《This Devil Grants Wishes》Arc 1: Mira in a Doomsday World [2]

Chapter 2
When Mira awoke, she couldn't help but sigh in comfort.
The feeling of being able to sleep in soft cushion again was really refreshing!
She enjoyed the snug feeling for a while, then stretched her limbs lazily.
It was rare for her to meet someone with the same name as her, so when she previously interacted with the soul named Mira and learned of her life story, Mira's mood turned sour.
Someone with the same name as her actually lived such a terrible life!!! It made her feel unpleasant just thinking about it.
In fact, that girl was actually quite lucky. Mira originally hated hardships, and an apocalyptic world with ugly zombies and little to no chance of leisure wasn't something that Mira usually bothered to delve into. If not for the two of them having the same name, Mira would be too lazy to agree with the trade.
Thinking about it, Mira actually regretted it a little bit already. She was able to wake up safely in an abandoned hotel, but it was already the apocalypse. Later on, she would have to fight zombies and scavenge for food... Ugh.
Mira sat up and sighed.
She was already here, there's no point in regretting.
Suddenly, there was a noise of the door outside being opened loudly. Messy footsteps and heavy breathing entered Mira's ears.
She squinted her eyes thoughtfully.
She chose a place close to her target-Xu, Wei Lin's most important person-therefore, it was easy to guess who the person outside the bedroom was.
Mira dove back into the sheets and fixed her posture. If someone were to enter, they would see a delicate girl sleeping peacefully, completely isolated from all the chaos of the outside world.
A few moments later, the door of the bedroom was also pushed open, and a tall silhouette of a man appeared.
Originally, the man was gasping loudly due to pain, but seeing the figure on the bed, all the noise suddenly disappeared. He instinctively held his breath and focused all his attention to the sight in front of him.
On the large white bed, a delicate figure lay quietly. Her skin was abnormally pale-almost as white as the sheets she was laying on-and the dark hair that was spread all over the pillow created a beautiful contrast that made people's hearts beat faster. The sun was just rising, and there was a little bit of sunlight that spilled through the windows, illuminating her beautiful features. Long, fan-like lashes, small, heart-shaped lips, a cute, slightly upturned nose, and rosy cheeks... such a clean, almost ethereal beauty was rare in the apocalypse. The man by the doorway couldn't help but to stop his actions and admire her for a while.

A thousand thoughts was racing through his head.
He couldn't help but wonder-how could someone still look so clean and pure, as if they have never suffered at all?
It took a while for Xu to snap out of his trance.
In this era, even zombies are able to disguise themselves as humans. High-level zombies have incredible IQs and were even more terrifying than zombie tides.
If the unknown being lying on the bed was a zombie...
But Xu no longer had the time to think further. His consciousness was blurring, and he couldn't even focus his gaze anymore. He locked his eyes on the person on the bed, hoping that he would be lucky enough to come across someone who was not malicious.
When Xu fell with a thud, Mira hummed softly and turned on her side, performing the act of a sleeping person about to wake up perfectly.
Her lashes slowly fluttered open, as if in a trance.
She sat up habitually, rubbing her eyes and yawning softly.
Such a cute scene made would make anybody freeze and stare, unfortunately, Mira's audience was no longer conscious.
Mira's sighed in annoyance, but still got up.
She painstakingly pulled Xu onto the bed, removed his shirt, and stared at the deep claw marks across his chest.
Mira opened her palm, and a small white porcelain bottle appeared in her hand. This was a miraculous medicine obtained from one of the worlds she had previously visited. There were many of these stocked up in her space, so using one up was no big deal to Mira.
She carelessly poured the liquid over the injuries, and in an instant, the deep wounds immediately started to close at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Mira stood up and went out of the room. She took a bowl of water and a towel from the kitchen and started scrubbing the blood off of Xu's body. She admired his well-defined muscles along the way, humming cheerfully.
Well, although doomsday worlds are a bit more dirty and disgusting than most worlds, it also had its own benefits. For example, because of the human gene's ability to adapt and overcome certain harmful agents that try to take over the body, many humans have rapidly evolved in the apocalypse. The effect varies in different worlds, depending on what sort of virus or foreign being they encounter. Generally, people's physiques become enhanced and they gain unique abilities, and in this world's case, humans like Xu have gained empowered bodies and senses, allowing them more chances of survival, and of course, allowing Mira to have more eye candies.

The sun was just rising, and a bit of light entered from the gaps of the curtains and lit up the room. Mira could clearly see Xu's sharp features.
Born with such a handsome face and dignified bearing, it's no wonder that Wei Lin could be so infatuated with him.
Xu's real name was Jun Xu.
His father, Jun Xie, was the owner of a huge corporation. He was involved in many underground deals and held the biggest plot secret in the world-he started the apocalypse. Out of deep love and obsession for his lost beloved, Jun Xie tried to resurrect Xu's mom, An Wei, by creating a secret laboratory that experimented on live humans.
By accident, Jun Xu learned of this matter. He couldn't accept the fact that he was related to such a man, therefore, he abandoned the surname 'Jun' and started living as just 'Xu'.
Not long after Jun Xu bravely went against his father and reported him to the authorities, the apocalypse broke out.
Behind Jun Xie's laboratory was a stagnant water source that became the dumping site for the dead bodies of failed 'experimental subjects'. Due to the toxins in these bodies, that particular area became the source of mutant creatures. It started from rodents and insects that liked to dwell in that place, then the plants around slowly mutated, until a strange disease spread throughout the laboratory's staff. One by one, Jun Xie's employess started getting sick, and even Jun Xie became infected.
At first, there was only headache and light cough. Then, they started thinning down at a speed visible to the naked eyes. This was accompanied by a sudden increase in appetite-three meals a day turned into four, then five, with snacks in between. Their bodies were getting stronger, but they were always too lethargic to realize. Of course, they gradually noticed these abnormalities, so they all went back in panic to recuperate by themselves one by one.
Only Jun Xie was left in the laboratory, but his symptoms were the worst. Because of his exposure to his experiments everyday, he had no time to take proper care of himself. He was thinner than most of his staff, and his appetite was stronger too. He didn't fully discover his weirdness, until one day, he had thoughts about eating a certain human organ.
Jun Xie was a smart man. Someone who was capable enough to start a secret unethical lab and avoid conviction for years would naturally be able to draw conclusions over what was going on.
Jun Xie conducted various tests on himself and found out that his physical state was extremely abnormal. His body was consuming too much energy and nutrients at an abnormal speed, and where they are ending up to was unknown. And while the rest of his body was being enhanced, his brain was deteriorating, and he soon realized that his memories were starting to become blurred.
It wasn't long before only Jun Xie's most primitive instincts remained. He turned into a monster who craved flesh and blood. The 'experimental subjects' became his first victims, but of course, there were those who were able to escape.
Unfortunately, they already carried the virus with them.
This was the start of the so-called apocalypse.
The people who managed to resist the virus gained enhanced abilities. For example, some suddenly gained 'super-strength', while others' eyesight or hearing became a several times more sensitive than before.
The world completely changed overnight. No country was spared. Those who wanted to escape took flights to different places, spreading the disease to more and more locations, until the entire world was plagued with these 'zombies'.
Xu felt both resentful and guilty. It was his own father who started this mess, and he felt a certain sense of responsibility to end the tragic apocalypse.
This was why he didn't hesitate to associate with Wei Lin.
Wei Lin revealed her foreknowledge to Xu before the apocalypse started. Xu believed her, because at that time, only he was aware that his father was conducting shocking misdeeds under their government's noses. Wei Lin's accurate narratives only made him trust her more.
However, Xu was very focused on his main objective-to end the apocalypse. Although Xu viewed Wei Lin as a close companion, he had no other thoughts about her. At least, they haven't made much progress over the romance department just yet.
In fact, their entire team was aware of Wei Lin's feelings for Xu. Even though Wei Lin had a 'cold goddess' setting, her different attitude towards Xu was extremely obvious.
This was why Mira chose Xu as her arrival target. First, she would stick to Xu and infiltrate the team. With the leader backing her up, nobody would dare to drive her away so blatantly. Moreover, this was also Wei Lin's sore spot. She just killed her sister, Mira, the person she had been jealous of her whole life, and then, another Mira appeared-this time, beside her dearest Xu.
Mira felt excited just thinking about Wei Lin's frustration during these days to come...

Cheaters Always Win
Chester Everheart knew that life wasn't fair. Some were born in situations where it was almost impossible to succeed, whereas others were born with a silver spoon with everything at their disposal. A scant few were dropped into another world, filled with monsters and magic and forced to fend for themselves. The latter was a rare, somewhat ridiculous trope; but it happened to him anyway. Despite this he followed a motto that applied regardless of the dimension he was in. Playing fair is for suckers, and cheaters always win. Cheaters Always Win is a comedy-adventure that I've had churning in my head for a couple years now. I'd like to think it still has the charm that most LitRPGs have while also being unique in its own way. Every arc of the story will subsequently have a 'Level Complete' chapter that details all the stats, levels, equipment, etc. gained by the main cast of characters.
