《TARGUM: The Architects Of Pride》Chapter 30. Meeting Of The Board

The first meeting of The Board of Targum on the Planet of Torah in Evans Memorial Home for Eternals was, Waldorf thought a bit overdue as the universe had been in existence for a thousand years almost. He said as much to Godfrey on entering the glass enthused conference room.
Godfrey replied, "Well you've got to start somewhere."
He would have preferred soft leather and wood panelling. He got glass and metal. This did not look comfortable. It would be in everyone's interest to make this quick. Ah, maybe that was the Wardens plan.
Waldorf wished he had put a tie on. The warden and the governor both sat at the head of the table dressed in smart business-like suits with matching ties. Popular attire on a few of the more developed worlds of Targum. Waldorf had worn one before, in a previous existence, he remembered foggily. Easier for them when they could both morph into any form and appear in any clothing they wished with just a thought. Greaves was close by with a small pile of redundant paper in front of him. Waldorf was sure this was just for show as each seat had its own personal holo-reader.
Godfrey took the seat next to him. As the two newest recruits to the board, he and his friend both felt the nerves.
All attendees sat. It was clear that Greaves would do the formalities as he had been the brothers' right-hand man since the first planet was made. He stood efficiently and addressed the board.
"Welcome to the inaugural meeting of the board of Targum. We would like to welcome Donald McGinty, Head of World Fauna. Karen Davies, Head of World Flora. Waldorf Lewis, Head of World Faith. Asher Barklay, Head of Universal Transition. Godfrey Burton Head of World Magic. Leaving, of course, myself, William Greaves Head of I.T and World Geography, The warden and the governor. Both Executive Chairmen."

The Warden stood. He smiled a friendly smile and looked at each of the gathered Eternals in turn. "Well, this is all very exciting and not a little bit strange. We have decided that with the progression of the Universe of Targum, we now require to be a bit more organised than we have in the last nine hundred and seventy-five years since my brother and I first traipsed across space from the Milky Way. With our foundation of souls in our transfer beams, we have now reached a point we previously envisaged where those souls are creating new souls at an ever-expanding rate. The population of the now, thirteen planets call for more planets to be built to house the expanding populace. AG113, our latest creation is coming on well with geography and flora complete. The fauna is being introduced gradually to encourage a healthy food chain. So thank you all for your invaluable inputs here. The thirteen planets are all running smoothly with the exception of AG105. Here we have had a few surprises."
He looked at his brother at this point and The Governor rose to speak. "Good afternoon all." He deferred to the board." As you may or may not know most of my work is done with the souls that we have found to be...erm troubled or misled in their existences. I hate to use the word evil as it is my job to nurture them and to encourage them to become positive universal forces. On transition at Bardon, Asher identifies those that need encouragement and recommends that they spend some time in level zero. At this moment in time, around seventy per cent are returned to the planets, however, that leaves thirty per cent that are proving difficult to rehabilitate as it were. It is my failure with these that has bought us some of the trouble on AG105. I am afraid that three in my care escaped. They were not noticed for years as they were presumed dead. They managed to make it all the way from level zero to AG105 in a drill pod. They did know how to utilise the magic of the lizard crystal and must have enhanced their powers of luck and invisibility. They are dangerous men. They have psychopathic tendencies and know how to use the new lizard magic. This is even more worrying now that we know that dragons who migrate throughout the solar systems have randomly made AG105 their home. Their crystals are very powerful. They can if they find, large enough deposits of this, endanger life in Targum. The warden and I have had many discussions on this problem and we are stuck in a dilemma. It would at first glance seem easy enough to just eradicate the three. This goes against our reason for being here. It is still my wish to nurture them and encourage them to become valuable beings. It also seems to us that without the bad there will be no good and although we wanted to create planets as peaceable as possible we should be encouraging people to step up and be a force for good against these misled wretches. With your support, we think we can allow the people of Agios to neutralise their influence. We did not want to intervene on the planet but we must stick to our ideals. There will be no religion or power-lust on our planets. We have enrolled Waldorf and Godfrey onto the board to be the ambassadors if you will, of faith and magic. They will be able to intervene on Agios to ensure these three are not worshipped or use their power to subjugate the people of this planet. Using people of Agios but giving them the tools to fight for these ideals. I hope we can all support Godfrey and Waldorf in this task?"

The board looked at Godfrey and Waldorf smiling and nodding, apart from Miss Davies who slightly raised her upper lip in distaste. That aside it was taken that the board were in favour of the prescribed role in the intervention on AG105.
"That settles it then." Greaves proclaimed. "It has been given to me to ask you all if you wish to remember what happens when on Targum business. As it is noted that your main reason for being here is to retire. Yet you have all agreed to semi-retire, as it were in these matters of world-creating and maintenance. It would be possible to cloak your memories of Targum business for the times when you are not on duty? I have suggested to the warden that we have a trigger word which can be used to uncloak your thoughts on returning to duty. I can be that person who triggers them?"
Waldorf had not thought of this. It sounded a reasonable idea. It would mean that his downtime would be more relaxing and carefree. "This sounds like an excellent idea. Could I make one suggestion?"
"Feel free," Greaves replied.
"Well it is just a thought but unless we are needed in an emergency, which I presume will never happen. Could we set our trigger times on day one for day two? So when we leave the office we put in the hours we wish to work for the next day. This seems to be the best solution here."
There was a consenting murmur of approval. Greaves agreed that this seemed the most efficient way forward and drew the meeting to a close.
