“Dark energy,” he muttered to the old golden retriever huddled at his feet.
“Dark energy was a great discovery, Doctor.”
He dismissed the words with a skeletal wave of the hand. “The greatest. It changed everything. I know. How could they not?”
“Perhaps they do not have the perspective that you possess?”
He ran his cadaverous fingers down the retriever’s spine. “What could be more obvious? Wormholes require enormous amounts of energy. Did they think they just spontaneously appeared?” He clenched the retriever’s fur. “I gave it to them to reap and sow. Interstellar travel. Time travel. It was all me. I harnessed dark energy. Unleashed the motive force of the universe. Put creation at their fingertips.”
“You are a god to many, Doctor.”
“Not to them,” he scoffed into the ether. “Ingrates. They snubbed me. Gave it to someone else. A nothing. A less than nothing. What did he do?”
“Miracles they say.”
“Poppycock! Thermodynamics does not permit miracles. No one knows better than I the quid pro quo of existence.” He stamped a foot and the retriever stirred with a growl. “They dishonor me with their ignorance.”
“Might they be trying to save face? You have been patient.”
“My patience wears as thin as the veil that separates us.”
“Doctor, they are young.”
“They are ungrateful.” He raised gnarled fists in displeasure. The ether crackled for countless parsecs.
“If they come with the offering, you will remain dignified? Decent? All will be forgiven. Will it not?”
“When they come calling, and they will, I will take my honor and my dark energy and give them the cold shoulder.” The retriever rose as the firmament on which it rested became unsteady.
“Heat death, Doctor? The Committee will never accept it.”
“The Committee be damned! It is my choice now.”
“Can you not share it?”
“We will all share this cold comfort. Heat death.” He grinned as the retriever looked up into the thinning cosmos and shivered.

8 520Demonizing Matters
A high fantasy drama about a young woman who finds out a demon secret. This secret sparks a growing conflict between demons and humans. While trying to save her own life and dealing with the unexpected consequences of her actions, she falls in love with a hated demon. We follow the drama of Lita, alongside a cast of several other POV characters, as she discovers secrets (both open and purposefully hidden), makes well intentioned but sometimes disastrous decisions, and encounters prejudices and truths. Demons may be evil… or not. Humans may be good… or not. God is aloof… or not. Publishing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This is my first real work! Super excited to be publishing! I don’t spend a lot of time describing gore, sex, trauma or any other type of scene that would be labeled as mature. I've labeled the story as mature in every way more because I don't quite understand the standard and don't know if I've crossed the line at all (and I'd rather be safe than get my story rejected for under labeling ;)). Mostly I hint, start the scene then interrupt/fade out, and in general let the reader know it happens but without making it too explicit. (I’d love to hear how I did on this! And if it was still entertaining/informative without being traumatizing.) This is what I prefer to read myself so that’s what I write. I’m not apologizing. ;) If I mislabeled my mature content it was by accident. And, yes, the pacing was also on purpose. Beyond that, I welcome any feedback you want to give! Enjoy the story!
8 199Evolve, Overcome, Connect
Aria has never felt so alone, even among people. But when someone who feels equally alone washes up on shore... she thinks maybe they could be alone, together. (Exophilia romance. The Love Interest only looks vaguely human-like. Warnings are for mentions of sexual violence, depictions of violence, depictions of injuries and abusive parents being... around. Main characters are well past twenty years of age, for those of you who want older protags in their romance.)
