《War of Auras》Chapter 3 - Tartus' choice

Back to the Great Stadium.
The arena gets louder. After seeing Eiden's power, they now understand how he was able to become a general with only 17.
"How amazing!!"
"He is an angel!!"
"It's so incredible!!!"
Everyone was impressed; they could not take their eyes off Eiden.
Eiden's power is much different from Rina's and Gale's. It was something unique. When using his ability, Eiden's clothes change to a golden armor. It is much brighter and more magnificent than a standard gold armor. Eiden's armor would be impossible to recreate with the metals presented in this world. Eiden also materializes a sword that looks to be made from the same metal as the armor.
All of the people watching, even not fully understanding Eiden's ability, knew that it was something incredible.
King Willian explains Eiden's power to everyone.
"Eiden has a very peculiar power. His aura works differently than one of normal people. Instead of being able to conjure or manipulate elements from our world, like plants or lightning. Eiden can summon armor and weapons from somewhere else."
The entire arena gets confused after hearing that from Willian.
"What I mean by that is. Not even I understand it very well. But both Eiden's armor and sword are made from metals of another world. Incredible, isn't it!?"
"Wow, amazing."
"I never have heard of something like that before."
Says the people on the bleachers.
Hmm. That sure is interesting. So that boy has summoning powers. He is a rare type. Thinks Tartus.
"So Tartus, now that every general showed off their abilities. You can choose now one of the three to become your apprentice. Who is going to be!?"
The arena gets visibly excited.
"Well, all of you have amazing powers. You are all great."

While talking, Tartus starts thinking to himself.
Especially Eiden, with his power, he can become highly mighty. But...
"I will choose..."
It is not like I am here for this reason anyways.
"No one."
The entire Stadium stays absolutely quiet for a couple of seconds.
Willian is the first one to speak.
"No one? What do you mean?" Asks Willian nervously.
"Well, I just don't think I would be of any help to any of them. They are already too powerful."
Everyone gets confused, and people start whispering to each other.
Willian approach Tartus and whispers to him.
"Can we talk outside?"
"Sure."
"Hey, you." Says Willian to his advisor.
"Make the people get entertained again. When you think that they forgot about Tartus, end the presentation."
"How am I going to do that?" Asks the advisor nervously.
"I don't know, tell the generals to showcase more of their abilities or make the governors talk about their new proposals for the next year. Do whatever you like, but the people can't leave here disappointed."
After Willian says that, he and Tartus exit the V.I.P room.
"Huh... Why don't, huh... Eiden, could you show more of your power to us." Says the advisor to the whole arena.
Heh. What about Tartus? This thought was in everyone's mind right now. Eiden is impressive, but the people came for Tartus.
"Well, I never thought something like that would happen." Says Dale, the governor of the coast.
Ian, the governor of the south, shows a small smile.
"Why are you smiling at? Are you happy with this situation?" Asks Edwin, the governor of the north, angrily.
"Well, all of you were naive to think that Tartus would actually pick someone." Answers Ian.

"What do you mean?" Asks both Edwin and Dale.
"Well, I don't know why Tartus came here. But I know that getting closer to Erex is the last thing Tartus wants now. Not after what happened."
After leaving the V.I.P area, Willian starts speaking to Tartus.
"What is that supposed to mean!?"
"Well, I said it. I'm not going to be of any help to any of the generals."
"You are not getting the point here! You are not here to make them stronger. None of them needs training everyone knows that. By picking some of them to train, you would be showing everyone that you want to get closer to Erex. That was the point of your visit!"
"Is that so? I didn't realize it." Says Tartus with a smile.
"You didn't realize it? I highly doubt that."
Willian continues.
"Well, if you still want to get closer to Erex, choosing one of the generals won't be an option anymore. Then choose someone else, anyone please."
"I will think about it."
"I am serious, Tartus! I wasn't king during your time as a knight. But I would love to get closer to you. You are a hero, after all."
"You definitely want. That would improve your image, wouldn't it."
Willian sights.
"Tartus, the one that would benefit the most would be you. In every generation, a new hero appears; they come and go, sure they are remembered. But a kingdom. A kingdom stays forever. Tartus, your generation has ended, and just like every hero, Tartus the Titan could be easily forgotten. Because, unlike kingdoms, every hero dies."
"Is that a threat?" Asks Tartus with a serious expression.
"It is more like advice."
"Sure. Well, I will think about picking someone else as an apprentice."
"Good."
"Can I go now? I'm exhausted."
"Yes, you can. Think about it, remember."
Tartus walks away from Willian and leaves the Great Stadium.
Willian returns to the V.I.P area.
"So, how is it going?" Asks Willian to his advisor.
"Well, I tried everything I could, but no one is as excited as they were before."
"That's fine."
Willian starts speaking to the arena.
"My dear citizens. I'm sorry for what happened; unfortunately, as Tartus said, he doesn't think he would be of any help to any of the generals. But I have good news. Tartus really wants to get closer to Erex, and that's why he will pick someone else. I don't know who it will be, but I'm sure he will choose someone as strong as the prodigy generals. I know that's not the expected outcome, but I hope you understand. Tartus is also extremely sad about the situation."
The people in the arena are still disappointed. Still, King Willian's words, which sound so genuine, made everyone understand the situation.
"Now, with that, the presentation is over! I hope you all enjoyed it!"
After Willian says that, the people start leaving the Great Stadium, which is about to close. The day of Tartus' visit was officially over.
The ones in the V.I.P area were the last to leave.
"So you were wrong after all. Tartus does want to get closer to Erex." Says Dane to Ian while leaving.
"Yeah, I guess I was wrong." Says Ian with a smile.
What is your actual goal here, Tartus? That is what Ian is thinking at the moment.
