《To defy the rulers》Chapter 3: The Supreme Magic Sword

‘It’s already been eight years since I arrived here. Today my warrior exams will take place, but I need to think about what to do next. Still, I can’t believe it - already eight years, how time flies….’ The sixteen year old Mito thought to himself. Mito followed Usplar, Yfedy and Ecivos, his three teachers. They guided him to the adventurer hall where they again will measure his magic capabilities. Afterwards they would go to the arena where his exam in physical and magical combat would take place. In the first four years Usplar and Yfedy followed him everywhere he went. But when a horde of monsters attacked the City he was able to gain the trust of the people, as he helped to defend the city. He saved many lives that day and helped a lot of people. Due to this he was able to freely roam the city without any suspicion towards him. Even though he made some friends, he still gets a hateful look from time to time.
As they arrived at the hall, they saw a lot of people standing in front of it, waiting for them. The four of them weren’t surprised; it was well known that Mito had an abnormal magic capability. The crowd split and let them pass to the test device. Mito didn’t wait and directly grabbed the small light ball. Again he felt the magic current flowing through his body, minutes passed and everyone wondered why it took so long, even Mito. After about fifteen minutes the current stopped and Mito stepped back. A bit later the device displayed the result. A loud yelp went through the hall as everyone present was shocked by the result. Mito´s mana capacity increased from eighteen thousand two hundred sixty five to forty thousand five hundred. That was enough to destroy a country. After the first shock people began to cheer on Mito and congratulate him. They were well aware that he was one of their own even if he wasn’t from the spirit wolf race. They knew that it was a blessing to have such a strong person on their side.
Mito left the hall with a big grin on his face. He thanked all the gratulants and made his way to the arena, with the other three close behind him. On their way there the other three teased him with words like “Mutant, Abomination, Monster and Freak”. They all became good friends, so Mito just laughed, turned to them and stuck out his tongue.
As they arrived at the arena, there was still time so Ecivos decided to test Mito´s magic knowledge: “What is magic?”
“The manipulation of energy or mana.”
“What is the mana heart?”
“A heart shaped container that is to the left of the actual heart, it stores all the mana a caster can hold.”
“What is the mana core?”
“The mana core is a small organ, located in the middle of the brain. It translates thoughts to commands for the magic energy to execute.”
“Give an example.”
“For example: If i want to have a red fireball in the palm of my hand, i would give a thought to the mana core that i want to gather my mana in the palm of my hand and let it burn.”
“How would you create an ice wall?”
“I would gather all the water in the air in front of me and freeze it.”
But that was just the understanding of the people from the wolven race. Mito´s understanding surpassed them by far. Magic was physics and chemistry on an insanely high level. To produce a blue fireball he would need to gather the CO2 in the air, remove an electron and create a radical reaction. He knew that. That was due to the knowledge he had and the knowledge implanted in his mind, that even surpassed everything from his world. The magic core translates thoughts into commands. But if one uses simplified commands like “burn”, the outcome will also be a simple low energy red flame. To achieve much more powerful results one needs to give more complex and detailed commands. Such as the one with the blue fireball.

After the short query, it was time to enter the arena and start the exam.
The exam itself was straightforward. Mito needs to fight one of the examiners, first with only physical strength and then with magical enhancement. In the second part he could also use spells that are not lethal. Mito saw the other three off and made his way into the arena.
The arena was an oval space filled with sand, to the left side of the entrance was a weapon stand. The arena was packed, everyone wanted to see the fights of the students. A man on the right side in the seating area announced the contestants. “And now to our second exam on this beautiful day. To the left the rumored magic genius Mito Sirova and to the right his examiner Nimar Xerain. Let the fight begin!”
Mito, not even confused from the abrupt beginning, instantly jumped to the weapon rack and pulled out two swords. He was one of the few who liked to wield two swords instead of a sword and a shield. After a few steps towards Nimar he blocked the incoming halberd by crossing the swords above his head. Then he jumped to the side and swung his right sword towards his opponent`s foot. Nimar could easily keep up with Mitos speed and strength and had no problems to doge it. They exchanged a few blows and it seemed that no one of them could get the upper hand. In pure physical combat the wolven race is by far superior to normal Estaras. Since Mito is a human he has more potential and therefore can be stronger than the Estaras but will never be able to reach the spirit wolves. The problem was that he was only sixteen. The only thing that made him keep up with Nimar was his extremely good perception and his fast mind. He could predict the next moves of his opponent based on small muscle movements.
After another minute of exchanging blows, Mito found a small opening in the thought process of his opponent. He reacted well to one or two feints, but had problems keeping up if there were more than two. Since Mito wielded two swords it was easy to produce five or six feints in a row. He then proceeded to feint two moves with both swords, overall four different attacks aimed to distract Nimar. That was simply too much for him and he couldn’t keep up. The fifth strike would have hit Nimar on the chest. But Mito stopped to not wound him and then stepped back.
The audience broke into deafening applause. It is really rare that a student wins against their examinee.
After the applause turned down, the second round started. This time they were allowed to use magic to enhance their bodies and use attack and defense spells. This is where Mito excels, fighting with both physical and magical attacks. Almost every caster uses words to express their intent in their spells. It is so that the magic core cant misinterpret the thoughts of the caster. But since Mito uses way more complex and detailed commands he doesn’t need to *cast* the spells. One thought and the spell manifests.
Because of that the whole audience was completely dumbfounded as the fireball barrage casted from Nimar simply vanished. The next second Mito was beside Nimar swinging his swords, immersed in lightning bolts, towards him. His opponent could barely block the sword strike, tumbled backwards and was shocked by the lightning. A moment later Nimar was completely immersed in an ice block. Mito won.

The audience and the announcer couldn’t follow what was happening and just stared with a confused look at the frozen Nimar. Mito then released Nimar from his cold prison and produced a heat wave around him to warm him up. Nimar then walked up to Mito and said “That was truly amazing. You are worthy of the rumored title Supreme Magic Sword, your sword skill is superb and your magic skill is probably the best in the whole country. It was a pleasure to fight you.” Mito, who was surprised by these words, thanked and bowed to him, then left the arena. Behind him the still confused audience. The only one who regained his composure in time was the announcer, who then declared the result of the exam: An absolute win for Mito.
At the exit Usplar, Yfedy and Ecivos waited for him to go to a nearby tavern. Mito, happy with his performance, had a big smile on his face. As Yfedy saw that he grinned and said “I expected nothing less from our magic freak”. The other two burst into laughter and with this mood they made their way to the tavern.
After their meal in the Tavern Ecivos lifted his beer and shouted “Cheers to Mito for his outstanding win and through this his recognition as an adult and full fledged member of the spirit wolves!” The others agreed with a loud “Cheers” and a chink of their glasses. Ecivos then asked “Mito, do you know what you want to do now? If you have no idea, may I suggest something?”
“I haven’t really thought about it yet, so let me hear your suggestion!”
“You excel at and love magic. But our race isn’t really suited to teach magic. We mostly use it to empower our bodys and wolf forms. So I would suggest you go somewhere else to study. There are two places that come to my mind either the Estarian Kingdom which is focused on studying magic or the realm of the forest spirits, which are naturally connected with magic.” Nimar, who also joined them, interjected, “ There are also the fox spirits, the best assassins you will find. They surpass everyone regarding stealth and fast hit and run magic” Ecivos laughed and said “You are right, but good luck finding them, the last time someone saw anyone from the fox spirits was twenty years ago. They are too secretive.” After a short pause Mito took the word “All right I have decided. I will go to the Estarian Kingdom.”
Ecivos looked surprised and asked “That was quick, what made you decide so fast?” Mito answered with an amused voice “There are three deciding factors. First: I want to see the race that is close to the humans on earth and I want to see if they are, as you described them, truly as arrogant and intolerant as they are on my planet. Second: There was once someone from another world who united the Estara, that is a good opportunity to learn more about this topic. And third: If they are as I imagine them, it could simply be fun to spread some chaos.” The others burst into laughter upon those last words and Usplar joked “Yes, to spread chaos in between those Estara who all have a stick up their asses and think they are on top of this world definitely sounds fun. But don't overdo it, otherwise they might fall off their high horse.” This again sent out a wave of laughter from everyone and they drank to this. They celebrated until deep into the night.
Drunk and still not willing to go to bed, Mito on his way home decided to visit the Blue leafed Spirit Tree before he made his way to the Estarian Kingdom. On his way there he wandered the empty streets and was captivated by the beautiful buildings grown out of the trees shimmering in the blue light. On arrival Mito saw an old man standing close to the tree and talking to himself or rather the tree. Mito didn’t want to disturb the old man so he stopped in his tracks. After a few minutes the old man noticed him and raised his voice “Young man come closer and listen to the tree, it has something important to tell you.” Mito, a little bit confused, stepped close to the tree and tried to listen to any voice or sound. Minutes passed and still nothing happened. He turned around to the old man and said “I am sorry, it seems I can’t hear the tree's voice.” The old man sighed and said “Too bad, maybe you should come at another time when you have learned to listen with your heart and not your ears. But let me give you some advice: If you ever come upon people in distress, help them even if you think it could kill you. It will definitely benefit you and them.” Mito, slightly confused, said “Thank you for your advice, I will do my best to fulfill it. I should probably go now, I have to get up early tomorrow.” With this Mito turned around and after a few steps the old man raised his voice again “Of course, you should go to bed and prepare. There are a lot of dangerous people in the Estarian Kingdom, be careful.” On those words Mito froze in his tracks and turned around. But when he looked at the tree, the old man was gone. Unable to find him, Mito made his way home. ‘It seems that was one of those mysterious encounters. But how did he know that I am going to the Estarian Kingdom? I should definitely keep his advice in mind.”
On the next day Mito prepared everything for his journey to the Estarian Kingdom. Usplar and Ecivos would accompany him until they reach the border of the Ceris Kingdom, from there it wasn’t far to the Estarian Capital.
He packed food and water, his two swords, a tent, clothing and a lot of useful tools for his journey. He also went to his friend's home and said farewell to them. They won't see each other for a while.
Ecivos told him that there is a magic academy he should immatriculate: The Arthur Snow Academy. It’s aim is to train young mages and fighters in the age between sixteen and eighteen. This would be his first stop when he reaches the capital, because if he got accepted they would provide food and shelter for him.
After Mito finished packing, he met up with Usplar and Ecivos at the outskirts of the city. Yfedy was also there to bid him farewell.
Usplar and Ecivos transformed into the monstrous wolves and gestured to him to jump on top. Mito sat onto Ecivos back and was almost thrown down as they started running. They maneuvered through the forest as if there weren't even any trees. After about two hours they reach an open field, well known to Mito. The field where he first arrived in this world.

8 158Beyond Floating
Muse thought her life had ended twenty years ago because, well, it had. Existing aimlessly for two decades as a ghost, she finds herself yanked along in a rip-tide of strange events. Thrust unwittingly into the midst of a group of paranormal hitmen-for-hire led by a man named Isaac. Michael, a normally rational and righteous holy soldier of God, succumbs to revenge and hatred, sacrificing everything in the fight to destroy Isaac and everyone who associates with him. Muse, by virtue of her inadvertent association with Isaac, is on that list. This is actually my first 'finished' fiction that I've ever written, which I completed about 8 years ago. I dug it up recently and I'm posting it as I thought people here might get a kick out of it. So, take that for what you will. Chapters will be released daily at 6:00pm EST.
