《Insanely Lucky》Chapter 1 - O Fortuna

Lady Luck had liked the idea of sapient life when she first heard about it. Beings that were capable of altering their own paths was a novel idea. It gave her another variable to play around with that broke up the monotony. And after eons of manipulating the universe; it was getting exceedingly monotonous. So she thought to her self "Fuck it! Why not?" And so she let the new upstart sapiens continue their stumbling about in their advancement in culture and sciences. For a time she watched these new species across countless planets start to explore their home worlds. It was... entertaining, cute even; akin to watching a gosling taking its first waddling steps after hatching. Much like geese, however, at a certain point these cute hatchlings known as sapiens grew up to be outright bastards. She started to notice Things happening on these..."Thinking planets", as she classified them. Small Things. SIMPLE Things. Things that are on their own or in part of certain organic life would be normal. Things like: having pets. No problem there; there are many non-sapien lives that keep another organism as a pet. Nothing special. Or, Social hierarchy. Again nothing new, a lot of species organize themselves in a rigid hierarchy. But, as the millenniums went by these innocuous Things started to take on a horrific twist. The idea of pets turned into the idea of slavery. The Social hierarchy turned into systemic prejudism. Even the simple territorial dispute turned into outright Genocide. This HAD to stop. This NEEDED to stop. As such, She tried. And for the most part, She failed. Now, one might wonder why a cosmic being with the power to manipulate the whole universe failed to halt the progress of civilization. It's a simple answer, really. Unlike most preconceived notions of Lady Luck, her power isn't as simple as pulling a trigger on a gun, or as "random" as pulling the lever on a slot machine. Her's was the power of a simple ball of snow rolling down a mountain. Of a patch of ice before a stop light. Of an asteroid being caught in the gravitational pull of a celestial body. Of a simple bolt not properly secured on a spaceship. In short she could "nudge" things into place. Using her cosmic level Rube Goldberg machines typically worked quite nicely in manipulating the going-ons of the universe. Unfortunately, by the time Lady Luck realized these cute sapiens were actually a cat turd in her sandbox; she had no grand scheme to effectively scoop the proverbial shit from it. With that being said, She did succeed in quite a few cases. Such as the CHi'ulapa in the Q'th'imp system, and their ultimate demise via 'Nudged" Black hole. Or the Polokos of the Leepin system and their "Accidental' Nuclear war. But still most of the sapiens in the universe survived her machinations. This is why after discovering that a certain bipedal terrestrial carnivore has started to show signs of sapience She immediately went into action to wipe the slate clean from that particular blue and green planet. And unlike before she succeeded....mostly. Sure she made that big green bipedal carnivore devolve into fucking poultry, but as an unintended by product she set the ground works for one of the most resilient, and cunning species in the universe todate... Fucking Humans.
