《Mankind's Blessing》Prologue

It was late at night when Damian arrived home. After another strenuous day of college and work, he made his way into his undersized apartment. His living space wasn't impressive. It was a shabby one bedroom apartment on the second floor that didn't have a kitchen or living room. The dim light from his ceiling flickered as he made his way to his bathroom, the only other room in his living quarters, to take a much needed shower. He cleansed his dirtied skin from the construction labor, welcoming the warmth of the hot water into his body. After he had dried himself, he changed into his pajamas and promptly made his way to his bed, placing himself under the thin sheets. The cold night made it difficult to fall asleep, but eventually he blacked out.
Damian's dreams today were weird. He has had weird dreams before but today's dream was particularly weird. His body floated in a dark space with red and blue lights on his sides. Blue on the left and red on the right. He could move his limbs freely which surprised him as he had never had a lucid dream before. Suddenly, strongly distorted images flashed in front of his eyes. He tried to make out the mess of bright lines.
A messy room with papers covering the floor? A barely recognizable image of his father? A clump of men armed with, were those rubber chickens?
The images made no sense to Damian and were too blinding to look at, so he turned away and covered his eyes with his arms. Eventually, the images ceased and once again Damian silently floated in the dark space in between the red and blue lights.
Soon after, another light materialized. However, it wasn't like the repulsive and bright images from before that hurt his eyes. This white light was welcoming. I have to go there, was the singular thought that consumed Damian's mind. His body, as if reacting to his desire, pulled him closer to the comforting whiteness. Damian reached out his hand and entered the illumination, which returned the dream world to darkness.

There will be occasional user polls to decide how the story progresses, interspersed throughout the story, and the polls that were done in the original version will still apply to the current version. Also if you have any suggestions for story ideas that you would like to see incorporated, leave a comment about it, and they might show up in the future. Lastly, I hope you enjoy the story, and thanks for reading. P.S. Thanks to gej302 for the cover art.
