《B.L.A.N.K- The search for the meta》Olaf out loud

I got used to the weight of the wooden sword as I walked. Swinging it a few times to become accustomed to the feel of it cutting the air. I checked the info on the sword.
Wooden Training Sword- Quest item
Damage- N/A
Durability-N/A
Training sword used for practice.
Hmm, what is N/A? Is that zero or unlimited? Let's check the quest info.
Quest-Prove Yourself-Repeatable
10 hits in 20 seconds on Olaf. You must hit hard enough for it to be considered a hit.
Durnnit, my strength may not be high enough. No matter, it's repeatable so I can try again if I fail.
I found Olaf in an alley next to the tavern as the mayor said. He was a tall, lanky, skinny man with a scraggly blond beard. His beard still had traces of his possible last meal stuck in it.
He's didn't seem very impressive, but then again neither did I.
All I have to do is fight him, right? Well, might as well have some fun.
I pointed to Olaf and yelled, " Hey Olaf, you drunk slob, come face me! "
I held the sword out in challenge.
I could see the fire light up in his eyes as his anger began to swell. He faced me and yelled, " What did you call me kid! "
I laughed at him, and screamed, " I called you a lazy drunken piece of trash! What are you gonna do about it? "
He was up in an instant with his sword drawn. His voice was harsh as he screamed, " I'll kill you! "
Wait, he has a real sword. Shouldn't he have a wooden one? Maybe I shouldn't have taunted him.
Like a bull, Olaf charged, bringing his sword down in an overhead chop. I stepped to the left and the strike hit the air. My counterattack was already in motion as I swung my sword with two hands into his face.

A countdown timer had begun when the battle started counting down the 20 seconds.
My sword connected with his jaw and forced him to stumble. No damage numbers popped up, but it displayed a hit in the corner of my eyesight. 1/10
I stepped back in front of him, once again holding my sword out in the challenge.
Olaf rubbed his jaw and said, "Oww! You little shit, that hurt! ".
He swung his sword in a horizontal slash aimed at my waist, his rage made it apparent that he was attempting to cut me in half.
I dropped into a roll to avoid the slash, closing the gap between us. Using my forward momentum I channeled this force into my sword. I struck from below into his crotch. 2/10
Olaf bellowed in pain and dropped to his knees. This sword didn't cause damage but it did cause pain, so I aimed for the vital points.
Wasting no time I struck three more times. Once into his neck and twice to the back of the head. 5/10
I spun into perfect position behind him. As Olaf tried to turn, I simply moved with him. I stayed behind him and struck him in the back of the head constantly.
Thump! Thump! Thump! 8/10
The hollow sound of wood smashing mercilessly into bone reverberated throughout the alley.
Players passing by were dumbstruck by the sight of a child making a grown man cry out in pain.
The countdown timer still showed 10 seconds left when the quest was complete, but I didn't feel like stopping.
My frustration at being made a child came bubbling out in the form of physical rage.
I struck over and over making Olaf beg for mercy as he cried out. I knew no mercy and planned on continuing until the countdown ended, but a strange thing happened.

After 20 strikes Olaf reached his pain threshold and passed out.
Ding! Quest complete! Please return to the mayor.
This was incredible! Who knew such a thing was even possible. Zero damage added a thousand times is still zero. The sword is still doing something. That must mean that the game has a hidden pain stat for AI and possibly players. I need to find a way to keep this sword it could be useful. I looked at the unconscious Olaf and wondered if he had anything valuable on him. I checked his pockets and to my surprise it let me loot him!

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.

Is Lucas Destined to Die in the New World?
Lucas imagined himself doing grander things in life; after all, he put in his own blood, sweat, and tears, and got himself a master's degree in English. Maybe he'd be the next best-selling author, or maybe the most popular late night TV show host. However, life didn't give him anything more than a management position at the local burger joint. Day in and day out, he flipped burgers, swept floors, and made weekly schedules that his employees ignored. All he had known for the past five years of his life was pure misery. Then after one night of drunken revelry, he found himself in an unfamiliar world, but he knew all the gimmicks. He knew these stories had quirks he could manipulate- he could put all his stats into magic and become the best wizard in the world, or he could dump all his stats into strength and become a veritable warrior. But once again, just like Earth, this new world seemed to have different plans for him. Instead, he was given a luck stat of 0 and a skill that forced him into danger where there should have been none. Why is this nerdy, magical paradise trying to kill him? Content warnings are there to give me some creative legroom later. There's not an excess of any gruesome content in the story, and what is there is tastefully sprinkled in. This is a LitRPG. Updates are twice a week on Mon/Fri plus some extras here and there.
