Chapter 85 - Arc 11 - The God/dess and the Mortal - Part 7
Just a little more than 30,000 years ago on a small planet called Smil, in the blazing summer of this planet, there was a tall and muscular man worked in green fields.
“This is going to take a while...”
The man with the white hair and red eyes looked across the green fields with a tired expression on his face.
“These fields are very good but… Definitely tiresome.”
He was holding a spade in his hand.
“Oi, Arias!”
From behind him, he heard a voice.
Turning around, he saw a small fairy floating in front of him. She was a beautiful fairy with blue hair and large pink eyes. The hazel and green wings flapped in the wind to keep her afloat.
“Why are you working in such hot weather?”
The man known as Arias smiled.
“What else can I do, Mira?”
“Go home. Rest. It’s very hot, you know? And as the protector of this land, I have to keep the people safe.”
She is Mira. A fairy that looks after this town.
Mira left her lands to visit the world. After many years, she came across this town and considered herself the protector of this town.
She did not rule over it but she just looked after the humans here.
“Well, it will be cloudy tomorrow, so you can work tomorrow.”
“Oh, really?”
She folded her small arms in front of her chest and puffed her cheeks as she nodded with a proud smile on her face.
“When I have ever been wrong?”
Mira tells them about the weather and informs them of any problems. She also informs them about unknown visitors who come to this town.
“You are not wrong, fair fairy.”
She hung her shoulders low.
“When will you drop that, Arias? It’s a horrible joke.”
“I will think about it.”
“Ah, yes. That’s right.”
Her depressed look was soon replaced by an energetic look.
“Guess what I found today?”
Arias started to pick up his tools.
“A coin!”
Arias looked at her blankly.
“It’s a golden coin,” she said excitedly as she showed him the golden magical coin, which she had trouble holding up in her hand.
“What?!” Arias shouted out excitedly. “You will be rich!”
“I know. But...”
A depressed look covered her excited look again.
“But we fairies don’t need to eat. We can also wear whatever clothes we want to wear using our powers. So, what am I going to do with it?”
“Well, you can always keep it safe. And then when you remember what you want to buy, use the coin then and buy it.”
An excited smile appeared on her face.
“You are so smart, Arias.”
“I know. I believe in my past life, I was the God of knowledge.”
“...”
She sighed.
“Sorry, sorry,” he said as he laughed.
Arias picked up his tools as he started to walk towards a small house near his fields.
Most of the town was full of fields. There were houses but very few.
“So, can you keep the coin for me until then?”
“Sure.”
The fairy sat on his shoulder.
“But don’t steal it.”
“I have the lands left to me from my parents. Most of these fields are mine. I can have hundreds of golden coins.”
"But not magical."
“A fair point.”
He turned his head around and looked at his fields before going to his house.

“I wish I had a relative who would help me with this.”
“Well, fairies can’t grant you wishes.”
“I thought so. You know...”
He looked down with a complex expression on his face.
“Sometimes I think I am the God of Wishes.”
"Huh?"
"I mean, I wish for some many things. Doesn't that makes me the God of Wishes?"
The fairy burst into laughter.
“Arias, you are the funniest. This is why I am always around you.”
“Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. I wish you weren’t a freeloader, at least.”
Entering the house, the fairy jumped off his shoulder.
“I am so thirsty.”
It was a two-storey building. On the ground floor, there was a kitchen and a living room. There was not a wall between them.
Next to the door was a stair to the first floor, where there were two different bedrooms and a bathroom.
“I thought you fairies did not need to drink or eat?”
“Well, yes… But I do like to both drink and eat. They are delicious.”
“Okay, freeloader. Wait a few moments and I will prepare---”
THUD!!
Suddenly, they heard a sound outside and walked out frantically.
Walking outside, they saw someone lying down in front of the house, unconscious.
“An...”
“Angel?”
It was a tall and muscular angel with long pink hair.
“How do you know it’s an angel, Arias?”
“Because of the white wings and halo.”
“Oh……… I knew that. I just wanted to test you.”
Arias picked up the angel’s body and carried her inside.
He took her to the bedroom upstairs and placed her on the bed.
He looked at the bloodied angel and cringed.
“Don’t look at her too closely. I know she is beautiful but keep your urges in control.”
Arias rolled his eyes.
“Change her clothes, will you? And I will prepare something to eat. And a bath so you can clean her.”
“Ahem. I am a fairy.”
“Sigh. I will cover my eyes and you help me. Is that fine?”
Mira nodded.
“Just don’t feel her too much.”
He went downstairs to warm water.
The fairy began taking off the angel’s clothes.
Arias brought up two buckets of lukewarm water to the bathroom.
“I wish I could carry her all the way to the doctor but that will take a long time. And by the time you get there, it will still be too late.”
“Yeah, sadly...”
Arias picked up a white cloth and covered his eyes.
“Okay, so walk straight.”
The fairy guided him.
He walked straight towards the bed slowly.
Picking her up, he took her to the bathroom and put her inside a stone tub.
“This is so hard to do without my eyes...” he said slowly.
“Ohohoho. What is this? You want to see her, don’t you?”
“Wah?!? N-no. Of c-c-course, not!”
“Heh.”
The fairy flew up and removed the cloth off his eyes.
“Wh-wha-what are you-- Oh...”
She had underwear on her, so he could wash her off without feeling awkward about it.
But deep down, he was somewhat disappointed.
“Of course.”
“Just because you have never seen a girl naked, doesn’t mean they don’t wear underwear.”
“I-I knew that, okay?!”
“Well, I don’t. So, I can see why you would be confused.”
“I have never seen you naked, either.”
“I know. But I have told you before.”
He washed her head and cleaned the blood off her body.
“Look, I did it without touching her sacred parts.”

He picked the angel and placed her on the bed again.
Arias went downstairs to prepare food while the fairy slowly put some clothes on her.
The fairy looked at her closely.
“She is so beautiful, Arias,” she said out loud while flapping her wings excitedly.
“Yes, I can see that.”
CLANG!
Something fell to the ground.
“Are you okay, Arias?”
“Yes.”
“Oh, that’s good.”
The fairy sat on the bed as she watched over the angel while Arias was preparing food.
After a while, “Uwah!!”
The fairy jumped back as she flapped her wings in a horrified manner.
“What is it, Mira?!”
Arias ran up frantically.
Entering the room, he saw the angel sitting up.
“Where…?”
The angel looked around her with her hazel eyes which were full of confusion and horror.
“Who-Whoever you are, please-- Get away from me. It’s for your own good. You will die--”
“Calm down… Angel. We are just trying to help.”
“I know that,” the angel said as she got off the bed. “Which is why I am worried. I don’t want to see innocent people die.”
“Thank you for your concern. But Arias is not innocent.”
“Wah?!”
“Hehe. I am joking.”
“Joking like that in front of the angel… I don’t want to die like this!!”
“I won’t kill you.”
Arias let out a sigh of relief.
“But someone else might. So, I need to go.”
“Right...”
The fairy went close to her.
“But first tell us your name, at least.”
“I am Esme. And I need to get going.”
“Okay, so I have made food. Please eat that before you go. You will need some energy.”
The angel known as Esme frowned.
“Do you have a death wish?”
“No, not exactly. But I always wanted to meet a higher form of being.”
“He believes he was a God in his past life. Pfft. What an idiot!”
Esme got up but she felt pain in her leg, so she sat down immediately.
“My ma used to say that a nice meal heals everything.”
Esme chuckled.
"That's silly."
Arias came close to her and picked her.
Carrying her downstairs, Esme looked at him blankly.
“If you think this will have my heart beating faster, you are wrong, mortal.”
“I-I-I AM NOT TRYING TO!!!!!”
The fairy on his shoulder and the angel in his arms giggled.
Sitting around a table, he put food on the plates.
The fairy sat on top of the table. Her plate was very small compared to the others.
“So, what have you cooked?!”
Hearing the excited scream of the fairy, Arias frowned.
The fairy jumped up excitedly and looked at the pot.
“It’s beeeeeeeeeeffffffffffffff steeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!”
“Shut up, freeloader!!”
They soon sat around and ate the beef stew.
The angel tried not to show it on her face, but the normality of this house made her feel a warmth she has never felt before.
This was her first time eating food.
Angels don’t need to eat or drink. Energy is all they need.
So, tasting this alien food made her happy.
The more she tasted of this alien food, the happier she got. And so, the expressions changed on her face.
She showed a happy expression.
She wondered, how long has it been since I have smiled like this? Full of happiness? Without a worry?
Esme did not have to look too deep down to find the answer.
It has been millions of years.
"This food is delicious♡!!!!"
For an instant, she forgot she was an angel.
For an instant, she forgot the trouble she is in at the moment.
"Haha, glad you liked it."
"Her leg is not healed, Arias. You lied to her."
"I didn't! It's something my ma used to say. So… she is the one who lied?"
Mira laughed.
"Well, at least she is enjoying the food."
Mira looked at Arias with a bitter look on her face.
"Even though this is just an average stew."
Arias frowned as Mira laughed once more.
Esme gulped down the food like a small child with a happy expression on her face.
Once they finished eating, Arias asked a question.
"If you don't mind me asking…"
Seeing the serious look in his eyes, she became confused.
"Are you really an angel?"
"....Yes?"
"So, how did you get hurt?"
"I have heard tales of how powerful the angels are," Mira added as she tried to recall the tale she had read a long time ago.
"I am very powerful. I am considered one of the most powerful angels…"
She looked down in a depressed manner.
"Which is why I am going to be killed."
Both Mira and Arias's shoulders jerked in horror.
"Wh-what are you…?”
“To stop my brother’s reign of terror… Or as I am told, I need to die.”
“Your brother… I thought angels…?”
“It’s a long story. Most angels are mass-produced soldiers but a few of us created by the Supreme One. We are his children. And my brother is gone mad according to my father. And I have to die in order to defeat him.”
Arias and Mira exchanged glances.
“That doesn’t make sense.”
“My father is the creator of everything. So, nothing ever does.”
“Oh...”
“Oh...”
The fairy flew back and hid behind Arias.
“Um...”
Esme noticed the fear in Mira’s eyes and so she thought of how to get back her trust.
“I am a good angel?”
“Arias...”
He sighed heavily.
“Stop with the hostility. She is our guest.”
Arias looked closely at Esme.
“So, how did you get hurt?”
Esme looked at her leg and it was still not healed.
“My father… He hurt me. Just his way of showing his superiority, I think.”
“I feel bad for you,” Mira said as she flew closer to Esme. “Who would do such horrible things?”
“As I said, he is weird.”
“Why does he not defeat your brother? Is he not… God?”
Esme looked down.
“We are just soldiers. Following orders but for the first time, I disobeyed my father… My maker. I don't want to die.”
"Then we will protect you. Right, Arias?"
Arias lowered his gaze.
Esme smiled gently at Mira.
"That's a very nice thought but futile. The angels will be here soon to take me."
"But until then, stay with us, will you?"
"I need to go to a place where there are no people. I think... I think it will be for the better."
"If they are as powerful as you say, wouldn't they use us either way?" Arias said seriously. "Or worse, kill us?"
"I don't think they would use someone liked you as a shield."
"That is true," Mira said as she scratched her chin. "But please stay with us. I have so many questions. I want to hear your story."
"As I said--"
"Yeah, we know," Arias said as he smiled. "But is there anything greater than knowing an angel?"
"We want to know about the rest of the universe. And more. Please?"
Seeing the stars in their eyes, she sighed.
"Fine. But I will leave as soon as they appear."
Though she said that but weeks passed. Then months and the angels did not appear.
Esme, to not feel like a certain freeloader, started helping Arias in the fields. It was winter now but they could still grow crops.
"Brr. It's cold," Mira who was covered in a small blanket and sitting on top of Arias's shoulders shuddered.
Esme laughed while Arias frowned.
"Listen here, you freeloader--"
"Ahhh. It snowed. This is my first time seeing real snow. I always admired it from Heaven but seeing it in person…"
Her mouth was wide open from happiness. She couldn't contain this happiness which she couldn't explain.
Ever since she came to this world, she has forgotten about her life as an angel and lived as normal as she could.
"You didn't even warn us about the snow!!"
The fairy on his shoulder averted her gaze as she snickered.
"She told me not to anymore."
"You are gonna listen to her and not me?!"
"She gives me food more often."
He hung his shoulders low as he sighed the heaviest sigh of his life (so far).
"Let's get going before we catch a cold."
"What? No."
He did not know why Esme was so against the idea of going home.
"Stay here. Let's look at these beautiful snow. Please?"
Arias wanted to say no but the fairy on his shoulder spoke first.
"Okay!"
He looked at the fairy on reflex.
"Come on, a beautiful girl like her is asking you to spend some time with her. This is your chance☆."
The fairy winked at him, so he looked at Esme.
For some time now, he noticed how beautiful she was. He noticed how nice she was.
They spent months here. They laughed together. Ate together. And worked on the fields.
"She is like your newly wedded bride," the fairy whispered in his ear.
"Urk!!"
He took back what he was thinking about earlier.
The constant teasing from the fairy was not worth it. At least on the surface.
"Haha, that always gets you."
The fairy laughed as if there was no tomorrow.
The angel danced in the falling snow as if this was heaven. A beautiful and peaceful place.
The snow fell faster and faster as it got darker. So, Esme used her magic and created light for them.
Arias wanted to go to the warmth of his home but the angel and the fairy insisted otherwise.
Soon, he was engulfed in happiness too.
Look at the white snow he has seen for years, he had a thought. This year is different.
He glanced at the fairy on his shoulders.
She has been with him for years but ever since Esme came here, her smiles have gotten sweeter and brighter.
So, he let go of his worries and smiled.
Smiling widely, he played in the snow with them.
His smile has gotten brighter and sweeter too.
As they were playing in the snow, he blurted something out of his mouth which he will regret for the rest of his life.
"I love you."
The angel stopped in her place.
"Oh, no…. I-I am sorry… I didn't mean it. I prom--"
"I know."
His eyes widened as the angel still smiled.
"I have known for a long time now."
She came closer to him.
"In fact, I feel…"
Kissing him on the lips, all of his worries washed away. He was no longer tired. This will be his happiest moment ever. This will always be the greatest moment in his short mortal life.
They were not the only ones who were laughing and smiling.
In Heaven, a being made of white energy laughed sinisterly.
With just a twitch of his finger, dozens of angels descended to this planet.
Near them, the soldiers of God landed with enough force that could turn this planet into ash.
Esme moved her face away from Arias, who was still very much confused about this situation - while also very happy.
"Come back, Esme."
Hearing the sinister words of a prideful angel, she looked at the mortals beside her.
Two of the angels were eyeing them, so two wings shot out of Esme's back.
As a white halo appeared above her head, she shot herself towards God's soldiers.
"Well then…"
The angel before her, Anaiel, the Angel of Pride narrowed her eyes as she prepared to attack.
"Prepare for your death, Angel of Life!"

Dungeon Scholar
Girl meets dungeon. What could go right? A story of a good-hearted Scholar driven by her compassion and curiosity. She might be a little combat averse, but um, isn't that only logical? Love me a good grimdark, but sometimes I want to read feel-good fiction that isn't pure action, romance, or comedy. The plot and characters of Dungeon Scholar won't be all happy and fluffy, and the world will be more dungeons and monsters than rainbows and puppies, but overall the sweet moments should overshadow the bitter. Let's say three dollops of sugar for every pinch of salt, with lemon slices left on the saucers? Enjoy. Note: This is NOT a typical dungeon story. If you are here for the dungeon aspect, then fair warning this will seem incredibly slow-burn to you. The dungeon will eventually become the most important 'character,' arguably, or the second-most important narratively, but you might jump out the window in frustration long before that happens. At its heart, the story's core remains 'girl meets dungeon,' not 'dungeon meets world.' (To be clear, this does or will have a plot! It's just the more conventional story-like elements contribute to Rowena Loress's greater story, not the other way around; no conflict takes center stage until it becomes personally significant to her. Meanwhile, have some Slice of Life.) Updates every Friday Cover made using Waifulabs Written using 4thewords (referral code: UZJRY55368)
