Chapter 19
Lily got up pretty damn early. It made me almost tell her to come back to bed but I could understand her desire to actually be self sustainable.
A little after 11 am, I got up and decided to head out for food. Embarrassingly, I couldn't sleep due to my stomach growling. I headed to the plaza to see that on a weekday, it was almost empty. That was odd as I would have usually waited in a line just to get some food.
But everything made sense as I carried my food to the office. Someone threw a protest and if I was correct, it was the wildest thing I ever heard.
"Protect the mages." "Mages' lives matter!"
So on with that stupid shit. I just released my aura and the crowd quieted down as I made my way towards the door. I only paused to look at the few mages with posters waving in the air.
Ask yourself, which gender is the most likely to protest? It didn't surprise me that I spotted Eleanor in the crowd either. The woman was young and passionate about saving the world. You could see that passion in her ability and desire to save people. Well, I couldn't respect her opinion.
I held up my food. It took three seconds for Miss Murphy to grab it and take it inside. I put on my big boy smile but my aura held such a thick killing intent that I was curious about how roasted imbeciles taste.
Alana opened her mouth but I held up my hand as I stepped up to the podium. I look out at the mundane, the mages, the young and dumb shifters, and I saw how the future of our nation would have panned out if the governor was allowed to thrive.
"Some days, I am like fuck waking up. Coming out of my house is a chore. I have to put up with a level of stupidness that leaves me traumatized. It puts me in a state of depression that I don't even think emos can achieve. Yet lately, I find myself in one of those tv dramas where people are lining up to be slaughtered."
The crowd murmured in confusion as I reached out and conjured a sword of golden red light.
"How dare you come to support child rapers in my fucking Valley!" I started walking towards the crowd. Sending sword beams into the crowd. It targeted every mage or shifter holding a poster on a stick.
Their blood covers the crowd. I knew before if they didn't understand what was about to happen. Now they did as they all turned and tried to flee but Jake and Edward teams were cutting down any evolver involved in this shit festival.
"Next time you wish to be led like sheep. Understand all the facts. My shifters all have mundane families. Kids, wives, brothers, or grandparents. This valley is our safe zone. Not a playground for sick bastards that prey upon their own kind." I spit on the ground as I turned away from these sick in the head imbeciles.
"You guys disgust me!" Edward shouted as he grabbed a mage who camouflaged himself in a group of regulars.
I looked at Alana who covered her mouth. "Next time, just kill the instigators, and any evolvers involved. We don't need cancer like this in our society."

"You know that kind of thing will lead to some golden knight wanting to slay a dragon." Miss Murphy said out of concern.

Yet, I don't think she realizes that I barely finished my food. Just the images flashing behind my eyelids stomp on my appetite. I turned my placid eyes to her and I knew I wasn't producing a friendly face. My fangs felt sharp to my tongue. Just the amount of fire in my body was causing me to look sickly.
"You know, my blade hasn't had its feel yet."
Miss Murphy frowned, "I am only saying that you didn't have to kill the teens too."
I put a finger on my lip as footsteps came towards my office.
My alphas flooded in and took available seats. Jake walked out and brought in chairs.
"I call this meeting because we now have the power to clear out the surrounding areas. Whether in technical aspects or personal strength." I pointed at the map on the big screen. "This is my projected estimate of how long it will take us and the price it will put on our resources"
Edward raised his hand, "are we going to push the mages outside of the village? Now that the inside is finished. We can afford to add onto the outside, right?"
"I had the idea of kicking them out but a lot of them are decent people and earned their place. Yet, if they want to leave that is good too." I said as I spun a fork in my hand.
Jade raised her hand, "what do we tell those parents who lost their child during that slaughter?"
Edward snorted, "they were seeking deaths. You did not see the state of those girls. It's honestly hard to go home and look at my own child without fearing some sick power hungry mage would do the same thing."
Jade closed her mouth and I moved on. "I will lead the clearing of this sector, sector one. I want Edward and Jake in two. The rest help out as they can. Or just put your heavy hitters under my control."
Tori raised her hand, "are we doing rescue operations?"
"The main objective is to clear out the prey. It's optional to do anything else. I just want to remind you, do gooders. Our city holds 2200 people and outside is another 700. We are producing enough produce to sustain 6000 people. That doesn't mean that is an accurate count of how many mouths we can feed. Not to mention that there are currently no more tents and no houses set up outside to handle anymore influx." I stated.
"What about some of the vacancies we have in the community?"
"Only shifters from now on. We are not taking anyone else."
Jade hand shot up, "this will cause unrest.."
"Okay, that is the plan. I'll send further details to your accounts. Just remember, heroes don't have graves. They only get pits and tears."
Everybody but jade left immediately. Jade walked over to me with her brows touching.
"I don't like this version of you." Jade started that save the world's bullshit.
"Jade. Sometimes I appreciate your silence more than your opinion." I walked past her and marched towards the lobby where I could hear fathers screaming at the poor office workers.
The moment they saw me, they quieted down. I look at these fathers and mothers of fools. How could they allow their precious children to run around starting drama just because they had freedom of speech. This isn't the American government, this is communist state. Like Putin, I don't tolerate imbeciles.
"Many of you are causing these innocent workers problems. Problems that they can't solve very well because you are being quite unreasonable." I only blinked and I saw the girls mutilated wrapped up in plastic. Sperm mixed with blood and organs.

My throat felt suddenly dry and my eyes felt moist. I used to think I was a hard motherfucker. My demons tell me that nothing can knock off my pride and ego. Nothing could cause my stomach to turn and my future to look grime. Yet, my mental health was at the breaking point.
Yeah, I got issues.
"I don't care what went through your heads when you heard your kids were killed in the streets like rabid dogs. I don't care that you are grieving. What I do know is that shit that can cause a killer, a sinner like me to want to seek God for comfort in his embrace…" I licked my dry lips. "There isn't anything to say more on this. If you have daughters who are still alive, go home, look at them and thank God above that you aren't going into the depths."
I turned and looked at the cloudy sky that was pure white without a trace of taint. "Ask your alphas why we commenced a slaughter. Then ask yourself, definitely those of you who have daughters from the age of four to fourteen, could you listen to these morons supporting such sickness?"
Shaking my head, I walked through the crowd. I paused while looking at some dragons among the crowd. They stared at me with pure hatred and I sneered.
Sometimes, you just have to let people know you can do what you can do. Even if their tiny brains are making it troublesome to see the truth of things.
Even if they call you evil, the filth of society. But they are only allowed to be smoking silver haze while living life in a disillusioned daze.
When I got through the crowd, a guy with golden hair and golden eyes stared at me. He had a large sword in his hand and his stern jawline told me he was here for business.
I sigh as I look up at the clouds and wonder when I could be as carefree. Instead I was burdened like the dark clouds rolling in. My fears were thicker than the rain drops that splattered on the concrete around me. My dreams of a peaceful future with my child were shattered by the sound of thunder.
I held out my hand and the drops turned into a puddle. I clenched my fist and let out a putrid breath of sin.
The sound of metal clashing as I bombarded this fool with thunderous strikes. My anger was so powerful that the rain froze wherever I walked. My sorrow was so strong that the lightning blinded the crowd everytime I swung my blade.
The golden eye man had his own techniques but they were weaker in terms of power output. It was like he was just competing with raw strength with no expert training with swords before.
I backed off as the guy dropped to his knees after I got tired of venting. The tendons in his knees were cut and if he was a shifter, he would recover in a few hours. If not, he will end up paralyzed.
"What made you want to challenge me with that level of skill?"
The golden eyed man looked at me with all the pride he had. "I was told that if I beat the alpha, I can take over. I didn't expect you to be so skilled."
I tapped his shoulder while looking at the son and wife, who very much looked like they wanted to come over. But was held back by four guys with another three with a hand on their assault rifle.
"What are you? Former navy or marines?"
"Navy seals."
"Who told you to challenge me?"
"Woman named Evie."
I turned back and looked at Evie whose face instantly turned pale. I smiled at her as I pulled out my phone.
"One of your cats just tried to run a coup."
Evelyn's confused voice sounded like she was building up to that super rage. "Who?" Followed by a shriek, "Evie?"
"You guess correctly."
"I killed that bitch!"
"Okay." I hung up and looked down at this poor fool. "How do you feel if this would have cost you your family?"
I dismissed my sword and walked away from him. His friends rushed over and carried him back to the car.
This was funny but not funny. I needed to be away from morons before I went on a massacre and ruined my reputation even worse.
***
Jessica was the first to get back home with the twins. She gave me an odd look as I had the backyard set up to receive guests. Several large butchered corpses hung near four grills.
"Do you want me to prepare something other than meat?"
I nodded and Jessica returned back inside. Humming to Adele, I poured myself another beer from the tap.
Not long after Lily pulled up did a bunch of dragon shifters. I could hear the confusion as they greeted each other and walked so unsteady to the back.
"I finished the contract and started on the indentured servant with my team." Cambria said as she dropped into the lawn chair.
She was looking so relaxed in big round sunglasses and loose t-shirt and shorts. I, honestly, never saw my lawyer in anything less than business casual.
"Did your wife leave you?" I asked as I flipped over a few patties.
Cambria nodded and I passed her my beer. "She apparently doesn't like the whole shifter culture but it is more about her being a mage. She doesn't look as young as I do even though her group has been researching aging cures. Plus I think her group lost their base so it made her even more toxic."
I couldn't help laughing. We weren't the only group around L.A. and definitely not the only successful group. Mages and warriors working together could produce the same standards as my group. Even better because the mages will be investing purely into themselves.
That didn't mean that every group was doing well food wise. I already caught some mercs roaming for food.
Plus gangs pop up to take over small areas. They can still use hot weapons to kill the smaller prey. The bigger prey all moved out towards the wilderness or were targeted by evolvers.
"So you are available, huh?" I wiggled my eyebrows and smirked. Her pussy was great and I don't know if it was due to the circumstances but I wanted a repeat.
"Didn't you drop other women for Lily?" Cambria said as she sipped on the honey ale like it was a martini or something.
"I said he can have three others. Otherwise, he would wear me out." Lily walked over in tights and gave me a hug and kiss. I almost felt like a normal couple for a second.
"I'm surprised that he allows you to dictate how many women he can sleep with." Cambria said as she studied lily before giving me a critical smirk.
"Well, I was honestly a little tired of everybody coming to me for a lay. Plus I like her body type so it's easy for me to devote myself to her if that's what she wants." I said to enlighten both women.
Cambria just laughed as she got up to refill my beer. Lily leaned her head against my back.
"What's the occasion for?"
"I decided to clean up a little." I checked the ribs.
"Did the mages piss you off that bad?"
"No, there are a lot of people wanting to create discord. So I am changing plans a little."
"Wait, are we expanding?"
I nodded, "yes. I think we can expand and create a city. Plus I don't want a lot of people gathering forces around us."
Lily grabbed my spatula and motioned for me to move aside. "Okay, I'll cover it."
I gave her another kiss and headed on over to the dragon clan. Honestly, they should not have awakened as dragons. Dragons had this overall savage kind of ruthlessness and majestic appearance. Between all of those before me, only this goldeneye guy had what it took to awaken a dragon spirit.
"Most of you are confused why you are here. So I will be quick. First reason is that before I did not see you as proper dragons thus felt you didn't need proper guidance. Yet, that mistake led to today and yesterday's fiasco." I caught a few looks of resentment as well as mumbles. "Second, we will have a gathering like this twice a month where you can pitch some of your major issues. As your Alpha and Dragon Emperor, I'll listen and consider if it needs a solution. Third reason is to prevent you from acting like a mundane human."
One of the mundane women folk with blonde hair stepped towards me with an aggressive posture. "What is wrong with acting mundane? Considering we make up more than sixty percent of the town."
I raised an eyebrow, "this is what I mean by acting like a mundane person. Not knowing your place when faced with a predator is a folly that I wish to squash." My body went through the transformation in a split second and I appeared before these guys in my battleform. Standing over ten feet with black scales fitting me like a skinsuit.
"We are no longer humans and this means that our lovers and children are at danger if they aren't a dragon. Understanding right away that there is a difference and working to prevent yourself from indirectly exhibiting superiority is the best way to prevent the mundane from making rash decisions that will disrupt our society."
The woman was dragged backwards by her husband as she opened her thin lips to say something else that might be even more foolish.
The golden-eyed lad raised his hand, "I apologize for the change of subject but can I ask what was the riot about earlier?"
I nodded, "I made the mistake of inviting mages in thinking they could be a valuable part of our society. Instead, when I went to do a training session, one of them used girls from the age of four to fourteen for all sorts of vile things. When I found out upon coming back, I cut them down in the cruelest manner I was capable of. Some clever mages riled the foolish among us to protest."
"That doesn't explain why you murdered our family!" Some coward said in the crowd.
"I killed them because they had posters to support these animals. You guys might have some kind of peaceful solution to that issue but I prefer to kill such trash who can't find out such public information. People like that who can't use their brains are not worth living in my world." I shrugged as I shifted back to my human.
The old group of dragons yet again split between those who had saved the world complex versus those who were more pragmatic. The golden-eyed lad looks like he agrees with my methods.
"Just because they were fed some misinformation, you killed them instead of taking the time to explain? Such…" this skinny lad who looked like a politician jumped back as a sword beam slammed into the ground at his feet.
"I think you misunderstood something. Supporting the enemy of a nation makes you a traitor. Supporting rapists makes you a potential rapist. There is only one outcome, death! This is not the government society, this is a real dragon society. I will only kill those who are vile." I looked at the rest of these dumbasses, well the six plus family.
"I am giving you the only choice you have. If you don't approve of my methods of leadership, speak now. We have a plane that will take you to the utopia you dream for."
Nobody said anything or made a move and I sighed. Bunch of pussies.
"In that case, let us move onto something more important." I glance at Tinashe and Jessica shuttling three tables out.
"A lot of you are basically freeloading. Sadly, the shifter care packages has come to an end. Now if you don't have a job inside, we will unfortunately have to employ you outside."
"How do we know what jobs are available?" The golden dragon asked as he grabbed his daughter's hand.
I clapped my hands, "that is easy. Right now, every type of shifter has enforcers but us dragons. We can easily form a team of at least ten with thirty-five of us here. I also need someone good with tech or a fast learner."
"My crew all have experience in the security sector. Kimiko is also an amazing computer geek." He waved at a small Japanese girl that had the second strongest dragon blood out of the group. She smelled absolutely delicious even if she had small assets.
I nodded and looked at the other group, well the male group who went with me before. A red head guy that was beefy and suntan raised his hand.
That schoolyard thing.
"Each of us who went with you to the dino world can work as an enforcer. That is 13 of us. Our wives and husband both work as researchers in a tech lab."
I gave him a thumbs up and looked at the smallest group of assholes. The woman from before looked at her group before speaking out.
"We don't want to fight but we have physicians and nurses among us. That has to count for something?"
Clapping my hand for the second time, 'that's great. Jordan, can you begin teaching these guys how to utilize their chi tomorrow?"
Jordan, the redhead, nodded his head. I move on.
"Great, after morning training, I will have you spread out and in a place where you are useful. Now let's eat." I motioned at the table where Jessica and Tinashe placed a bunch of dishes.

8 179The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.
