《Nandemonogatari: The Story of Something Else》Chapter 06 - The Story of Deception

After the agreed upon two hours had passed, the club members begin to meet up outside the Tabletop club's dorm. Most of the lights at the school are dimmed making for a creepy ambiance.
Katsuki, Yuuri, and Kirika show up first wearing sweaters and long jeans, while Saito strolls in dressed normally. He’s shivering and huddled up. “You look cold!” Yuuri says, noticing him, then laughs. “Ohoho, you should’ve dressed appropriately, Naoyuki!”
Saito looks at the warmly dressed girls, then tries to take a cool pose. “I l-like to l-l-look good in all s-s-situations!” He quickly huddles up again as the cold hits him once more.
Yuuri strikes a truly sexy pose, then her eyes flash. Cat ears sprout from her head, and she says, “Do mew think I don’t look purrfect, Saito?”
He stares back blankly. “...You’re t-talking weird a-again.”
Yuuri's eyes flash as she breaks her pose and covers her embarrassed face. "S-Sorry, I don't know what came over me." She quickly turns to the others. “Are the rest of you ready?”
Katsuki looks at the school. “Gosh, this place is spooky.” She then smiles. “They’ll fall for our scheme in an instant!” She then gives Yuuri a determined look and says, “I'm as ready as I can possibly be. Yuuri, would you mind knocking on this door?”
Yuuri sighs, still blushing. “Alright, now that we’re ready, let’s do this.” She walks up to the Tabletop Club’s door and knocks on it.
An aggressive yet nasally nerd voice comes from the other side of the door. “Who is it? We’re a little busy, so if it’s not important, go away.”
Yuuri clears her throat, then says, “Hello there! It’s us, the Paranormal Club.”
A short chubby girl opens the door, “What on The World In-Between do YOU guys want?”

Yuuri waves and smiles widely, “Hi! We were wondering if you could assist us with a little outing we’re doing?”
Kirika covers her mouth with her hands, adding with her cutest voice, “W-we’re scared~! Will you p-please help us?”
The club president walks to the door and opens it. She is a taller, thinner girl, wearing a pop culture shirt. Behind her sit the other five members of the Tabletop Club. She glances at Yuuri and then waves her hand in Yuuri’s face. "My Eyes of Revealing show no ill intent. I’m Toshi, what can we help you with?"
Yuuri suppresses the urge to giggle. “I’m glad I pass your ‘inspection’! You see, some of us in the Paranormal club had heard rumors of a haunted location near campus and wanted to scope the place out."
Saito chimes in. “We’re kinda l-lacking in numbers t-though.”
Katsuki continues aggressively, “We figured since you guys have the most experience with dungeon crawling and such you'd be the perfect allies.”
Yuuri adds, “As they said, we didn't want to do this alone, so we were wondering if the Tabletop club could help us out a bit. You guys know stuff about demons and ghosts right? From your fantasy games?”
Kirika is visibly shaking, petting and holding her bat, who is freaking out. They try to comfort each other but it’s not working for either.
Saito says, “C-could be a bother if s-something happens there. Shit, for all w-we know, the campus might b-be in danger.”
One of the Tabletop Club members shouts out, “It’s not all Spirits and Gremlins with us. There’s also Moonsprint and Blood’s Gate!”
Yuuri nods politely. “I’m sure it isn’t! Can you help us, though?”
Another short chubby girl gets up and walks towards the door. “You know Tonbo, this could give us some sick loot and some hella experience!”

Yuuri barely stifles a laugh. “Mhm, mhm, ‘hella’ indeed!”
Kirika gets an idea, and brushes her hair behind her ears to reveal their elvish nature. She stares at the Tabletop club members with tears in her eyes. “P-please, won’t you help us?”
The nerds immediately jump from their seats and stampede towards her, the ground shaking. It only stops when they all reach the door at the same time, getting stuck. They cry out in unison, “We will do whatever you ask of us, oh elven one!"
Saito mumbles under his breath, “Holy shit…”
Yuuri’s eyes glow again. “Ah, the experts have arrived! Purrfect. Nyaha~! Come along nyaow everynyan~! We have a location to… ” Saito nudges Yuuri with his elbow, causing Yuuri to return to normal. “E-eh? Wh-What?”
Saito sighs. “N-nothing. Alright g-guys, let’s move.”
Kirika brings it back to the point. “We need some strong men to guide us from danger!” Saito sneezes loudly in response.
One of the larger Tabletop club members booms out, “You heard them, we must protect these fair maidens from the scandalous rogue spirits!” Yuuri walks on ahead leading everyone else to where the others are hiding, the Tabletop club closely following Kirika and obsessing over her ears.
As they approach where the others are hiding, Yuuri motions to Saito to give the signal. Saito moves to comply, but sneezes instead. Yuuri shakes her head. “You really should have dressed better for this, Naoyuki.” She blinks, then continues. “Also, why did you bring that thing instead of a coat? What even is it?”
“I never go anywhere without it. Never know when you’ll need your tools.” Saito replies.
Yuuri gives Saito a questioning look. “But what kind of tool is it even?”
Saito shakes his head. “Don’t worry about it, just be glad I have it.”
Yuuri begins to say something, but is cut off as one of the ambushing members makes a ghostly noise to confirm the signal. Kirika pretends to be startled by it, jumping to Yuuri’s side. The Tabletop members suddenly get on guard, distracted from the signal by their desire to protect the elf girl.
She turns and pats Kirika’s head. Kirika whispers to Yuuri “I-I think they’re staring at me too much...,” to which Yuuri replies in a whisper “It’s okay, we’re almost there.”

The Solstice Wars
In the grey-cloaked cityscape of modern London, student William Whiteswift has two secrets: the Fae walk among humanity, and they are just as vulnerable as us. His childhood was filled with them; they spawned nightmares and episodes, dreams and obsessions. The nightmares remain, of course, but the fae are his normal. Now, he heals them, for William is gifted. When he saves a faerie -- a humanoid fae -- from an injury he can’t explain, William is forced to let her stay. Finally, he may have taken on more than he can handle; Ainsel could uproot his life in seconds. Instead, she cracks a Pandora’s box of mysteries: someone just flipped her home on its head. And because of that, she did something unspeakable. And somehow, she doesn’t want to hurt him. The longer she stays, though, the crueler his nightmares grow. Worse, governments hide secrets, too: they know of faeries. To them, all fae are monsters fueled by solstices and equinoxes. As the autumn equinox approaches, the culling agency COURT hurries to track Ainsel down. With teams across the United Kingdom and Ireland -- iron-strong despite the region’s history -- they are nearing success. A world away, their country wounded, the faerie leaders hunger for justice. In the looming shadows of war and of Ainsel’s mistake, can a human and a faerie protect each other against their own kind? Could their plight mend rifts between bitter nations and bitterer people? Or will it, like past attempts at peace, shatter? Quick note! I hope you all enjoy the Irish (Irish Gaelic) words here and there! All are defined or explained within the text. This is my chance to show off speaking it at least somewhat decently. Still learning. ;D -K
