Epilogue The Wolf King’s PoW

He was a wolf. Wolves did not have names. The free ones did not, and only free ones were true wolves.

He was not an ordinary wolf. It still held true that he had no name, but he had a title. He was the King among the wolves. And now this King was annoyed and he had a problem he wanted to solve.

The little humans like ants were scuttling around his mountains. He knew them to be searching for him, but they would not find him. Not unless he wished for it.

The little humans were not a problem. An annoyance yes, but not a problem.

There were humans who were a problem, but Esha was the one who dealt with them. This King would not interfere with him. Esha was his friend and smelled of power.

This King had not met many humans that did. Only two more that had that girl with no smell. This King did not worry over them. His instincts did not warn him when he had met them.

The King travelled over his mountains. On every step, he took the forests opened their paths to him. Every step he took brought him closer to his goal and hopefully an answer.

At the Kings destination, another King awaited him. Both of them knew how humans spoke, but they had no need for such crude methods between Kings.

The other King knew of the problem. He had no solution to offer. His forests too were culled by someone. It had come and gone, no traces left. Not even smell. Only carnage.

The Wolf King was displeased. It meant that he would have to travel and find another King. He would not do that. He had his own mountains to guard.

To find another King was a gruelling task. Not even his nouse could guarantee success. The Kings did not meet each other. They were solitary creatures.

This King did remember his pack. They had not been able to keep up with him. He still took care of them, brought them prey. Now revered him. He was not one of them.

Once again, The Wolf King took a deep breath. It was time to return to his den. He had to make sure that he did not miss anything.

With the breath came information. The stench made by humans. The fragrance of nature and a whiff of power.

Nature had gained another assortment of new scents. So had humans, but those scents were harder to sort out.

The King slowly tasted the new sensations. He doubted many of them would last. Someone or something was hunting them.

The King wanted to help these new scents to survive. Not all new ones needed help. Some even were more like pests. A danger to their kind, but those were hunted too. Sometimes by the threat, sometimes others.

There was something else. This King felt it. Not in the air, but he felt it still. Nature was angry. The world would not stand for it. There would be a fight.

Another whiff arrived. The King felt a newborn, but different from the rest and there something else. Another newborn, but it was old. This King did not understand it. He would not search for it, he would not go to human cities.

With a wave of its tail, He parted with the other King. They would not meet again. They were solitary creatures.

The Wolf King ran and the world parted its way. Soon he was upon one of the new scents he had felt. It was a small mouse, but it smelled of power. A deviation.

It was small, it could hide, so maybe it would live. He looked down at the creature with interest but soon lost it. It would not grow to be a King.

The King continued his path back to his mountains. He guarded them, but someone was intruding them. A dangerous foe, but not to him.

Suddenly the King stopped. His fur was standing up. His instincts screamed. Another being was born. This one was dangerous. This one would rival him. Not a King, but it could be a threat.

A deep breath and he knew it to be part of nature. But danger. He felt it was young and knew nothing of the world. The King's instincts whispered to him... It was not up to him to deal with it.

The King continued his path. Many things had changed. When the King had awoken He had already known the world. The new one did not. Not knowing was dangerous. Not only to self but to others as well. This King knew not to be overconfident. He knew of a place. Not many did.

A place where no King went. It was dead. But it had power. He would not go to that place. It was far, so far that he was not sure it was even part of the world. Even his knowledge of it was a coincidence. He had felt when it came open, but it was now closed again.

The King arrived home. His den was a place where he spent most of his time. Only a cave, but simple and comfortable.

This cave was from where the King controlled these mountains. His mountains. They may change, but he will still rule over them. That was his resolve and right, for He was the King of Wolves.
