in the training compartment. But it has been three days. I'm really worried"
Aina, who was usually calm and collected, was now nervous and worried.
'When I asked Lenin what skill he had gotten, he was reluctant to tell me. Could it have been a dangerous skill? Should I have stopped him? I just wanted to trust him!'
To her, Lenin was like a brother, she couldn't be bare to see him hurt.
Brian was also very worried. He was really frustrated.
Trisha, who was sitting with her mother, could not understand why she was so calm. Lenin had still not arrived. He would be disqualified and severely punished if he didn't show up! Trisha turned to her mother.
"Mom, in the letter Lenin sent a few days ago, didn't he say that he found a way to disguise his god f-... I mean energy force? Why-"
"Dear! I told you not to worry. Your brother will make it in time!"
.........
Pant.... Pant...
Kira, who could barely move, was breathing heavily. She was trying her best to think of a solution, but nothing came up. Was she really going to lose?
"Its over!"
Mikel said.
"3rd circle magic, Frozen blood Spikes!"
Puchi!
Ice crystals pierced through Kira's body from the inside out.
"AAARGGGH!!!!"
After a loud howl she fainted from the pain.
"Mikel Crosgo wins this round!"
The crowd burst into a huge clamor. This battle didn't turn out how most of them had assumed. An Amano was beaten! The was just too shocking.

Mikel walked out of the stage while slightly limbing. A group of paramedics appeared with a stretcher. They placed Kira on it and sent her to the infirmary.
"Now, we move on to the next match! Number 89 and Number 100, come forward"
A brunette elf, who had folded her arms perked at the sound of Number 89. It was Aina! With her bow hanging at her back, she swaggered to the stage. She wore a black outfit that made her look like a ninja without a mask.
"Aina Trem from Class 1-D, here!"
After that, another girl who was probably number 100 appeared. She wore a blue gown that fluttered beautifully in the wind. She was well composed and had great manners. When she opened her mouth to speak, a sweat melodious voice was heard.
Her voice was like the sweet call of a siren.
"Cindy Wood from Class 1-B is here"
"Since the two fighters are here, let the match begin" Ms. Fleek said with enthusiasm.
She wasn't the only person pumped up, the whole arena was full of energy. It seemed the first battle had really made the crowd happy.
The two girls stood before each other. They stared heavily at each other. Cindy was the first to speak;
"You are Aina I presume? Do not think that just because a student from Class 1-F defeated a student from Class 1-A you can also defeat me. Kira is a disgrace to higher tier practitioners."
Aina looked straight into the eyes of Cindy.
"I'm not in the mood for this. Let's get this over with"
Aina was already worried sick about Lenin and didn't want to be bothered.
"Oh? Is that all you have to say? Then I will say this, in front of absolute power nothing else matters!"

"Yes. You are right. In front of absolute power, nothing else matters!"
With this, Aina's qi burst forth. It was as if a dam had been broken. The pressure from the qi caused mini tornadoes.
Cindy, who was the closest to Aina, was forced to her knees.
"Hoh. You are still standing?"
Aina raised a questioning brow.
The pressure increased. Cindy was trying with all her might to resist, but to no avail. She fell flat onto the ground.
Cindy gritted her teeth. She gathered her mental energy and tried to use telekinesis to get up from the ground. She was successful... For a while.
Boom!
She fell back hard into the ground.
"I, I... I give up!"
"Come again?"
"I GIVE UP!"
Aina released the pressure. Ms. Fleek jumped onto the platform.
"Aina Trem from Class 1-D wins!"
Aina turned around and gracefully walked away.
As she walked away, Ms. Fleek stared at her back.
'This girl. The aura she just released. It wasn't that she was stronger than Cindy. No! In fact, Cindy was stronger than her. How did a student get 'that' skill?'
The crowd was in a stupor. They didn't know what to think about the event that just transpired.
'What's going on?'
'I don't understand! These first years are all abnormal!'
'This wasn't how the other ranking battles were!'
"Okay, okay. Silence! On to the next match!"
.........
Time passed by quickly as matches were initiated. In the blink of an eye, it was evening and the first day had come to an end.
"Okay! That's it for today. The next battles will continue from tomorrow!"
Ms. Fleek announced to the audience.
Trisha placed a hand on her chest as she sighed heavily.
'Phew. Brother's turn wasn't today. I hope he comes tomorrow.'
Aina and Brian stood prepared to leave the arena.
"It seems you and Lenin didn't have your first turn today. I wonder what skill takes so long to learn!"
"Hah! Let's hope he makes it here tomorrow"
Princess Swallow-heaven teleported away from the arena. She arrived in her office. Her office was dark and had a gloomy feeling. She had a smile plastered on her face.
'Humph! I can't believe this. That brat is so lucky!"
...........
In a training compartment somewhere in the school, the presence of a chaotic energy could be felt. A training compartment was also widely know as a seclusion chamber.
A youth with glossy blonde hair sat crossed legged in the middle of the room. Sweat beaded his brows. It almost seemed as if a bucket of water was poured on him.
His eyes were closed as if he was focused on something. The energy in the room was heavy. It seemed like a monster was about to awaken.
His eyes slowly fluttered open.
A boom sound echoed as his chaotic energy became more stable.
His golden irises shined brightly.

8 92The Rite of Sanctuary
Dozens, if not hundreds of worlds were destroyed or damaged by what amounted to a industrial accident on a higher level of existence. Many people and places however, were saved at the last instant and hastily slammed together into a makeshift world held together with magic and hope. The director was assigned to keep the whole thing going and stole the idea of a RPG driven system as a placeholder set of natural laws. One he is constantly having to apply ad hoc fixes and updates on the fly. The main character and the church he worked at end up being one of the places from modern earth that got saved. Possibly updating Saturday and Sunday if my schedule stays the same

8 208Of Sheep & Sisters (Tales of the Axe Book 2)
The indominatable Fraker the Axe returns! This time in the company of his older sister, this collection of short stories set in the fantasy Six Worlds of Shtar is a tongue in cheek look at what a great hero gets up to in between the times of legends and when prophecy isn't really telling him what to do. From a kitten and a rosebush, to a civil war, Fraker stumbles from one "adventure" to the next, never quite comfortable with the world outside the battlefield he was bred for.
