《Rusty Dream》My Shadow
Advertisement
Another day crests the horizon and it is to the basics I return, the construction of the skull in the most simple abstract terms. Yes, to the basics never well learnt do I return...a prodigal penciller. Meanwhile life continues to seep away, each day, mundanity the elegy of the unfulfilled soul. Boohoo, but for once it is the drawing that provides relief.
"...the shadow could not draw on his power, so long as he was turned against it."
–Ursula K. Le Guin

My many failures in life have taught me a lesson in fear and pain, small as that fear and pain are in the grand scheme of things. Thanks to that lesson I can now confront them better, and in exchange I only learn less quickly and think less imaginatively and become a stranger in my own reality. Or perhaps those drawbacks are only the fading neuroplasticity of aging, and a sign that I did not grow up in time.
'I need to leave.' I've thought that for many years and recently the sentiment has been in reprisal once more. Just as one must turn to face the compounding issues, one must face life itself.

Snowfall fell and melted, so that now there is not a blanket on the ground but white dregs in the mug of the sunset earth.
I drew in the morning today and will do so tomorrow too.

The Anthology
This is my collection of short stories. I ask what stories would my audience like to read and write whatever they post in the comments. I strive for more than two dimensional characters and I like to make my stories somewhat unique. The first six entries are my experiment to just write without stopping and see what comes out. They can serve as an introduction for the reader to me as a thinker and writer. Although it should be known that the majority of those entries were written in a foggy state of mind. Entry seven is where my short stories begin.

Faeos Book One: The Stuff of Legends
A ragtag assemblage of adventurers, scraped together by seeming circumstance, investigate the theft of an ecologically essential artifact. In so doing, they find themselves embroiled (as adventurers so often do) in the larger machinations of a mischevious gnome, a determined mage or three, and a dire threat to their homes. Based on a homebrew Pathfinder campaign begun several years ago, and still running. Faeos is one part combat, one part character building, and one part entirely justified silliness. Blame any lead character weirdnesses on my players, whom I love. Blame everything else on me. Oh, and yes, this should also be tagged "Unreliable Narrator."
