Previously on Protector's of Worlds:
After nearly escaping a vicious battle, Arui’Kotamu decided she would train Calem so he learned how to defend himself and escape dangerous situations. What does she have in store for him? Let us see…….
X
It was early in the morning as we found Calem sleeping in his bed as it turned out to be a mess. He was sleeping in an awkward position, drooling all over the pillow and his blanket and the other pillow were lying on the floor. As he was peacefully sleeping, he was abruptly woken up by the loud slamming of the door.
“Time for training!” Arui’Kotamu said as she walked into the room before shoving Calem to get him up. “Come on, let’s go.” Arui’Kotamu said.
“(groans).......Just 30 more minutes, then I’ll get up.” Calem said in a tired voice as he rolled over.
She sighed before she grabbed the mattress and raised it, causing Calem to slide down and hit his face on the ground.
X
In the training room, Arui’Kotamu was doing stretches for her shoulders and legs as she waited. Calem then enters the room wearing a green bodysuit with yellow lines on it.
“Did you really have to wake me up like that?” Calem said as he was rubbing his nose, which was injured from the fall.
“If I didn’t, you would’ve slept through the entire day.” Arui’Kotamu replied.
“So, what kind of training will I be receiving?” Calem asked
“We’ll begin with hand-to-hand combat. First……….” Arui’Kotamu stopped before getting into a combat position. “Try and attack me.”
“O-Okay…..If that’s what you want.” Calem said right before charging towards Arui’Kotamu. He swung a few punches at her, in which she dodged and blocked with ease. He kept doing this but wasn’t able to make a direct hit on her. She then dodged under before sweeping his leg, causing him to fall on his sides.
“Not good enough, Calem Drewick.” Arui’Kotamu said as Calem slowly gets up. “Your swings are too aggressive and you're just mindlessly throwing punches.” She said right before walking over to a cabinet that contained different kinds of weapons. She grabbed one of the hilts before throwing it over to Calem. He caught it in mid-air before pressing a button on it which summoned a blue sword of pure energy.
“Since it’s been determined that you're not good with hand-to-hand combat, let’s see how good you are with a weapon.” Arui’Kotamu said right before gesturing to him to bring it on. “Try and slice my head off.”
Calem hesitated for a bit before charging towards Arui’Kotamu, ready to swing his sword at her. He took a big swing at her but she quickly dodged it before uppercutting him, causing him to fall on his back.
“Not good enough.” Arui’Kotamu said before helping Calem up. “Looks like you’re gonna need lots of combat training.”
“Got it.” Calem replied to her. You're pretty good at this. Who taught you to fight?”
“My father did. He didn’t start training me until I was 49.” Arui’Kotamu said.
“Oh, that’s……….” Calem paused his sentence as his eyes rolled around and thought about what Arui’Kotamu said. “What did you say?”
“What?” Arui’Kotamu said.
“Your father started training you when you were……….?” Calem stopped to let Arui’Kotamu finish.
“49. It was about……..20 years ago when my training began” Arui’Kotamu said which caused Calem eyes to widen with a shocked expression on his face.
“t-t-t-twenty years ago? So that would make you………?” Calem said as he stuttered.

“I’m 69 now.” Arui’Kotamu said which shocked him even more.
“Y-You’re…69 years old?!!” Calem yelled out his question as he found out that Arui’Kotamu was much older than him, but still looked young.
“Yeah. Why’s that so shocking to you? How old are you?” Arui’Kotamu said.
“I’m 18!” Calem yelled out, which shocked Arui’Kotamu.
“Eighteen?!” Arui’Kotamu said before a thought struck her mind. “Well, guess our species ages differently. Anyway, let’s move on.” Arui’Kotamu said as she left the room while Calem stood still, shocked and confused.
X
A few minutes had passed and Calem found himself in another room, which looked like some kind of shooting range.
“So, what are we doing here?” Calem asked.
“I want you to show me what you can do with your gauntlet.” Arui’Kotamu said. “Try to destroy one of the targets.”
“O-Okay.” Calem said as he extended his left arm towards one of the targets. His gauntlet then starts glowing as tiny sparks of electricity appear before Calem fires a beam of blue lightning. The beam hits a target which causes it to explode, causing small pieces of it to scatter everywhere. After watching that, Arui’Kotamu had a look of amazement on her after witnessing the kind of power Calem possessed.
“So, what did you think?” Calem asked.
“A-Amazing, Calem Drewick. That was amazing.” Arui’Kotamu said. “What else can you do with it?”
“Well……...just about that.” Calem said.
“Th-That’s it?” Arui’Kotamu asked him.
“Afraid so.” Calem said as Arui’Kotamu start’s thinking about Calem’s gauntlet.
X
After doing some practice in the shooting range, Arui’Kotamu then takes him to the gym again.
“For this, Calem Drewick, I want you to……” Arui’Kotamu said right before an irritated Calem interrupted her.
“Okay, you don’t need to be calling me by my full name.” Calem said.
“Oh?” Arui’Kotamu said with confusion.
“Just call me Calem for now.” Calem said to her. “Does that sound okay to you, Arui……..may I call you Arui?”
“S-Sure……” Arui’Kotamu said as she was confused by that, but then shrugged it off. “Anyway, for this, I want you to run some laps until you get tired.”
“You got it.” Calem said as he started running around the gym. He reached the 2nd lap and seemed fine but when he reached the 5th lap, he was starting to get exhausted, started sweating and was breathing hard for air. As he finished his final lap, he sat down on a bench as and started catching his breath.
“H-How w-was that?” Calem said to Arui’Kotamu as he was breathing in and out for air, while she remained silent.
“Follow me when you're ready.” Arui’Kotamu said, allowing Calem a brief time of rest.
X
When Calem recovered, he followed Arui’Kotamu who led him outside in the wasteland. She then asked him to hand over his gauntlet, which he did.
“W-Why are we out here?” Calem asked her.
“You’ll see.” Arui’Kotamu said as she grabbed a recorder-like device, which plays the howl of a luvantek. The recording stopped as Calem had a shocked expression on his face.
“A-A-Arui…….what are you doing?” Calem asked, wondering why she did that in which she just looked at him.
“Run.” The only thing Arui’Kotamu said to Calem right before running away from him.
“Huh?” Calem said right before he sees 5 luvantek appear in the distance, drooling and ready to eat him,
“Uh…..Arui?” Calem said as he looked around for Arui’Kotamu, but she was nowhere in sight. “ARUI!!”

The luvantek then started running towards Calem, which caused him to run for his life. Despite running so fast, the luvantek were able to catch up to him. One of them jumped on Calem, knocking him to the ground. As it was about to sink its fangs into Calem, gas grenades rolled towards the luvantek and started releasing gas. The luvantek ran away from the gas as Calem covered his mouth and nose. Suddenly, he was tossed a device that looked like a mask.
“Put it on.” Arui’Kotamu said as she emerged from the gas wearing a helmet. Calem puts the mask on his face which then formed around his head, turning it into a helmet. Arui’Kotamu then helps him up.
“Thanks for that……...but could you explain what the hell that was all for?!” Calem yelled out.
“To test out your speed, agility and reflexes.” Arui’Kotamu said. “In order to escape enemies, you must have the speed for it and the reflexes to avoid obstacles.”
“Well, that “test” nearly got me killed!” Calem said.
“Be expecting more, cause as long as you're living with…...I’ll make you go through this every day till you’re ready.” Arui’Kotamu said as Calem gulped nervously, knowing there’s more in store……..
X 5 days later X
Five days have passed since Calem’s training started. While he has slightly improved in hand-to-hand combat, he still has trouble learning how to fight with weapons like the plasma sword and spear and he hasn’t found new abilities for his gauntlet. Arui’Kotamu made Calem start lifting weights, which he had trouble with.
X
We see Calem in the shooting range, testing out new abilities but could only fire a beam of lightning. This frustrated him but then he thought about things from his world that could help him out.
It was then that an idea hit him. He closed his eyes before reaching his left arm out before forming a fist. While doing this, tiny sparks of electricity form around his hand before forming into a bolt of lightning.
“Holy shit…..It worked!” Calem said with excitement as he was able to hold a lightning bolt in his hand. He brings his arm back before throwing the lightning bolt, causing the bolt to hit a target which explodes into a dozen pieces, causing a big smile to appear on his face.
X
Excited that he has made some progress with his powers, Calem decided to share this with Arui’Kotamu. He knocked on her door and waited for a response but after waiting for three minutes, he knocked again with no response.
Wondering why she isn’t answering, he slowly and quietly peaks the door open. He peers in through the door to see Arui’Kotamu looking at photos and videos on her computer. One video included two luvantek lying together as they watched their pups play, another showed a herd of Gareberia traveling and eating from the trees. As she scrolled through them, she stopped at a group of images that made tears fall from her eyes……..
These images showed different images of Arui’Kotamu with her family: playing with her little sisters, shopping with her mom and training with her dad. This was the world Arui’Kotamu knew…The world where everything was peaceful……...before it all came crashing because of the war, turning everything into death!!
Arui’Kotamu then puts her head on her arms and starts crying. Calem quietly closed the door before leaning against the wall. Seeing Arui’Kotamu in that state made Calem feel horrible for her. He then looked into his left hand with a look of determination on his face.
“I swear……..I will get stronger, Arui’Kotamu……...I’ll get stronger to protect others…….so that no one suffers that same fate you and I witnessed…….I’ll get stronger……...I swear it!” Calem said in his mind as he clenched his fist.
X 6 months later X
It has now been six months since Calem’s been on Arusatora and the training has made him a new man! The training has given him a new body with toned muscles. He’s able to hold his own against Arui’Kotamu in hand-to-hand combat and with plasma weapons, he’s able to lift weights more easily now and he’s much faster and agile than he was before.
We now venture outside where we see Calem running away from seven luvantek’s as Arui’Kotamu watched from the distance. Calem was able to outrun them until another Luvantek appeared in front of him. Just when it was about to jump onto him, he jumped up and landed on the luvantek’s head before jumping again, causing it to crash into its own members. He safely landed on the ground and kept on running.
Arui’Kotamu was impressed with the reflexes Calem had gained. Even though they were of different species, she was proud of how her student became stronger and agile.
Suddenly, Calem found himself surrounded by 15 of them, ready to eat him. Before they went in for the kill, lightning comes down on his left arm before slamming his fist into the ground, sending volts of lightning toward the luvantek, electrifying them. After smoking a bit, they quickly recovered and retreated as Calem stood victorious among them. He lets out a sigh of relief before he hears clapping from behind him. He looked behind him and saw Arui’Kotamu clapping as she walked toward him.
“Well done, Calem. Those were some nice reflexes you did.” Arui’Kotamu said.
“Thank you, Arui.” Calem said. “That new attack worked out perfectly.” Calem said, which caused Arui’Kotamu to smile.
“Calem…..These past six months, you’ve improved so much. When we first met, you weren’t strong enough to defend yourself, but now……..you’ve bested me in combat, you’ve learned new abilities with your gauntlet and you’ve been able to outrun luvantek. I just want to say…...I’m proud of you.” Arui’Kotamu said with a proud look and smile on her smile, to which Calem replied with a smile as well.
“Thanks. It was your training that got me here.” Calem said before Arui’Kotamu grabbed his hands.
“Come with me. I want to show you something.” Arui’Kotamu said as she started walking east as Calem followed her.
Unknown to them that in the sky in the far-off distance, a drone with ducted fans was spying on them. The drone was more focused on Calem as it zoomed in on him. With that, the drone turned around and fired a laser blast into the sky that formed into a portal that allowed the drone to enter.
X
We are now taken to an unknown planet with reddish skies and thunder clouds covering it. On the planet’s surface, there’s a massive castle resting on top of a mountain with tall towers and spires with smaller buildings surrounding it.
Inside the castle, we are taken to what appears to be a throne room. It had large stained glass windows, a throne with steps with two large robotic knights holding halberds guarding over it. Besides the throne was a shadowy humanoid figure who was staring through one of the windows with his arms behind his back. The humanoid had long horns, dark greenish armor, a shredded cape and a demonic red visor. The most strange thing about the humanoid was the red orb that seemed to be embedded into his chest.
Suddenly, a huge metal door opens as a dark giant that stood around 11ft tall enters right before kneeling before the humanoid.
“This better be good.” The humanoid said, still looking through the window.
“It is more than good news, my lord.” The giant said. “We’ve managed to find one of the three.” The giant said which causes the humanoid to turn his head, catching his interest.
“Is that so?” The humanoid said.
“Yes. Our drone’s managed to find him on a dead planet.” The giant said.
“Hmmm…...And what of the other two?” The humanoid said.
“Nothing yet, my lord. we're still searching.” The giant said.
“And….has he been able to unlock it yet?” The humanoid said.
“No, my lord.” The giant said, which caused the humanoid to chuckle.
“Good…” The humanoid said. “Send in two drone automatons after him. I want him dealt with as soon as possible.”
“It will be done, my lord.” The giant said.
“If he’s able to unlock it, it’ll be a big disturbance to my goal.” The humanoid said as he turned towards the giant, showing his red visor. “When they kill him…...Make sure they bring me his head!” The humanoid said with a sinister voice as he formed a fist…….

Viceroy's Pride
This story could be about the Tellask Empire, ruler of a thousand suns and faced with imminent peril at the hands of the Orakh hordes. It could be about Paltai Amberell, the scion of a noble elven House, fallen upon hard times and seeking to find the key that will restore his family's name and save the Empire itself. It could be the story of his voidship, The Viceroy's Pride, powered by magic and crewed by a team of crack marines as they search for adventure and the solution to the Empire's myriad problems. Instead, this is the story of Daniel Thrush, human electrical engineer, befuddled researcher and survivor of the debacle that was first contact with a spacefaring civilization. Due to a combination of luck, magic, hard work, and more luck he is thrust into the center of events as Earth is shoved onto a much larger stage rife with semi-immortal elves and magical kingdoms that predate the Earthly invention of agriculture. Earth is outnumbered, and we have precisely one wizard. Dan. He's not very good at it, but he's going to have to learn in a hurry or watch everything he knows get torn apart by massive spacefaring empires straight from the pages of a fantasy novel. ---------- Some readers have noted that the MC tends to be weak willed and pushed around a bit. A significant portion of the story is his character growth into not being a pushover (i.e. him being passive is in the early chapters on purpose). I'm just including this caveat/warning to make sure that readers aren't surprised/upset and that they stick with it until he learns to stand up for himself. His arc begins to crystallize around chapters 25-27. If that's too long to wait, I get it, I'm just trying to do my due diligence and warn you that the character development is a bit of a slow burn. This is NOT a harem novel. Nothing against them, just not what it is. --------- Updates Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday Feel free to bother me on our discord- Discord!
8 167Warden of Success - A LitRPG
In the future of Earth humans are no longer the dominant species. Monsters, vampires, elves and all manners of otherworldly threats now threaten the planet and its people. And for one such as Camille, there was nothing she could do. A failed martial artist, Camille swallowed her pride and dreams, all the while sinking into the world of video games. Until she died. Reawakening with newfound power in her very own bed, there's no doubting that she's an oddity. And as the only individual in the world with the body of a video game character, she's ecstatic. No longer will she just be content with playing games in her dark room, taking over fantasy worlds as a great heroine. Rather, she'll do something better. And that'll be to take over the real one instead. Whether it be mages, demons or other supernatural entities that stand in her way, it doesn't matter. Camille may be a level one at first, but dammit if she wasn't going to try to reach one hundred. This is not a crunchy LitRPG and gradually becomes more of a character driven story that just happens to have a main character with LitRPG abilities. There will be a variety of powers/abilities that are explored later in the setting involving magic systems and other technological advancements. The first 10 chapters were written with satirical undertones, but begin to develop more into its own entity after that.
