After this, they don’t wait for long and the truck starts.

Since it was night and couldn’t see anything, Tom got bored and fell asleep.

He got waken up by Jo and start to look around.

It was the middle of the night.

They get out of the truck and see soldiers getting ammunition and boxes out of trucks and are asked to help.

As they were almost 3 years old, they weren’t able to do much, so all they managed to do is give some ammunition to a few soldiers that were waiting to get some.

After this they were shown the place where they would sleep.

It was in a tent that was shared between soldiers.

At first Jo made quite the scene because he didn’t want to sleep there because he imagined to have something more fancy, but fortunately Tom manages to make him understand that they weren’t in a position to say anything.

The next day they are put to keep company to soldiers that were off duty.

This was a nightmare of a job for Tom, since he was barely active, if not active at in any social group that he rarely found himself to be part of one in both his previous world and the world he is now. The single person that he really talked to was his grandma.

After a day of talking to soldiers, Tom realizes that their job there was actually to keep the moral up, as almost everyone that he talked to has brought up their children into conversation more than one time.

Tom guessed from that, that they were reminding them of their children that were probably waiting at home.

A few weeks later they move again into some woods somewhere.

By that point it became clear that Tom wasn’t that talkative to everyone so he is in put to give letters to soldiers, rations and ammunition or just to announce stuff.

Both Jo and Tom became well liked.

By the looks of it, everyone was preparing for battle, but Tom hasn’t seen or heard anyone shoot a weapon or engage in any kind of combat as he figured that something like that must have happened in the two weeks they spent there.

Another few days pass and Tom is sitting around after a day spent trying to find the receivers of letters and giving the soap rations.

He is finally done sitting gets up.

On his way to bed he sees everyone around him starting to pack things up.

They were moving the camp again.
