《Vigilantes Make Us Safe: Rebel Rebel》Rebel Rebel Define Success Part 11

Twenty minutes later Ryaan finds himself underneath an old station wagon sliding around on a creeper. Auto body class is one of the hours he looks forward to each day. He’s good at it and this is a lot more fun than math problems. He’s working on the vehicle’s exhaust when he hears a couple of seniors he doesn’t know well talking nearby. “The next shipment comes in tomorrow night. They want us out there watching things. The pay will be really good if everything goes well and we just need to keep an eye out.”
Ryaan stops his work on the car, not wanting the noises of his tools to stop him from hearing something important. This sounds worth hearing. He rolls a little further underneath the vehicle so they don’t notice him. “I don’t know man, this is kind of dangerous isn’t it? If they want us to keep an eye out for someone that means they think someone might show up. What if the cops show? I can’t go to jail. My parents will kick my ass if I get arrested. Plus, I don’t think I’d do good in jail. I’m too pretty.”
“That’s not going to happen asshole. We’re just a couple of guys hanging out. We won’t even have weapons. We’re just going to have our phones and let them know if someone’s coming. We’re not the muscle. I mean, look at you man, no one things you’re going to beat anyone up.”
“Screw you man. I could take someone.” Ryaan can only see his legs but he shifts around. “Alright, I’m in. What time do I need to be there?”
“Just meet at my house at eight. We’re driving over to Beach Street. They’ll tell us where we need to be at that point.”

The two wander off and Ryaan rolls out from under the car. This sounds like something big going down in the neighborhood. Beach Street’s only a couple miles from his house but it’s not a short street and there’s a lot of places they could be meeting. He tries to think of locations that make sense but the only area standing out’s the warehouse district. Other than that, there’s just a lot of shops and not much to see except some houses and apartments.
That’s not a lot to go on so he follows the pair, trying to memorize what these guys look like. If he can find them, he can find whatever’s going down. They don’t pay attention to him but Ryaan’s not close enough to hear anything else they say.

El's Revenge
“Revenge is not for the dead- we, as the living, take revenge to relieve the burden we feel,” I whispered into the air. “Salvation for the people who suffered because of you,” I watched as the city burned in the flames. “Salvation for the people like me, who believed in the proclaimed heroes when in reality they were the devils.” I smiled faintly as the ‘holy land’ of those ‘saints’ was destroyed. I heard rustling sounds as Charlotte came to stand next to me, grabbing my hand. “El, are we the bad guys?” If I was still the same as I was before, I might’ve broken down and started crying. Now, it was different. “A villain is just another victim. They cry and mourn, it’s just that no one heard, leading them into madness. It’s one of the reasons why we know the most, but care the least.” I took a deep breath. “We may be the bad guys in other peoples’ eyes, but in my story, we’re the heroes.” Charlotte took in my words for a while and pondered, before nodding in agreement. “As children, we loved the heroes, as adults we understand the villains.” I looked at her and bonked her on the head, earning an angry glare from her. “Hey! You’re barely an adult yourself you know,” she grumbled. I laughed and ruffled her hair, before countering her. “At least I’m not 12. You can’t even be considered a teenager at that age.” After that, we silently watched the flames ravage the land, before leaving.
