《Cross Roads: Wolves of Oleander (Book Three)》Chapter 4

Gibraltar is a region of the United Kingdom and a British Overseas Territory located on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula. It has an area of 6.7 km2 and shares its northern border with Spain. The Rock of Gibraltar is the major landmark of the region. At its foot is a densely populated city area, home to over 30,000 Gibraltarians and other nationalities.

Gibraltar's territory covers 6.7 square kilometers and shares a 1.2-kilometer land border with Spain. The town of La Línea de la Concepción, a municipality of the province of Cádiz, lies on the Spanish side of the frontier.

The Spanish hinterland forms the comarca of Campo de Gibraltar. The shoreline measures 12 kilometers in length. There are two coasts of Gibraltar: The East Side, which contains the settlements of Sandy Bay and Catalan Bay; and the Westside, where the clear majority of the population lives. Gibraltar has no administrative divisions but is divided into seven Major Residential Areas.

Gibraltar's terrain consists of the 426-meter-high Rock of Gibraltar made of Jurassic limestone, and the narrow coastal lowland surrounding it. It contains many tunneled roads, most of which are still operated by the military and closed to the general public.

The Redgrave stronghold is a makeshift laboratory in the middle of Gibraltar. There, Redgrave does most of her high-tech experiments without interruptions. Being two stories tall, she has plenty of room building high-tech military machines.

The Nether Elite and Noel arrived at Gibraltar via aircraft. Noel called in a few favors from the governor of Gibraltar using their C-17 Globemaster.

The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is a large military transport aircraft. It was developed for the United States Air Force from the 1980s to the early 1990s by McDonnell Douglas. The C-17 carries forward the name of two previous piston-engined military cargo aircraft, the Douglas C-74 Globemaster and the Douglas C-124 Globemaster II. The C-17 commonly performs tactical and strategic airlift missions, transporting troops and cargo throughout the world; additional roles include medical evacuation and airdrop duties.

“So, let’s go over this again,” Kayla stated to her team. “12 kilometers west from the airship, Redgrave created a power plant/laboratory for her father’s weaponry. When building the lab, she wanted to make sure that no one can get in or out safely without her permission. But around the area, there is a soft landing spot for all of us. If or when we touched down there, we will be able to infiltrate the most vulnerable spot of the laboratory: the southeastern corner.”

“I’ve always known her to be a bit paranoid,” Noel added as she walked in on the elite’s conversation. “That is why it is important that we make a statement to Redgrave--”

“Yeah, yeah, okay, all you have to do is take out the BDX-7. That’s it,” Natalia interrupted as Noel nodded.

“Well said, my little bubble-butt!” She teased.

Natalia naturally took offense, “Noel, it wasn’t funny when you said that the first time and is not funny now!”

With a sly grin, Noel couldn’t help herself, “but it is. Natalia, Ayeka, and Ryoko will be the boots on the ground; Kayla will be the observer, watching over you, and I will be the tech support.”

Natalia scoffed at her plan, “I guess you don’t want to get your hands dirty?”

“Whatever gave you that idea?” Noel teased as she walked away.

As the Nether Elite were getting dressed in their wingsuits. Since there is no clear-cut entrance for the Redgrave Laboratory, wingsuit flying was a better option to sneak in undetected.

Wingsuit flying is the sport of gliding through the air using a wingsuit, which adds surface area to the human body to enable a significant increase in lift. The modern wingsuit, first developed in the late 1990s, creates a surface area with fabric between the legs and under the arms.

Wingsuits are sometimes referred to as "birdman suits" (after the makers of the first commercially available wingsuit), "flying squirrel suits" (due to their resemblance to the animal), and "bat suits" (due to their resemblance to the animal or perhaps the superhero).

A wingsuit flight typically ends by deploying a parachute, and so a wingsuit can be safely flown from any point that provides sufficient altitude for flight and parachute deployment—usually a skydiving drop aircraft or BASE-jump exit point.

The wingsuit flier wears parachute equipment specially designed for skydiving or BASE jumping. While the parachute flight is routine, the canopy pilot typically unzips arm wings (after deployment) to be able to reach the steering parachute toggles and control the descent path.

At daybreak, Noel and the Nether Elite are in position. They dove off the airship and began to fly with their wingsuits down to the Redgrave laboratory. As they started to touch down in the southeastern corner of the Redgrave laboratory, Noel is still in the airship of the control room. She was disabling the security systems of the laboratory and monitoring the vitals of the Nether Elite.

Noel smirked, “I can’t believe she still uses Windows 7. And she still calls herself the pinnacle of current technology.”

“Noel, we are 10 seconds away from the checkpoint,” Kayla updated through Noel’s headset.

“Roger that, Kayla. Your primary objectives are to identify and disable the DBX-7. Specialty restrictions: wound, but not kill.”

“Knowing how big it is, it’s not going to be that very hard to find it,” Natalia heckled through Noel’s headset.

“Stay focused, bubble-butt. You know how powerful it is. One of them almost broken you in half. Be on your guard.”

As the Nether Elite finally reached their destination, they immediately got out of their wingsuits and sprinted over to the back entrance of the southeastern corner. With Noel’s help, she disabled the door and security surveillance system of the southeast corner. Natalia kicked down the door, and the Nether Elite rushed in. Natalia didn’t waste any time running up the stairs and taking out one of the guards with a rear-naked choke. Following Natalia was Ayeka, Kayla, and Ryoko.

Ryoko took out one of the guards with a karate chop the throat, and Kayla hid behind a corner as another security guard was walking down the hallway. She walked up to him and hammer-fisted him right in his face, knocking him out before he hit the floor. Running through the corridor, the Nether Elite made it to the central wing of the laboratory.

“We’re waiting,” Kayla spoken into her headset as the door opened… Only a few inches.

“Do not fuck with us,” Natalia threatened as Noel was heard laughing over their headsets. Noel opened the door completely this time as they all got into position.

Kayla found the highest point of the room to avoid detection; Ayeka will play the role of sweeper, staying behind in being support while Ryoko and Natalia will take the point. Waiting in position, this went on for several minutes. Kayla looking down at her fellow Nether Elite in the scope of a sniper rifle, sees everybody is playing the role well. Meanwhile, Noel is from the comfort and her control room, hijacking the monitors and watching over the Nether Elite.
