Chapter 30 Revisiting Memory Lane
Several hours have passed since Anna left Ember in charge of operating her shop. Where had she gone off to?
Main Character’s POV (Point Of View):
There I was revisiting memory lane, retracing the paved steps of my favourite park where papa used to bring me when I was a little girl. A captivating array of Elij-Plums was growing in a beautiful formation which made out a butterfly if viewed from above.
I spent most of my childhood alone playing in that swing over by the sandy playground. I remember crying my eyes out whenever the little kids mocked me about my appearance. Mommy used to dress me up like a pigeon whenever she sent me off with the babysitter. It was as if she intentionally dressed me that way for me to be picked on.
I did not remember ever having any fond memories of mommy, other than that one time when she brought me to a Small Island down south. I remember papa getting angry with her when we got back from that trip. I didn’t quite recall the content of their fuss. Mommy and papa used to quarrel a lot, they hardly ever see eye to eye on anything. Now that I’m reflecting on events of the past, I wonder why they married each other when they never seemed to be in love.
Relationships are complicated things. Couples find each other attractive at first and treat each other nicely but then after they have familiarized themselves with each other, they no longer share such deep affections. The mind grew bored of that bond eventually.
I sat on a park bench to rest my legs. My mother’s recent photo was keeping firmly between my fingers. I gave it another thoughtful glance and let my mind trail off. Mommy looked almost exactly the same as I remembered her all those years ago. Gorgeous, elegantly dressed, moreover, she still had that fierce look in her eyes that could petrify a person if stared at for long.

Whenever I disobeyed mommy’s order, she would glare at me with those deadly eyes then beat me silly until I became soft as a sponge. It wasn’t until papa got home later at night before I could get a break from her torment. Now looking back, she was more venomous than a scorpion and yet I used to yearn for her warm embrace every day that she came through the front door. Had my head been messed up since then?
“Mommy, why did you do that to papa and me? Did we mean so little to you? Did your own daughter’s safety not worth mentioning? How could you be such a cruel mother and wife?”
Wanting to know more about the reason my father was brutally murdered, I decided to confront my mother. “But where should I start? We haven’t been in contact for ages, she isn’t even aware that I survived that night.”
With no set destination in mind, I began to let my wandering feet lead the way. I walked around the streets of Arak Gold aimlessly until I was stopped by a group of menacing people. They didn’t have to introduce themselves. From the stench of their demeanour, I knew that this gang was a part of the underground syndicate known as Demon Triad.
“What a coincidence. Didn’t Crimson Scorpion say that mommy was affiliated with the Demon Triad?” I decided to let these goons take me to their headquarters. I showed them the photo of my mother and said;
“Excuse me, dissidents. Can all of you kindly take a look at this photo? I’m trying to find this woman.” From the expression I perceived on the gang members faces when I showed them the photo, I could tell that they were surprised.
“This little lady doesn’t seem all that faze by our presence at all.”
“She must be blind or something not to recognize our brutality.”

“I doubt she’s blind. Why else would she be carrying around some stupid photo?”
“Hey, guys didn’t the Bone Elder said that he was low on traffic? What do you say we bring him this fresh flesh? Who knows, he might promote us to higher-ranking demons.”
“That sound really good, her body isn’t that bad either. Why don’t we sample her pussy before handing her over to the Bone Elder?”
“I was thinking the same thing. Let’s do it.”
“Grab her!” These horny dissidents rushed at me with their dicks hard and yearning saliva drooling from their mouths. I didn’t resist their intentional groping. They grabbed me so hard, it caused the photo to fell out of my grasp.
“Hey, check it out, she dropped something.” One of the dissidents picked up the photo of my mother and looked it over with bleeding eyes. “Huh? This person is…?” the man seemed to have recognized my mother. “Guys stop what you are doing this instant!”
“Huh? What is it, man? This better be good. I was just about to take off her panties.”
[Thud! Thud! Thud!] The man who had the photo in his grasp came closer and showed it to me. “Hey, pretty lady, who did you say this lady was to you?”
“She’s my biological mother, mister.”
“What!” [Ba-dump! Ba-dump! Ba-dump!] I could hear the man’s heart pulsating through his chest. He looked so frightened, his apparent trepidation scared the other dissidents of the gang.
“Yow, what is it, man? You look as if you are going to shit yourself. Who’s on the photo? Let me see which skank is this bitch’s mother?”
“Here.”
When the photo was passed to the same youth who had pulled my panties down to my ankles, I saw his face paled immediately, moreover, he hurriedly slid back up my panties around my waist. It seemed the image of my mother had these gangsters scared shitless.
“Yow! Are you for real? What kind of sick joke is this? This person can’t be her mother right?”
“Let me check.” Another person took the photo, came closer, took the dorky glasses from my face, pulled me underneath good lighting then compared my mother’s photo with my face. “Oh shit! They look almost exactly the same! She might not be lying when she said the Demon’s Horn is her mother.”
“You’re joking, right? Couldn’t they just look alike? I’ve never heard of the Demon’s Horn having any daughter!”
“I know of someone who can validate her identity. Why don’t we take her to the Bone Elder? He must be over a thousand years old. If anyone would know if the Demon’s Horn has a daughter or not it has to be him.”
“Yeah, I agree with you. Hey, miss… ahm. What’s your name?”
“Anna.”
“Anna come with us. We’ll take you to where you want to go.”
These dissidents began acting courteously towards me all of a sudden. I reckoned they were quite scared after finding out that they had molested the daughter of the Demon’s Horn who they spoke about.
“Wait here miss. A car will come over shortly to escort you to the elder.”
“Alright.” After half an hour or so, a car came on the spot and picked me up. The driver brought me to a slaughter-house near the outskirts of Arak Gold where humans were being chopped up instead of animals. Now I understood why they built it all the way out here. The scent of blood and guts was too pungent for any nostrils to sniff over.

Galactic Economics
Humanity enters the galaxy and makes First Contact, only to begin to realize that not everything is at it seems. It appears that the galactic alien community has forgotten to invent some rather important economic concepts that human civilization has taken for granted. This is a look at a hypothetical galactic scale barter economy, how that would work, or how as one of our main characters Sarah realizes... it doesn't. And as the galaxy falls apart at the seams, it's up to the best and brightest in humanity to put things back together. Story contains a lot about markets, logistics, development, and the best and worst of human history. Not so much Space Marines nuking aliens. If you enjoyed the trade negotiations and Senate politics in the Star Wars prequels, and wished that there was an entire standalone story consisting solely of those parts, this might be for you! Galactic Economics is also posted on reddit here.

How to Raise Your Dungeon
A dungeon core awakens for the first time. It knows nothing, it has nothing, but it can hear something. Voices, whispering, talking, and sharing. For now, they are distant. But it believes, if it proves itself, they may provide it with wisdom and direction. And so its slow but steady growth begins. Polls will come when the dungeon specifically wants to choose between a number of options, and believes it will receive an answer. However, it will "hear" any comments made on the most recent chapter, and these will shape its behaviour. It trusts you implicitely. This story is an exercise in stretching my creative muscles, so with each decision made, the options and opportunities open to the dungeon will change- some closing off forever. The dungeon will face threats periodically, and its fate in these encounters will be heavily influenced by your advice, though it will of course do its absolute best even without advice. It hardly wants to die. Heavily inspired by There Is No Epic Loot Here, Only Puns, though my approach to the concept is somewhat different from that work.

Personal Agency

Her background? You better believe it's classified. She works for the people who hide the truth. She is going to wake up with a hole in her head in the first chapter of this story, surrounded by corpses and also by a dying fairly normal 26 year old American man. Burned and seemingly abandoned by the Agency, Agent Z has lost her memory, her security clearance and her authorisation. All that she's gained is Jacob, who is thoroughly in this shit now.
