《Cross Roads: Wolves of Oleander (Book Three)》Chapter 23

Senna and Miles were more than delighted to relay what they have discovered just recently. They even shared the same documents in audio files that were given to Miles a few days ago.
Also though Delta Crucis was the youngest of the group and didn’t know much about the harrowing experience over in London, she did the next best thing and did many independent studies like many other members of the Crux Nexus.
The two Interpol agents took refuge in one of the war rooms, with Delta Crucis communicating over Skype video chat. The pale-skinned, bluish green-eyed Crucis Sentinel with charcoal black hair appeared on the screen. Delta Crucis was always good with riddles and took little time to figure out who the mirror was after reading over many personnel files of the Oleander Syndicate.
“That sounds about right, Inspector. A little campy, but at least they got her point across…” Delta Crucis said as she typed on her keyboard and pulled up many files on the screen, sorting out his timeline.
“Okay, now about Alastair Copeland… He was born in the United States. Manhattan, New York. On November 22, 1978. Graduated high school as a valedictorian, got a perfect score in the SATs in 1994. I could have gone into any school for free. I went to Harvard the next year. There he earned a Ph.D. in engineering at age 21 and left the country shortly after when Oleander recruited him. He served as a junior instructor who worked under Olivia Quinten at the old Syndicate. He was Olivia’s rising star, despite the gender difference.”
“So, what stopped his rise?” Miles asked.
“Angel of Death,” Delta Crucis answered with a smirk. “I know what a shocker! There was some jealousy between her and Olivia, but it was greatly ignored by Dolph and the others. Me personally, I don’t know what truly happened. Perhaps there were a lot of things that were slipped under the rug and some that were literally burned away over the years. So just like everybody else, I have to follow the rumor mill. And of course, rumor has it that he was in a relationship with another student.”
“So, he couldn’t keep it in his pants? Figures…” Miles shook her head in shame.
“Those are just rumors… However, he did quit after an altercation with one of the Nether Elite five years ago,” Delta Crucis informed while pulling up his letter of resignation and termination papers on the screen.
Both Miles and Senna read the documents on the screen.
Afterward, Miles shrugged her shoulders and took a wild guess, “Silvestri made Copeland quit…”
Delta Crucis nodded as she looked into the camera, “It happened in London during the Holy Firebombing. He was caught smacking around Silvestri in public, and it was publicly circulated in the media.”
“According to Natty’s piss poor track record of following orders, who can really blame him…” Miles realigned. “He did what every man with a pair of balls wanted to do with Natty! If only she weren’t spoiled and coddled like a puppy shitting everywhere, she would have been a better operative. But I understand, it was wrong of him to do so. No matter how poorly trained she was…” Miles reflected.

Delta Crucis looked on her own computer screen and pulled up police reports and medical records as she informs the group, “Well, it looks like Silvestri or Eichner got Copeland back in spades. A few days later, they found Alastair Copeland have been beaten over the head with a blunt force object on a rooftop somewhere in London. He slipped into a coma, was supposed to die from his injuries, or even suffered permanent brain damage, but he miraculously made a full recovery with no ill effects of trauma and was discharged a few days later.”
“It was Silvestri, Sentinel! They just couldn’t prove it or was afraid to back then… Being a ‘proud mother,’ Eichner was protecting her cubs,” The enraged Miles, pacing back and forth.
Delta Crucis continued, “get this. I might say Silvestri may have tried beating Copeland to death. Because she was found in a comatose state alongside Alastair on that rooftop, they found him on. According to medical records, she was admitted to the Sacred Heart Hospital in London for the second time on the 18th of November in that year. Having cervical bruising, she might have been assaulted…” Delta Crucis pulls up more medical records, yet some of them were scarce than others.
Senna, who was ever so studious pointed out what was wrong in this discovery, “I don’t see a police report… Did they ever find out who did it? Whether any charges to begin with?”
Delta Crucis was still staring at her screen, but she informed the group in disbelief, “Silvestri dismissed the charges herself when she woke up and felt better… No arrests were made... Alastair and his team left shortly afterward, after he was medically cleared to leave…”
Miles stopped pacing back and forth as she stared out the window, “I bet… Having your brother being labeled as a rapist, not once but twice?” Miles walked back to the screen and addressed the Crucis Sentinel. “I want you to find anything on Alastair Copeland. Where he lives now, phone records, bank accounts, online subscriptions… One doesn’t disappear without a trace…”
“Yet, the wolves should be here doing all of this shit, since they all wanted to kill him now…” Reese contradicted.
“That is the point, Reese. I won’t let them. He is a very talented individual, but he is not on par when it comes to their strength. He was almost beaten to death by one of them…” Miles defended. “Even though he may have acted out his revenge the best way he could, we all do heinous things when we are relentlessly provoked…”
“Hey, Reese! Got something already!” Delta Crucis beckoned. “Y-yeah… I found something rather disturbing and sad…”
“Bring it…” Miles insisted.
“I started digging into birth records at first and found his and Alastair’s sister. On his certificate, he doesn’t have a father, but his mother’s name was Eva Copeland. His birth name was Bĕhēmōṯ Firas. His sister’s birth name was Livyatan Firas,” Delta Crucis informed, pulling up the documents on-screen.

“Why the name change?” Miles wondered.
“Well, according to child services, he was beaten as a child by his own step-father until the age of ten, his mother died seven years before due to poor health issues. I will spare you the ghastly photos. Used electrical cords, starve him, pull his hair out… He was later taken away from his stepfather and was adopted a year later. His biological grandparents on his mother’s side, Sami and Johan Copeland,” Delta Crucis said, pulling more reports.
“What about his sister?” Senna indicated.
“She fought back against the step-father one day with a knife and got arrested at age 11. Served seven years in a detention center. Once she was 18, she started living on the streets. She later then got herself together by taking some classes and started freelancing as a video journalist. She even started traveling around the world and fell off the grid…” Delta Crucis informed, pulling up old police records.
“Must have heard about his brother being in trouble that day and took care of business…” Miles insinuated.
“Yeah, skipping ahead to the good stuff, she was not happy finding out her brother was accused of rape back in the day, so she did her own little investigation and got him exonerated,” Delta Crucis summarized.
Miles was surprised and relieved that at least someone stood up against Adrian, “Impressive.”
“So impressive, Quinten put her on as one of Alastair’s team members… With a letter of recommendation by the Grandmaster himself,” Delta Crucis gloated with a smirk on her face.
“I bet Dolph was too heartbroken over the fact Ally popped her cherry first…” Senna teased as she giggled. “Who made such a claim of rape?”
“Take a wild guess?” Delta Crucis implicated.
“Delta, you are amazing…” Miles praised.
However, the young lady was a bit pre-occupied typing on her keyboard.
“Delta?” Miles wondered as she looked on.
“Shit…” Delta Crucis invectives under her breath.
“What’s wrong?” Miles urges.
“Just now, my security software picked up something in your mainframe.” Dela Crucis regrettably informed. “By the look of it, the spyware has been planted weeks ago.”
“But our anti-virus software is custom made!” Miles accused.
Delta Crucis shook her head in disagreement, “It doesn’t matter, ma’am. And no, it’s not what you think! The spyware application has been recording and relaying information to an independent party.”
In fear of everyone’s safety, Miles tried her best to analyze the situation, “H-how much did they record, your estimate?” She stammered.
Delta looked into the camera and a straight answer, “Everything… Even your emails from the Superintendent…”
Miles runs out of the room out of sheer panic.
“Where are you--? Ma’am!” Senna chases after her superior. Making her way to the parking lot, Senna catches up with her.
“If we don’t stop the wolves, people will die!” Miles ordered.
Senna tries to be the voice of reason, “Ma’am, they don’t deserve to be saved! They have betrayed us!”
Miles didn’t listen as she drives off the property in a hurry.
“THIS IS NO HILL FOR YOU TO DIE ON!” Senna yelled as she sees Miles speed down the highway to her destination.
A few minutes later, Miles’ smartphone ring, but she couldn’t pick it up since she was driving. So she answered it with her earpiece instead, “Renfield!”
“Miss Renfield, Delta Crucis is on the phone!” The frantic Senna informed.
Miles did run out of the room and out of the office without saying much of anything, so Senna’s sheer panic was justifiable.
“Patch her, though!” Miles ordered as she addressed the Crucis Sentinel, “Delta, this is Renfield! I am headed over to Askham Grange!”
“Good! I was about to suggest the same thing!” Delta Crucis confirmed. “And it also appears that the wolves know where and who Bĕhēmōṯ Firas is! Bĕhēmōṯ Firas is a powerful sovereign that deals with Nether: I.N.D., Imperatoris De Neque. There has been a fox kemonomimi making all sorts of legislative liaisons and connections as somewhat of his advisor around Europe. She goes by the name of Noel Moon!”
“That explains the break-in at one of Redgrave’s production plants,” Miles insinuating. “And Bĕhēmōṯ’s not hiding, he is toying with them…”
“Jeanne Redgrave made a power play moving a few prisoners from Broadmoor Hospital to Askham Grange!” Delta Crucis informed.
“Who are the prisoners?”
Delta Crucis typed away on the laptop. Three seconds later, she found the names and read them off one by one, “Casey Greene… Terry Hodgeon… Louise Pinspotter… Maria Boutonnière--”
“Goddammit!” Miles exclaimed as she turned on the siren. “Do me a favor, kid! Call the governor of Askham Grange and tell her there is going to be a bloodbath!”
Hoping and praying for a miracle, Miles hopes to God that she wasn’t too late. It was a wild guess, but spending time with the wolf girls at Interpol, Miles was able to pick up on a few emotional traits.
One of them was revenge. The other emotions were fear and blind loyalty. Even though they may have never gotten along, they have agreed upon one thing that bonded them together: to hunt down and kill the people who were responsible for their downfall.
It was indeed a tall order for Miles and many others to convert them on the right path. The rank and file at Interpol knew they would sooner rather than later relapse to their old wicked ways. Miles didn’t really count on just how hard they will fall and how deep the hole was.

With the power of the Sorceress, the mages, and the priests the tide turned and the Demonic hordes began to be shoved back, signaling hopes of a golden age for mankind. One thousand years ago, the hopes of final victory and a new dawn for mankind were dashed by traitors who slew the participants of the ritual and took their places, using the ritual to bring forth a godlike being from the demons home world, "The Demon King," for no human knew his name, erased millenia of growth reducing humanity to barely a fragment of its former glory.
