《HEAVEN'S DAWN》Chapter XV: A Fight of My Own

"Erase....my consciousness?" I'm left in shambles. That girl I've been seeing was a curse this whole time? And It's trying to take over my life? This little......

The shock of hearing this brings out a massive amount of irritation from within me as I'm looking down at my hands trembling from anger, placed on my legs while sitting on my knees. I think....I think I can feel the veins on the edge of my hairline showing.

"No matter how hard you search for it or how many doctors you call, there is no type of medicine that would rid you of this curse on this world. However, there is another way." The hands that once shook are now motionless but gripped to the soft cloth of my shorts when Mister Abe gives me hope. Yet the plain obvious emotion remains stuck to my eyes as I stare into his.

"It is the only method I know and nobody can assist you with it. This will all depend on you and you alone." He stares back at me with the determination to help me.

"Yuuna....you will have to enter your own mind and deal with the curse yourself."

Enter my own mind? Is he nuts? How am I supposed to-. No, I've already done it a few times. Those dreams of it I've been having, that big space with only darkness surrounding me. But those dreams happen at random, who knows how many nights I might have to wait.

"I have a method that will help you get inside, a spell that allows one to tap into their consciousness. But remember, the mind of a person is a powerful thing, anything there is at your disposal and at the same time, anything could be used against you."

"I'm ready...." I know what I need to know. Continuing this any further would be a waste of time. My impatience is growing with each passing second. Mister Abe can sense that and gets himself up just before making his way behind my back, then places his palm on it, just like whenever he checked up on my condition.

"Do your best and never give up, Yuuna." I close my eyes, take in a deep breath and with that I'm sent off, into my own mind, as a single heart throb of mine resonates through my body. Suddenly I feel like I'm sinking slowly but surely, in nothing but air.

Somehow, I can literally feel every inch of my myself. My heart beating, the blood flowing through my veins and even the air making its way through my pipes.

When I open my eyes, the first thing I see is the darkness around me which's view is partially covered by my untied hair floating before my face but after a few seconds, I land on a hard surface, slowly and gently.

Truly a familiar sight to look upon. To think this is what my consciousness is like. Is it because I'm currently asleep? Or maybe it's the curse's fault.

"Oh? What's this? An unexpected visitor? What brings you here?"

As I'm standing in the empty, pitch-black area, the voice I've been awaiting finally resounds through the space. But this time, instead of the curse coming straight to me, within an instant, the black rapidly turns to pure white, leaving just the ground with its original colour.

Thanks to the change of scenery, a silhouette becomes visible as the paper white background enforces it. The shape of it makes it hard to see anything other than a throne with thick arm rests and of course, the curse is laying on it with its legs over one side and her head leaning on an arm that's resting on the other. To that throne, a few steps are leading, connecting to the ascended ground.

Just look at it. That smug smile on its void-like face, spoiling itself, playing the ruler of my mind.

"What brings me here? It isn't that hard to figure out....I would imagine something that's taking over one's existence would be a tad smarter."

The shadow of myself giggles as it leaves its fancy chair and steps down the low stairs.

"Wait.....you don't believe you can actually stop me, do you? On my own turf?!" Oh, that's right. That little pest can read my thoughts.

As the realization strikes me, I can already see a few tentacle-like objects surfacing around the curse and jolting directly at me. I cover my face using my arms and jump back. This simple stunt helps me evade most of them but the few that hit me leaves a cut on one of my cheeks and thigh.

So how does this work? I just need to imagine something? So what if I imagine healing myself? The next thing I know, I'm just like new. This is way too easy.

A grin appears on the covered face just before revealing it. "Hey now, I just wanted to have a chat first. But I get it, I know what it's like to be so impatient. If you can't wait to be removed from this world then I guess it just can't be helped, can it?!?"

It's been a while since I've felt this furious. I will make damn sure to take all of it out on you!

And with that the battle begins. I make the first move by slightly swinging my hand upwards, calling out massive pillars of whatever the ground is made of with the intention of hitting the impostor, but it manages to catch on and uses the multiple pillars to bounce off towards me.

Within this infinity space, anything is possible, and with those infinite possibilities at my disposal, I'm going to inflict as much pain on this nuisance as I can. With a big grin on my face, I put my palms against each other, leaving a small gap between then. In that gap, an electric current begins to flow, a lot like the one I could produce myself.

With the curse leaping towards me, I have little to no time, I need to be fast with my decisions. An object with the shape of seven tails grow out of its back and strike at me but at this point, the shadow is nearly at the ground, a perfect spot to punch straight through its guts!

The curse reacts to the blow with a gasp but quickly recovers and grabs my arm, then wraps around it and smacks me into the flooring. The freak glares down at me wearing a smug smile. Can't I just erase it with a single thought?

I try but nothing happens

"Hahaha, as if things were so easy! All your thoughts can affect are inanimate objects with the exception of yourself, but that doesn't mean you can go and give yourself some kind of a power that could finish me within an instant. You see, I've been taking over this mind for some time now, so I've made sure nothing as such is possible." I'm getting up after the crash, my smile is still present and blood flows down my tanned face due to hitting my head. I don't plan on removing either.

"I guess I'll just have to beat you the hard way." The entity looks at me with curiosity. A katana is the only weapon I'll be using apart from my imagination, I'm not trained to wield anything else, but that's fine."

"Let's see you try~" With a few meters space between the both of us, the curse jolts towards me and I answer in kind, it uses nothing but its fists to duel me. Clash after clash, as the wind slashed by my blade creates a whistling tune and the point of impact emits a metallic sound, we strike both our weapons over and over again.

After a few more clashes I step back for a moment and slide two of my fingers down the metal made blade, all the way to the tip. A bright orange flame emerges on every millimeter of the blade, following the lead of my fingers.

The curse isn't at its full power yet. It can't defeat me by simply imagining so, the take-over process is clearly far from complete. This will be a piece of cake.

I swing myself towards the entity with all my might and throw a slash which gets knocked back by its knuckles but I don't stop there. I begin to spin and spin towards it, hitting it every time my body fully rotates as I push on it, forcing it to switch to a defensive stance. The tangerine colour of the flames creates a vortex around me.

"What a joke. You have your whole imagination at your disposal, and you choose to do this?" It pushed me back again, this time even further, then begins to spin its arm in a circle, creating a big golden energy orb before it. After growing larger than the two of us combined, the ball disrupts and blasts out multiple smaller blasts, scattering them all over the place.

I either dodge or slash them with my blade as they come at me from every possible angle, and I end up turning my back to the shadow. But when I turn back to face it, it's already above me, about to land another blow. This time its arm is engulfed in a poisonous looking purple current of electricity. Unfortunately for it, I make the attack miss just by slightly moving my head and striking the entity in the face with a fist of my own.

The curse is sent flying back a couple meters as a wall in its path grows out of the ground and stops it. Then two more emerge and crush my enemy.

"Oh don't worry. I'm just getting warmed up." I reply to the shadow's previous comment. It's not enough to finish it, not even damage it, but it's fine, I'm just killing time anyway.

It doesn't take long at all for the curse to blast through the wall, zooming straight into my face, resuming the fight. It misses its attack, still using its fists but this time it has spikes all over it? The miss gives me enough time to throw a vertical slash after a horizontal one, but it also gets dodged.

"What's the point of trying? It's not like you can win, this space will soon be taken over by me completely, then I'll take away the rest of the people that are still around you and you can't do anything about it." The shadow continues yapping as it releases a slash of dark violet flames from her hands with all fingers extended, as if using it as a blade.

It struck a nerve. But no more anger comes. Instead, the joy and excitement within me strengthens and I begin to laugh hysterically, almost maniacally. "Shut your trap. You are just a damn parasite and all you have is yourself and this blank empty space! Nobody loves you and never will! Even if you take me over, unlike you I have people around nearby and you best believe they will take you down with ease! You heavily underestimate my friends, but I can't blame you. After all, you are just a pathetic creature living its fake life in isolation by leaching off others, hahaha!

I guess I couldn't hold myself back from provoking it.

The flames of the entity flail in the air. As I communicate to it, a slash to my ankles misses by the shadow by jumping. Another one dodged when I move to one of the sides and a third one evaded once more as I move beneath its arm and get behind the curse when it tries to cut my head off.

"You little...." Its flames decline and instead a bunch of spiky rocks emerge from the ground beneath me, so I jump back and while I'm in the air, I get a genius idea. I pull out a new weapon, the "Anti-klank rifle"! ....or something. I can't remember what it was called, it's one of my sister, Lena's weapons. I always wanted to use it, but she wouldn't let my cus apparently it was too big and strong for me to handle at the time. Actually, how do I use this?

I'm leaping in the air, looking for some kind of a switch button when I spot the trigger and realize it can be pressed. "Oh, I see!". I take aim and launch the attack with my brand-new weapon. The bullet misses and creates a small crater in the ground while I'm launched by the impact even further than I was originally meant to fly. I end up flattening myself on the ground.

"Man...she wasn't joking when she said it's strong. Just how strong are Lena's muscles?" I'm picking myself up from the ground when the Mister's voice starts talking in my head. "The transfer is complete, Yuuna. I will be awaiting your signal."

Aw, already? Oh well, I guess I had my fun.

"Hey! You ugly pathetic piece of a life form. I'll be ending it now so say your prayers!" I yell out into the distance and wave at the curse. It glares at me with confusion on its face but after just a few seconds its expression quickly changes to one showing surprise as it diverts its view to up to the sky or ceiling. Whatever is up there.

"What's going on? Her consciousness is falling apart?! But how? It should be impossible for her to-. No way, is she erasing her own consciousness?!"

The evilest grin I ever pulled off appears on my face as all goes according to our plan.

I have enough time for our plan. I'm very lucky Mister Abe has the power to control a living beings mind and even store it.

***

"Yuuna, once you get in, I will begin the process of transferring your consciousness with the curse being within it." Mister Abe says as he holds a crystal orb with his two hands. Transfer it? Into that thing?

"I'm not sure how I feel about that....is it safe to put me into a....rock?" Mister Abe giggles to himself. "I'm a master for a reason, Yuuna. You don't need to fear anything bad happening. I will replace your thoughts with fake ones too in order to fool the curse. I will let you know once everything is prepared, then simply give me a signal."

Well, I guess it should be fine....if he says so.

***

"No! This can't be! Not like this!" Cracks begin to appear on the white background, soon bursting and descending to the ground as broken panes of glass, and the blank gets replaced by pitch black once again. The last moments of the curse are quite unfortunate I'd say.

But hey, at least it was fun.
