《Chronicles of Nirn》Chapter 8 - Hahna

(AN: This chapter was kinda edited???)
A golden haze covered the green fields of Cyrodiil.
The quiet rustling of leaves in the breeze gave off a calming atmosphere.
As the sun slowly set, the laughter of small children was heard.
Even without a single city in sight, a small clearing could be seen, nestled between a few trees.
A large figure walked toward the camp, carrying a goat on his shoulders.
Two young children stopped playing in the clearing, and ran over to the figure in delight.
“Pa, you’re back!” one of them said, with an excited look on his face.
The figure chuckled.
“Yes, Frey, I’m back.”
A short, slim figure stepped into view.
She smiled at the father, and greeted him quietly.
The lively scene became darker and more foreboding as the sun set.
“Father! Tell us a story!” the other child says, looking hopeful.
“Okay,” he chuckled, looking amused. “Come here.”
The twins both gathered around eagerly, with interested faces.
Their mother stood by, watching as she sharpened her katana.
“So what month is it,” he started off.
“First Seed, of course,” Frey said, with a confused look on his face.
“That’s right. Now look up at the sky.”
The children did, but their confusion only increased.
“Look over there, by where the sun set.”
“What’s over there Pa?” the little girl asked, her confusion growing rapidly.
“That’s where this month’s constellation is,” he replied.
“You see, every month there is a different constellation. People are given different signs depending on which constellation they were born under.”
“Wow,” Freyja said, completely immersed.
“Right now, we have the Lord constellation, which is one of the Warrior’s charges. It always comes in First Seed.”
“What’s a charge?” Frey asked.

“There are three guardian constellations. The Warrior, Mage, and Thief, and they each guard three charges. They each have their own month.”
“There are twelve total of the ones we see every night, but the Serpent stalks them all, trying to devour the charges. The guardians always stop them though, that’s their job.”
Both children nodded vigorously, looking very interested.
“What sign do I have?” Frey asked.
“You were born during Evening Star, which is when the Thief dwells the skies. It is said to give a person good luck.”
“Cool!”
“I myself was born as a Steed, that’s why I met your mother. She has the Apprentice.”
“What does that mean?” Freyja said.
“The Steed is restless and likes traveling, and the Apprentice has both an affinity and a weakness to magic,” the father said, looking amused.
“Is that why she likes magic?”
“Yes, It’s part of the reason why she’s a spellblade.”
The father sighed, and looked wistfully at the sky, as though wanting something else up there.
The mother walked over, and sat by him.
“Eirik, should we tell them what else comes with the Thief?”
They both looked worried, and deep in thought.
“Not yet. You know what happened to Ailidh.”
She nodded, with a sorrowful look on her face.
“She was only thirteen . . .”
“What are you talking about Ma?” Frey asked, with a mildly confused expression.
“Nothing you need to worry about, Frey,” she replied, plastering a smile over her grief-stricken face.
He shrugged, and went to go play with Freyja.
As the children eventually got tired out, their parents kept talking throughout the dark night, the stars moving slowly through the sky.
–
The blue sky compliments a peaceful environment, small cloud patches drifting lazily across it.

The green forest is still, with almost no wind.
Despite the calming atmosphere though, faint shouts can be heard, and the sound of carts rattling over stone paved roads disrupts the environment.
Several startled birds fly up through the trees, escaping what might be a dangerous threat.
As the carts continue steadily through a small town, a disturbing sound occasionally comes from the mountains beyond the trees.
A large array of soldiers guard the execution.
The distant sounds become louder, and a large black figure comes quickly from behind them.
It’s thundering wings disrupt what was going to be a somewhat peaceful mass murder.
Large, red eyes give off satisfaction as the village crumbles beneath the sky.
–
I wake up yet again, and immediately start freaking out.
‘Why can’t I just enjoy a single full night of sleep!?’ I think to myself, trying not to scream
‘This is getting out of hand, especially since I keep having different variations of that one dream.’
‘And why did I have to remember that one time with the constellations? Why would I even imagine that? There aren’t any stars over here!’
After another few minutes of very loud and buzzing thoughts, I finally calm down.
That is, right before Frey lets out a huge snore, quickly startling me.
‘Ugh, life hates me.’
I roll over on the bed, and try to get comfortable to sleep again.
Unfortunately for me though, my thoughts like to keep me occupied.
I quietly grumble, and lose another few hours of sleep, before finally being able to rest.

The Voice of the World
Jason Elric used to be an ordinary college student living in the heart of San Francisco. He had a part time job, he played online games with friends he got along moderately well with, and he earned reasonably good grades. The worst he really had to worry about in life was turning in his coursework on time and not being late to class. Now, though? Now fighting for his life and running from a horde of giant frogs that want to make him their next meal is just another Tuesday. Thanks to a summoning ritual gone terribly right, Jason has found himself trapped in a world eerily similar to the role playing games games he used to play for fun. Unfortunately for the now ex-college student, everything happening around him is terrifyingly real and if he wants to survive, he’ll have to figure out how to exploit the system for his benefit before it’s too late. The Voice of the World is the first part of what is planned to be a multi-book, Isekai LitRPG story with crafting elements, set in the fantasy world known as Verdania. This is my first time posting online for public consumption, so bear with me as I work to find a style that people like. While I may occasionally write scenes that may deal with heavy concepts, expect this story to be primarily light hearted high fantasy. There will be a lot of common fantasy tropes involved, as this story got its start as a simple practice exercise, rather than any plan to actually post it. However, it’s grown on me, so I felt it’s worth sharing after all. Thus, if you’re looking for more serious/original/unusual stories, you might want to look elsewhere. For the rest of you, feel free to leave suggestions, as well as to point out grammar and spelling mistakes; I’ll do my best to make edits to correct them. I do my own editing currently, and it’s easy to miss things when you know what’s supposed to be there, so such call outs are highly encouraged. Content TLDR: No harems, probably no romance (unless it makes sense for the story later on) (it did, eventually), definitely no sex (keeping this PG-13 or close to it), limited profanity. Does/Will contain mixes of magic and technology (think Warhammer, Final Fantasy); copious amounts of blue tables; race, gender, and sexual equality concepts; crafting sequences; and (slightly, but not overbearingly) strong protagonists. If you don’t like these things, go elsewhere instead of downvoting people for content instead of writing quality. Update Time currently varies, due to personal injury, but the goal is 1/week on Wednesdays, with a possible smaller chapter on weekends if time/health permits.

Soar above those who made her into a pawn and take them down, sparing no one. ***Author's Note: This is an alternate version of China replacing the Western and Eastern Jin Dynasties. The Weiyang Palace in Chang'an and the Southern and Northern palaces in Luoyang are real, and I have tried to keep the various halls and their purposes historically accurate. The Nanning Palace and Lihua Palace don't exist in real life.*** *Daiyu's Ascent is a wuxia novel.* *Is not a fanfic* © All rights reserved

8 190Almost a Good Person
A memory, a memory of a boy who wanted more than pain, of a girl who wanted more than death, and an Isle that should not exist. The Isle of Red is a small, unassuming, quiet place. It is just large enough for a college, a small town, and maybe even a few more unusual sorts of places. Of course, the townsfolk practically know each other as family. Flush-faced regulars can be found toasting just about anything in the Briar's Brew, then, a few streets away, the same haggle of older women stationed themselves on their perch as they did every day from one of the few balconies in Central Square. They fuss away now, spouting the usual gossip as they watch us all from on high. Then there is the College here on the Isle of Red. My college. It has been often described as an unusual place by a good deal of people on the mainland. If they only would visit -why I am sure they'll soon have a change of heart, they may even come to find it a quaint sort of place, odd but in the same way a tattered old quilt can be both odd looking and warm, and especially soft. We teach mostly the same sort of disciplines here, with fantastic and absolutely normal professors.I must conclude that I am quite smitten with myself. The stage is set with a level of perfection that would have astonished me in my youth. They are coming. Derek will follow her. He knows the weight of reality too intimately, but she will be his true north if only for a short time. A beacon in the storm to show him the stunning pastels and brightness the sun may yet refract through his thinner, sharper pieces. Theoline will lead as she always has- well not always, not yet. She holds onto questions feverishly tight, that one. Lights them up inside like a new type of fuel without the slightest worry of being burned. She knows... There is but a certain few who can look at a map and find nothing where I stand but the Atlantic Ocean. And still, there is earth beneath me, a noisy pub down the road from me, and several people clucking conspiratorially on a balcony above me. She knows... that the Isle of Red doesn't belong here. Neither, technically, do I. (Hello!
