《Maverick Engineer Saga》The Forgotten love letter (Prologue)

The sun was about to set, and a sprawling campus filled with students and teachers was leaving for their homes after a hectic workday. The lone building at the science department where the door was half-closed, and an eighteen-year-old boy was peering over test tubes filled with various bubbling concoctions. The boy was slightly built and wearing large spectacles.
"Arjun," a voice called over the boy from the entrance of the room. The boy was not responding, still staring at the test tubes intently.
"ARJUN! I am speaking to you"
"Ah! Asira teacher, sorry I was doing the experiment and paid little attention.” He scratched his head and laughed sheepishly.
Asira frowned, "It is the time! I want to close the lab."
He looked at the teacher with pleading eyes. Usually, Asira was not strict and popular with students, but today was the last working day of the semester, and the university would be closed for ten days.
"Teacher, I will lock the doors and cupboards as usual before leaving."
The female teacher sighed and stared at the boy. She liked the boy like a younger brother, and both had a similar passion for chemistry, but obsessing over it was not right. "Okay, I will close the windows, but do not waste materials; this is for the entire year."
"Yes, teacher. "He had a nagging sensation of forgetting something, but if he could not remember, then it might not be important.
For an entire semester, he worked as an unpaid lab assistant because he liked chemistry. Well, not just chemistry. Asira was kind and beautiful. She was pretty well built and had a fair complexion.
"I am leaving. Don't forget to give the keys to the security department," Asira said.
"Don't worry, teacher. This is my last experiment. I will hand over the keys to security," the boy replied, still hunched over test tubes.

The teacher sighed and was about to say something, but shrugged and closed the door softly and left the campus.
"Why is the colour not changing? What did I forget?" He murmured and looked at a test tube with an unknown violet-coloured liquid.
He looked at a well-used textbook that he was holding in his hand. "I followed the instructions properly and left nothing out."
"Hmm, I forgot to include this ingredient. " He took the test tube and poured it carefully. The liquid colour changed slowly to colourless.
He started grinning, but slowly his laugh tinged with a maniacal tone at the success of the experiment. Then a paper fell from his well-used textbook made him pause. Arjun’s laughing face abruptly morphed into an ugly scowl; "Shit! I forgot to give my love letter to the teacher".
The boy sagged because of crippling disappointment and crashed into the materials kept in a rack in front of him to fall. This action made his experiment present in a test tube mixed with various chemical ingredients from the rack.
Bang
The explosion caused shock waves and made him crash into the wall behind him.
Arjun felt groggy and tried to get up, but felt pain in his legs. The golden plumes of smoke arose from the crashed site of various materials. He panicked and tried to stand up again, but failed. The golden plumes gradually covered the entire room, and he blacked out.
ooo0ooo
Myriad of souls filled the void, looking like stars in the dark sky. There was a particular soul-tinged with golden fume, moving and blinking erratically. The said soul suddenly glowed a bright golden colour and moved out from the group into the void.
The gold-tinged soul moved for an unknown time and distance and suddenly plunged towards the dark brown planet. When it reached the atmosphere of the planet, a blue light without warning slammed and tunnelled inside the golden soul and vanished from sight.

Arjun felt awake and asleep at the same time. He didn't know the passing of time. All he felt was a dreamy sky full of bright neon lights and sensed moving towards eternal darkness.
He felt a pain worse than all the pain experienced in his brief life, almost felt like his soul was tearing to pieces. The distress became unbearable, and his consciousness embraced the darkness of the void.

Gaslgiht
There is a common line of questioning that falls upon students within their first moments at Kingsly. “Why?”. The student asks, “Why am I here?”. This is a futile line of questioning. There are those who remember, and those who do not. I’ll spare you the technical explanation — that’s what we have teachers for. The jist is as follows: those who remember are... how do I put this... more likely. They occupy more time. and the space that time has allowed them — the pertinent amount — is experienced no matter what. Allow me to offer you a bit of personal information: I am not one who remembers. There is no time relevant to me, no space that I occupy. I exist by carving myself here, and continue to exist in the same fashion. You would do well to follow suit. Why am I here? Because I force myself to be. Because the universe, the universes, for all its kicking and screaming, cannot escort me out.

Almost a Good Person
A memory, a memory of a boy who wanted more than pain, of a girl who wanted more than death, and an Isle that should not exist. The Isle of Red is a small, unassuming, quiet place. It is just large enough for a college, a small town, and maybe even a few more unusual sorts of places. Of course, the townsfolk practically know each other as family. Flush-faced regulars can be found toasting just about anything in the Briar's Brew, then, a few streets away, the same haggle of older women stationed themselves on their perch as they did every day from one of the few balconies in Central Square. They fuss away now, spouting the usual gossip as they watch us all from on high. Then there is the College here on the Isle of Red. My college. It has been often described as an unusual place by a good deal of people on the mainland. If they only would visit -why I am sure they'll soon have a change of heart, they may even come to find it a quaint sort of place, odd but in the same way a tattered old quilt can be both odd looking and warm, and especially soft. We teach mostly the same sort of disciplines here, with fantastic and absolutely normal professors.I must conclude that I am quite smitten with myself. The stage is set with a level of perfection that would have astonished me in my youth. They are coming. Derek will follow her. He knows the weight of reality too intimately, but she will be his true north if only for a short time. A beacon in the storm to show him the stunning pastels and brightness the sun may yet refract through his thinner, sharper pieces. Theoline will lead as she always has- well not always, not yet. She holds onto questions feverishly tight, that one. Lights them up inside like a new type of fuel without the slightest worry of being burned. She knows... There is but a certain few who can look at a map and find nothing where I stand but the Atlantic Ocean. And still, there is earth beneath me, a noisy pub down the road from me, and several people clucking conspiratorially on a balcony above me. She knows... that the Isle of Red doesn't belong here. Neither, technically, do I. (Hello!
